BISC Vol. 11 – How to keep makeup looking flawless all day!

BISC Vol.11
How do you ensure your makeup stay flawless all day?

1. Prime: Especially if you have oilier skin or when the weather is warm, prime your eyes and your skin first.
2. Long-wearing formulas: Some products go the distance. Look for formulas that “set” or waterproof ones.
3. Build up in thin layers: Always better than caking too much of anything on in one go!
4. Layer: Layer powder eyeshadows/blushes on top of cream ones for extra dimension and lasting power!
5. Set: Set everything in place with a bit of powder.
6. When all else fails, carry a pressed powder compact with you for touch-ups!

Armani loose or pressed powder, NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base, and Boscia Blotting Linens!
ANNE | Germany | Linda, Libra, Loca
These three things keep my makeup in place: Primers, Powders and Layers.
Eyeshadow base is a must for me (I use MACs Paintpots) and I have tried to incorporate a face primer into my daily routine. To save me an extra step, I use the Eucerin SPF 50+ (read here) as a two-in-one.
Being oily skinned, a powder is a must for me, and as bonus it helps the base stay in place.
Same goes for every other part of yourmakeup: Regular eyeshadows on top of Creamshadows or a powder blush on top of a cream one really increase longevity.

I guess it really depends on your skin type, and also your daily activity. I live in a hot and humid weather, and it’s difficult for makeup to stay flawless the whole day, unless I hide in air conditioned places 24/7. So, if I’ll be out the entire day, I’ll be bringing makeup with me to touch up. For eyes, I use NARS eye primer which will make any eye shadow stay. Cream blushes tend to stay longer on me, and for foundations, I keep them light, and touch up with powder throughout the day.
JAA | Thailand | Hello Jaa
For face, I blot excess shine from my skincare before following with a mattifying primer such as the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. Next I apply a long-lasting base using a Beautyblender and really press it in the skin. I always finish everything off with a light dusting of loose powder. For eyes, I prime with a slightly matte eye primer before I do my eye makeup. For lips, I apply a lip liner all over the lips as a base for my lipstick. I also like to keep blotting sheets handy to get rid of excess oil when needed without disturbing my makeup.

Very helpful post! For me,I always use REVLON colorstay foundation for combination to oily skin, and it lasts all day long!Of course I set it with the powder and it really lasts a long time.It starts getting little bit oily at the end of the day.I used to never use powder,so my mascara would smudge and end up all under my eyes,it was terrible!

  • Hi Anne! I think especially for summer that my primers and powder are a MUST, otherwise the makeup just melts off my face. I have been using cream shadows lately as a base instead of a shadow primer. I think I like the cream shadow base much better, actually (I use the Maybelline Color Tattoo). Happy Sunday!

  • Love Jaa's tips–they're basically dead-on with my own! Love all of the tips, in fact!

By the way, I had gone all this time thinking your name was Linda, Anne! How embarrassing for me!

  • Haha, don't worry, you are not the first and for certain not the last person calling me Linda. My blogname seems to be very misleading.

  • To be honest, I only once owned a dedicated eyeshadow primer years ago and never looked back after discovering colored bases as the MAC Paintpots. So versatile and effective.
Have a happy Sunday, too. What are you up to?

  • I have heard great things about Revlon Colorstay, but as we don't get Revlon here in Germany, I haven't used it myself.
Do you use waterproof mascara to prevent smudging?

  • This is an ongoing series, glad you liked it. Any tips you want to share?

  • Cant understand how some people go without powder, my makeup just slides around the face if I try.

  • I hope some of them will help. But to be honest, if it is really hot, I go for minimal face makeup.

  • Cant go without it.

  • Powder is definitely a must for me to set my make up, too! I also like to skip the extra step of applying sunscreen by using a daily moisturizer that has SPF in it. It also is slightly green-tinted so that it conceals my redness which basically makes it a primer as well ^_^
    Really great & interesting post!

  • Just be careful, the SPF listed on the moisturizer is NOT the amount of protection you get, at least not until you use a heaped teaspoon on your face, which would be a lot of moisturizer. And as usually they claim SPF 15-20, that won't be enough protection even for a cloudy day in Germany.

  • You too.

  • Absolutely no primer? Not even an eyeshadow base? Ah, you don't wear that much eyeshadow, right? It was my first experience with primer and I use one every day.
I hope you have a great week, too.

Thanks for this international review ! It's an interesting question, in fact … especially when the weather is hot ! 😉 Powder is my best friend 😉 xox http://valeriesdays.blogspot.fr/

  • Still there, the first comment on this post. I would never delete your wise words!

  • Powder is a must, I totally agree. Is it very hot in France?

  • Thank you, great you enjoyed it.

  • I only started using cream blushes recently, and I have to say Ilove the longevity they give when layered with a powder. On their own they don't last as long on me.
And you are probably right about the mascara, but I don't like the crispy feeling my lashes get when using waterproof. have I tried the wrong ones or does it simply not bother you?

  • The Double Wear? Or which one?

  • Thank you for stopping by.

  • Ah, the weather in Thailand is very humid, no? I guess blotting paper is really a necessity there.

  • I prefer a light base in summer, too. usually I switch to a powder foundation completely.

  • Thanks June.

  • Which face primer do you recommend?

  • Glad you liked it. it is a feature returning every second Sunday.

  • Which primer would you recommend? i am eyeing the green Smashbox one.

  • Denise

Don't know where my previous comment is… 🙂 I like Porefessional, from Benefit, Smasshbox (really great) and a primer that is not found in Europe (unfortunately it is the best, and when it finishes… 🙁 But only if I wear foundation, there are months that I only wear some powder. Last month, for ex., I only wore foundation twice 🙂

  • It doesn't really bother me because it's a necessity for my stick straight lashes. I have to layer my lashes with waterproof mascara first to hold curl and then with another mascara for volume and length. The only time I don't use waterproof first is when I am testing a mascara.

  • Great post! Powder is definitely a necessity, and great tips about layering too. Setting sprays are key because they can help take off the powdery look plus set makeup.

  • Which Smashbox primer is it you are using?
I don't wear foundation everyday. Since I started investing so much in skincare, I rarely go for full coverage, but opt for BB Creams or powder, if it is hot outside.

  • I have to admit I never use a setting spray. Which one would you recommend to a total newbie?

  • Dressed With Soul

  • I do have to touch up as the weather is hot. For the eyes, I will apply a primer first.

  • The Urban Decay All Nighter! Definitely!

  • Thank you for stopping by.

  • Okay, noted.

  • What primer do you use? I love MAC Paintpots for that purpose.

  • It is a recurrent feature if you liked it. A great way to get some different opinions in.

  • Never without my powder compact these days.
    Which primer do you recommend?

  • Thank you.

  • I haven't tried this foundation, just the concealer. Do you know how it compares? I always fear these heavy foundations will feel incredibly heavy in summer.

  • I like the hourglass Veil or when I need serious matteness (! Ha, is that a word?) the Illamasqua Matte Primer is fab xx

  • I totally agree with you – primer and powder are key in warm weather! Plus finishing off with a setting spray helps to keep things from melting away 🙂 x

I haven't tried the concealer so I don't know about that. I personally don't find the foundation heavy at all, but then I am used to wearing full coverage bases. X

  • What is your favorite setting spray? Believe it or not, I don't own any, so I am looking for recommendations.

  • Okay. I usually go for medium coverage.

  • We don't get Hourglass here in Germany, sadly.

  • I use the Makeup Revolution Fixing Spray for OIl Control 🙂 x

  • Dressed With Soul

  • Thanks of the recommendation.
