LILY | Malaysia | Chloe Ash
My new year’s beauty resolution is simple. Enjoy quality things, and try to make a dent in some makeup. As for skincare, stick to the tried and true. For body, I need to drink more water, eat better and be consistent in my workouts. That’s it! Happy New Year everyone. Here’s to a great start and a fantastic 2016.

RAE | Canada | the Notice: a beauty blog
My beauty resolution for 2016 is to get back into indie beauty! I feel like I’ve really drifted from my small company roots, and I’d love to start using more offbeat brands again. Whether that’s mom & pop shops or just more unique finds, I’m hoping to try more obscure products this year.

ANGELA | Canada | Do Want Makeup
First, working on the inside: drink more water to hydrate myself from the inside out, and get more sleep at a regular schedule! Other than that, I want to continue my Fashion Week-inspired nail art and do even more nail looks than I did last year. I also want to buy less product, and spend more time exploring and re-discovering my current stash and creating new looks with them.

AGATA | USA | Her and Makeup
My beauty resolution is the same every year- to limit my makeup purchases and start using more of what I already have! This year it’s the same. I am actually proud of myself for how well I did in the second part of last year and I discovered that shopping my own makeup stash can be fun too and I have been using more products that I completely forgot about.

ANNE | Germany | Linda, Libra, Loca
My only new years beauty resolution is actually an old one: Use more of the stuff I already own and buy less new things!

I have been doing pretty well at not buying too much throughout the last two years, but finishing a makeup product other than the usual suspects (Concealer, powder, mascara) is still a struggle.

To help me with this resolution (and mentioned here for shameless self promotion) I started a You Tube channel to create more makeup looks that are out of my comfort zone!

Who knows, before 2016 is gone I could have finished a green eyeshadow!

ERIN | USA | Clever Girl Reviews
1. Make my way through my lipstick stash
2. Make a dent in my perfume stash
3. Only buy things I’ve sampled or am willing to or able to return, which will be incredibly hard!
4. Buy quality over quantity!
5. Do something with my huge mop of hair. It’s been two years since I’ve had a haircut or color!

MELISSA | Switzerland | Kiss & Make-up
This year I’d like to use more masks – sheet masks in particular – and get more into K-beauty and Asian beauty in general. And since I’ll be spending five whole weeks in Japan soon I also plan on putting a little Japanese twist on the blog and my beauty routine.

JAA | Thailand | Hello Jaa
Like everyone else, I also want to limit my spending on beauty products this year! I’ve noticed my interest shifting from makeup to skincare during the past 4-5 months so I’ll probably get into more skincare products now. I have come to realize that I have so much makeup in my stash so I’ll try to use what I already have and hopefully I’ll finish some of them this year. As for new stuff, I’ll still be buying but it won’t be from every new collection that comes out. I’ll definitely be more picky this year. Just like Erin said, quality over quantity! 🙂

    • Most people get it wrong until they either read the „About me“ or one of these. But I don’t mind being called Linda, I can see where it comes from.

  • I’m with most of you, use more, buy less. Ha! We will see if that eventuates lols.

    • Yes, making the resolution is way easier than actually sticking to it…

  • Your resolution is one that I’ve been trying to keep up for a while now!

    • Yes, it has been sticking with me for more than two years. Not with too much success, I am afraid.

  • I couldn’t agree more, I believe I’ve never used up anything else than a mascara, or a complexion and brow product so I hope I don’t buy too much makeup this year !

    • I went through my stash on Friday and realized that I own two lipsticks that I can probably finish this season, so I will try and focus!

  • My resolutions are to try more bolder makeup x

Such a nice post! You ladies have some great resolutions,I wish you all the best at accomplishing your goals!

    • Thank you. It is harder than it should be finishing makeup…

  • MaysaAndSunshine.blogspot.com

I love your beauty resolution. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to finish the makeup products. I think the marketers want people to buy new products all the time by saying replacing your makeup items every ××× month for hygienic purpose. I am not a beauty blogger yet I never really use up my makeup since I rarely put makeup on except for the powder. I like how you find ways to use existing makeup items to create new looks.

    • Yes, I don’t really tend to stick to expiration dates, I use my stuff until it smells/looks weird or changes texture. I really don’t understand how a face powder should turn bad anyway.

  • Love this post idea! A beauty resolution for me would definitely be to experiment more! Thanks for sharing! x

    • What do you want to go for more, Bold eyes or bold lips?

      • Bold lips for sure! I’m not really afraid to put on a lot of eye makeup as I like my eyes as a feature. But lips.. I don’t know, I’ve always been kind of afraid to go bold as I’m not sure I want to draw attention to them haha

        • I used to be that way too, because my lips are quit thin. But then I thought: Why bother? And I have been loving red lips ever since.

  • Noortje Wijckmans

This was such a lovely post to read. I should definitely buy less makeup, first use up what I still have (because I have way too much!!)
Project NW | Newtrals vs Neutrals Palette Review

    • Ah, how much is too much? I don’t think it is that bad having a variety of stuff, and my husband thinks it is exaggerated to own more than one lipstick, so I guess the truth is somewhere in between.

  • Love these resolutions! Such an amazing post!

  • So many great resolutions from some fab bloggers. I especially like yours, I’m also about using up what I’ve got before I buy more products. I look forward to the makeup looks you create on your YouTube channel 🙂 x

    Beauty with charm

    • If it only weren’t so hard! I am good at finishing skincare, but makeup? Rarely.

  • Great resolutions Anne! I’d like to see you finish that green eyeshadow.. 🙂
    Becca | theBeautyInbox

  • I’m surprised how many are determined to shop their stash but I think it’s a major problem with us beauty bloggers. We have too much and at one point it will start to get out of hand so we start to realize that we need to do something about it. I’m planning to stick to what I know too; the oldies but the goodies. Honestly I couldn’t be arse with trying to catch up with all the new releases anymore, it’s like a never-ending story.

    Shireen | Reflection of Sanity

    • It is, and after you have seen so many of them you realize that there is hardly anything really new in terms of texture or color. But the (very serious) question is: If I don’t reward myself with food for the sake of eating healthy, and don’t reward myself with a new lipstick, what am I going to do?

      • Haha! The struggle is real! 😛

  • Olivia Aimes

Awesome resolutions! I think it’s great to set goals at the beginning of the year xo

    http://fridaynightstyle.com/

    • That one has been my goal for more than two years now, and I have seen improvement in the skincare stash already. Now it is time to be more consistent when it comes to makeup I guess.

  • I relate to Erin’s resolution to get through her lipstick stash lol.

My own resolution is to focus more on skincare.

    http://themakeuptrain.com

  • It was cool to read everyone’s resolutions. My resolution is similar to your’s. I recently purged my collection and I’m keeping it minimal with my makeup especially. There’s really no point in having a million blushes if I keep reaching for the same two anyway so I’m limiting my collection to things I will use regularly and not be tempted to buy so many new products.

    • Sounds very sensible. I hope I will get better at that, I am pretty good when it comes to skincare and manage to finish quite a lot of stuff, but makeup? Very difficult.

  • It was fun reading everyone’s resolutions. Mine definitely would be to hit pan on more eyeshadows and blushes.

    • There are only two eyeshadows I have ever hit pan on, so I better focus on that, too. I need to use up some of my neutrals!

  • I loved reading through everyone’s resolutions 🙂 One of my big one this year is to only purchase what I need! I have way too many products!

    • Need is such a versatile word, but I get where you are coming from. i don’t want my stuff to sit unopened in my drawer for the longest time, it is just wasting your money.

  • Taking more care of my body not just face. Eating well and using up my products before buying new ones. Im such a hoarder and impulse buyer!

  • Great tips and resolutions!

Hast Du schon was in der Pipeline?

  • Great resolution! I’ll be checking out your Youtube channel then 🙂 Oh, it’s so cool to see you on video!!

    • You’ve got really gorgeous blue eyes, Anne!

      • Thank you, but it is the lighting that makes them that color. On overcast days like today they are grey-green, only the sun brings out the blue. Or orange eyeshadow.

  • Haha, I do absolutely the same like you! Almost never finish a product right till it’s empty. Well, it happens, ofc, but the product must have been really nice and maybe expensive/rare to find. It’s nice that you started a video channel, but that also requires buying lots of new stuff.

Sun and Sany – Bulgarian Travel and Leisure Blog

    • No, not really. The camera I own is capable of filming, and other than that I didn’t need anything else. Mr. Loca got me a microphone for Christmas so I could record voiceovers and the first thing I actually filmed was an „Empties“ video, to keep me motivated to finish more stuff!

      • I actually meant the products. It’s clear that buying a camera and a mic once is enough :D:

        • I don’t think so. I do makeup looks (yes, you´d most likely be bored to death) like I do here and I talk about skincare routines and stuff. It is more an extension of the blog than something completely new, so I use the same stuff I´d use on here.

  • I like how we all have similar resolutions! Being on a budget definitely helps me with keeping mine under control!

Stella from a Looks & Travels

    • Exciting. What will you focus on first, eyes or lips?

      • I think eyes. Need to experiment with palettes and colour combinations.

  • Great post! My resolutions for beauty relates to living consciously, so I’ll be looking at organic and cruelty-free products more 🙂

    Pop over to my blog!

    Sarah
    sarahinks.co.uk

    • You should check out Erins blog then, she is adamant about choosing cruelty-free skincare. Tell her I say hi if you stop by.

  • Just like everyone else, I want to limit my purchases and use my existing stash more. I’m not going to put myself on a complete spending ban, because that would be too unrealistic. Makeup is my passion after all and I think it’s actually good to reward yourself with something you really like from time to time, even if it’s not a basic necessity!
Nowadays, when I see something I’d like to get, I try not to buy it immediately and wait a few weeks/months. If I still want it then, I’ll purchase it, but most of the time the urge to buy it has gone. I think it’s working pretty well at reducing my expenses!
    http://carolinapage.eu

    • That sounds like a sensible approach. A complete spending bay really is unrealistic, but it helps to rethink before you buy. like: Do I really need another red lip crayon?

  • Nataliya Ogle

Oohh I love this! I’m with a lot of these bloggers: I need to make my way through various makeup stashes. Before I get more items.

Gyudy @ Gyudy’s Notes Of Beauty

    • I was amazed how much „new“ stuff I rediscovered when shopping my stash. So many great things gathered dust there.

  • Hollie

I love this! I agree with most of these, my biggest resolution is expand my makeup knowledge and do more weddings and events, and also blog a lot more often 🙂
    http://www.makeupbyhcblog.com

  • I have a few, but the biggest one for me is to be thoughtful in how I spend my money. I want to buy products because I will use them, not just because their trendy, or because I have money to spend.

    Kristi | Be Loverly

    • That is a good point. I want to be really sure that I will use the things I already own as well, after all they were bought with all intention and the feeling of needing them, so they should get some love!

  • I want to limit my purchases, or let’s put it this way… I want to stop buying useless makeup stuff that I won’t ever use, I just get them because they look pretty. Other than that, I want to experiment different makeup looks which are out of my comfort zone too.

    Ela BellaWorld

    • Will you be sharing your experiments on the blog? I would love to see your face more often!

  • I want to learn how to properly use certain make up items. And I want to feel confident with make up on. I sometimes find myself feeling better with no makeup on because I’m nervous to know if I did a good job or not. I just want to expand my knowledge – buy what I truly need and want as opposed to what’s „in“. There are alot of things I just want to try. Maybe, try bold looks. Different eyeshadows, different lipsticks. And not stick to the same look over and over again.

I love this type of post, it really helps seeing the opinion of different people on the same matter. Thank you as per usual. Your posts are always something I look forward to. And look up to.

    Ella Pinto xx

    • Makeup should be fun, and you will be amazed how many things you discover that you would never have thought you´d like in the first place when you start to experiment.
I have strayed from my usual neutral smokey eye, neutral blush, toned down red lip only after I started the „inspired by“ series and actually had a reason to apply the greens and blues I had bought because they were pretty. Of course, there have been many misses among my looks, but to learn what doesn’t suit you at all is equally important.

  • I’m not sure how you are going to work through that stash of items in the closet. It’s a lot!

    • I will try, one item at a time. I have already created space in my skincare cabinet, it is mostly the makeup collection that refuses to shrink.

  • Adalias C

Im actually trying to grow my make up collection, I guess thats just the hoarder in me aha xx

    http://www.adaliascloset.blogspot.co.uk

    • I have been growing mine for about six years now, there is a limit to any amount of hoarding in the end.

  • I need to start buying less too and use up the products I already have 🙂 I can go crazy sometimes for new products and that’s not very good for my pocket.

    -Leta | The Nerdy Me

    • I feel you, my expenses for beauty stuff are ridiculous. Even if you buy drugstore, it all adds up in the end.

  • Making a dent it mine as well! Stop buying so much before I use what I have!! I loved these resolutions! Best of luck with them! I know I’m already struggling with mine haha!

    Shannon Sage

    • Me too. Someone told me today that there is still the possibility to grab one of the Hourglass palettes…

  • Looks like a lot of people want to use up some products! I’m the same, despite buying so much I’d love to make a dent in my stash this year x

    alicered.co.uk

    • I want to buy more mindful, my collection of red lipsticks is overwhelming. And yes, they all have a slightly different finish and maybe color, but truth be told they look pretty similar on the lips.

  • Rakel

    Oh! Great post 🙂 http://www.alovelystyle.com/

  • Wow, I love the new blog layout Anne. Very nice! As for resolutions…I don’t have any because I never stick to them anyway 😉

    • Haha, i dont do them as New Years Resolutions specifically either, that was just the post title. That goal has been sticking with me for more than two years now and I have been making progress!

  • I love these resolutions. Short and sweet but still very inspiring. Good luck and happy New Year!

Great resolutions! I’d like to start wearing more bold lipsticks (actually started this) and try to find a good concealer and foundation that won’t irritate my skin.

    • Oh, which lipstick shades did you choose?

      • thefashionsalt

Mac in Brave Red and Nars in Heat Wave. I really like the Mac because I can blot it down to a not so bold colour. The Nars is still a bit bright, though I love it with some outfits. I feel like my face needed a little something more in my old age, haha.

  • Great post love! Perfect start to the year.

  • Nadia

Great post & such amazing ladies! Really enjoyed reading about each and every one’s resolutions when it comes to beauty & makeup. I definitely agree with one of them most of all and will be doing that myself – use what I have, finish it & buy less 🙂

  • I drink a good amount of water throughout the day, but definitely need to up my intake. That is my goal.

Angie | Chocolate & Lipstick | Beauty, Fashion & Lifestyle Blog

  • Mine would be to drink more water, try to sleep better and make a more conscious move towards more natural products. I normally gravitate towards them anyway, but I am becoming a bit more savvy about ingredients and paying more attention to the labels!

    Inma x

    • I firmly believe in my chemicals for certain things, but I enjoy exploring natural and organic brands as well. It is great that there is so much choice these days.

  • Your resolution is dead on & honestly one I need to apply to my closet! Simple & minimal is seriously the way to live. I think I will have to add it to your list. Look forward to seeing your YouTube channel grow! You have the best product reviews! xx SS

    http://champagneatshannons.com

    • Thank you, Shannon. My closet is pretty minimal already, but that s down to the fact that it isn’t fun to shop for clothes when you are either growing while pregnant or struggling to get back into shape, only to fall pregnant again. And at this point of belly growth barely anything looks halfway decent on me anyway.
