As frivolous as it gets these days – L´Oréal Super Liner in Extra Black Gloss

I still remember the first time I went to see a Burlesque Show.
It was in Hamburg, famous for his Red-Light-District, and I was attending a congress with Mr. Loca. We only had been going steady for two months, and were still getting used to each others quirks, so sharing a hotel room and spending the whole four days together was quite a thing.

To keep us busy (apart from the congress of course, which we skipped for sleeping in and eating out quite a bit), we had decided to plan the evenings alternatingly, and this had been my choice.

The dancers were awesome and really funny, the makeup and costumes splendid and the music right up my street.
But while I stood there, enjoying myself, I couldn’t help but notice that Mr. Loca wasn’t. In fact, he was staring at the ceiling or the floor most of the time, looking incredibly bored.

We left quite early, and it took me quite some time to figure out what had been the issue:
He was afraid I would end up being jealous and was trying to test him by taking him there.

Safe to say, he has lost this fear along the way.

L´Oréal Super Liner in Extra Black Gloss

Although I am far from being a Burlesque Dancer, I do love my black liner, and wear it almost every day.
Channeling my inner Dita, I guess.

And while I have been a pencil girl all through my teenage years, I turned to gels and liquids when my unhealthy makeup obsession started.

Meet L´Oréal Paris Super Liner in Extra Black Gloss, giving me wings every day!

What L´Oréal claims:
Ultra-Lasting, Precision Tip Eyeliner. Lasts without smudging or flaking all day long.

Facts:
You can buy this eyeliner in drugstores or online (here), retailing for around 10 €.
Inside are 2 ml of product, which may not sound much, but lasts a long time.
I usually replace mine after 8-9 months, when it starts getting dryer.

L´Oréal Super Liner in Extra Black Gloss, the tip

The tip is a felt tip, a little longer than the average one, but still stiff and not overly bendy.
There is no noticeable smell to the product, and I can’t seem to find a full ingredient list.

It needs shaking before application and applies full coverage in one swipe, drying down very quickly and lasting all day.

One swipe each, one thin and one thicker line

That is, a normal day with maybe rain and some working out. It will survive this without problems.
If you go into a full-on crying session on the other hand, it will come off in several places, especially when rubbing your eyes.

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes.
You can’t ask your eyeliner to keep up with your crying sessions. Or your husband, but he is not being reviewed here.

Will I rebuy?
Yes.
I will and I have.

Who do I recommend it to?

Anyone.
Unless you don’t wear black liner, of course. But it would be a good reason to start.
Your turn:
Do you do liner?
Or – even better – do you do Burlesque?

  • I love your little story! I have never seen a Burlesque show myself but I think it'd be fun to see at least once, for the experience!

I have never tried this L'Oreal liner but it sounds a lot like my favorite Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. Kat's is a little more glossy and it actually survives through tears without a problem!

wow. this looks like a great liner. may I should give it a try once the one I currently use is empty

  • It looks and sounds great! I am loving the tip as well… would love to try it out. I've never been to a Burlesque show before btw.. sounds like fun! Funny reaction from your husband though lol 🙂

  • Great review! I've been meaning to get this for quite a while, now got reminded that it's finally time to!

  • Beautiful liner! I usually go for gel liners or liquid ones with a brush tip. I should give a felt tip liner another chance because this looks great!

  • I'm rubbish at wings.. maybe this is the answer to my liner needs!

  • Hahaha that's a cute story! I've never been to a Burlesque show but it sounds like fun 🙂

Sooo I love liner, but I am not that good at using liquid liners. This for example, is something I wouldn't know how to work with like at all!

  • I haven't rock a black liquid liner look for ages. I am wearing natural brown liner recently. But, this post makes me want to try the look again! I think the long felt tip makes it easier to apply both thin and thick lines. Great review!
Fun story at the beginning btw, a burlesque show sounds fun!

  • I go through phases, sometimes I like the crisp, black line, sometimes I prefer soft smudged pencil. But I find soft and smudged makes me look more tired, so a crisp black line is the way to go at the moment.
Do you emphasize your eyes or your lips in your looks?

  • It is pretty easy, you can use it like a pen. I was drawn to these over gel liners because I figured I am way better at writing than I am at painting small details with a brush…
Do you use pencils most of the time?

  • Have you tried the adhesive tape trick? It makes wings so easy!

  • I use those, too, but when i am in a hurry, nothing beats a felt tip liner. It is hard to go wrong with this one.
Do you wear liner every day?

  • You really can't go wrong at this price. Which liners have been your favorite so far?

  • My eyeliner of choice is gel! Pencils usually don't allow a more or less precise wing.

  • Yes, I was a little concerned at the time, too. Who wants a husband that feels uncomfortable around women getting undressed? Looking back it is quite a laugh.
Burlesque is fun. The dancers are wearing 50ies makeup and there is a lot of irony and hidden meaning, it isn't (only) about getting undressed.

  • What are you currently using? And would you recommend it?

  • I have yet to find a liner that survives my big crying sessions, maybe Kat von D would do the trick.
But… you may have guessed it … It isn't available here.

  • That is my issue with pencils, too. I only wear them when I go for a smudged look, and as that makes me look tired, I try to avoid it recently…

  • Ha no.. would probably pull off half my eyelashes with tape! But might give it a shot 🙂

  • Just be sure to google it first. I don't want you coming back here accusing me of being guilty of you waxing off your lashes 😉

  • Oh I would love to check this out! Thank you so much for such a great review on a great product 🙂

  • Bahaha that story was too funny!! Mr.Loca sure was polite lol. I USED to be a big fan of liquid black liner but for the past 2 years or so find myself less fond of it and not liking it as much as brown but I do appreciate a nice fine tip on my liners! thanks for sharing 🙂

  • I have never been to a burlesque show before but I would love to one day. That is sweet that your man was worried that you would be jealous! That eyeliner looks great, so nice and dark! I will have to try it!

They sure do give us wings everyday. Great story about Mr Loca. I enjoyed it. I love liners and use them often. Liquid liners give great precision so I tend to lean towards them. Have a great week. http://fashionablyidu.blogspot.com/

I've actually tried this liner before. It was great the first few uses than after, the consistency was quite flaky on my lids. Glad it worked for you though!

  • lol… You made me giggle 🙂 Sounds like a pretty fab eyeliner! I'm still more of a kohl girl though.

  • Am on such a L'Oreal buzz! I bought this when it launched and loved it, but moved onto the slim one now. It's so handy, I'm doing flicks much more often.

  • I knew you were going to say it's not available in Germany. They recently added a brown Tattoo Liner but I haven't got it yet (but I am sure I will). I wish it came in navy blue- it's supposed to look good on anyone.

  • I sometimes feel all the good stuff isn't available here, but of course that isn't true. Can be frustrating at times, though.

  • No, I don't. I tend to do liner a lot more in the winter 🙂

  • I like to emphasize my lips with a pop of color, and keep my eyes simple.

  • I definitely think that I need to try this! Right now I am using the L'Oreal Infallible one and I absolutely love it, so I will look for this when I run out! Great review, x !

  • I never used o do that and put the main focus on the eyes, but that has changed throughout the last year.

  • I feel naked if I don't wear any kind of liner. y eyes look more tired, or at least I think this is what they look like.

  • That looks super black! I love felt tip liners, and its awesome that the drugstore ones live up to their claims. I don't Burlesque but I certainly love my black liner!!

  • I don't do Burlesque and I've never seen a show. I visited Hamburg when I was 12, and the Red Light district left a lasting impression on me. I had never seen anything like that before!

I'm still looking for an affordable, good felt-tip black liner. It doesn't look like this particular L'Oreal one is available in the US, but I want to try their Infallible Super Slim Liner.

  • I love thin lines the most! I have a similar one too and never going back!

  • It really is.

  • I would love to do it myself, but I don't think I would dare dance in front of so many people…

What is the Tarte liner called?

  • What is the one you use called?

  • You do travel quite a bit, don't you?
The Red-Light-District impressed me even when I went there aged 22. I love Hamburg, it is a beautiful city.

  • Thank god you don't have to strip naked in front of other people to rock that black liner…

I have to admit, I have never tried a high end liner. Have you?

  • It definitely is fun, and it is about costumes and laughter more than about naked skin, so you can safely take your husband there.

I wear liner every day, too. Along with mascara and concealer it makes up my minimal makeup for days when I just can't be bothered. My eyes look so tired without it!

  • Thank you so much for stopping by.
Are you satisfied with the L´Oréal Infallible one?

  • I´ll have to go check out that slim one then.
L´Oréal do some great products for a great price. Which other products do you currently love?

  • You are welcome.

  • Do you wear eyeliner regularly?

  • Brown looks much softer on the eyes, but at the moment I prefer the crisp definition a black line gives me. But preferences change over time.
What kind of makeup do you wear for a tournament?

  • Your outfit post looked like you were into that clothing style, so I figured you might have actually seen a show.
That eyeliner is really pigmented, I love it when they are opaque at first swipe.

  • Looking back it was quite funny.
    Do you wear liner often?

  • It really is.

  • Liners are part of my daily makeup routine, so I can't be bothered with an ill performing product. Which liner have you been loving lately?

  • Are you sure it was this exact one? I had a similar looking Black Laquer once and it was peeling like crazy. Same packaging, blue writing…

  • Me too. Which one do you use at the moment?

  • I use gel liners, too, but nothing beats this one when you are in a hurry.
    Which one do you use?

  • That for sure looks great with your smokey eyes.

  • I just recently bought the Urban Decay one and really actually liked it – the liner was like a very thin fine brush. I'd buy it again but instead looking for drugstore options.

  • Then this one many be good to check out.

  • I use their gel eyeliner and its great!

Es gibt auch Outfits ohne Sonnenbrille, z. B. hier http://www.dressedwithsoul.com/2015/01/meal-with-your-name.html 🙂

  • Da muss ich doch direkt mal schauen gehen.

  • Haven't tried that one yet. Do you use black or brown?

  • It is opaque in one swipe, which is very important to me. I hate having to go back in.
Which liners do you use the most?

  • i did reply this but not sure if it got posted:( All my comp makeup looks are up on my site Linda. Theyre pretty out there….stage makeup is pretty heavy :s

  • I am not home rn to tell you exactly but it is not a well known brand. I think something that ends with ..dora (yup!)

  • I see why you like it then.
