BISC Volume 21 – The 5 powder eyeshadows everyone should own!

Name 5 powder eyeshadows every eye makeup wearer should own.

BISC 21 authors

AGATA | USA | Her and Makeup
1. Mac Phloof- a perfect beige highlighting shade.
2. Mac Sable- my favorite golden bronze shade that looks great on anyone, even when worn on its own.
3. Mac Soft Taupe- it might be my favorite shade of all times- a gorgeous taupe shade with silver shimmer.
4. Urban Decay Riff- a matte warm brown shade with tiny gold speckles, perfect for blending into the crease.
5. Lorac powder eyeshadows- I don’t own single eyeshadows from them but their Pro palettes have the most buttery and soft texture and are extremely easy to work with.

Ahh, I can’t choose five!! But if I haaaad to pick a few products… I’m going to go with the Clarins mineral eyeshadows (I am, to say the least, a little bit obsessed with the quads), the old Make Up For Ever 92, and Inglot 420.

And it’s not an eyeshadow, but also I’m going to take a moment here to talk up the Wet ‘n Wild Fergie Eyeshadow Primer, which (when paired with silica powder) is the ONLY thing that lets me wear eyeshadows without getting creasing after 4-5 hours! 😉

These are the ones I think any eyeshadow wearer should own. Color selection based on your complexion, obviously:

1. The blending color, close to your skin tone, preferably matte (my choice: Alverde “Vanilla”)
2. The matte crease color, to define and darken (my choice: MAC “Cross-cultural”)
3. The Wash-of-color, to apply all over the lid and be good to go (my choice: MAC “Satin Taupe”)
4. The every-day duo chrome, to look like you have made an effort (my choice: MAC “Club”)
5. The sparkly night out eyeshadow (my choice: MAC “Dark Indulgence”)

But why limit yourself to just five?

MELISSA | Switzerland | Kiss & Make-up
– MAC Sumptuous Olive
– MAC Deep Truth
– MAC Embark
– Urban Decay Lounge
– Urban Decay Naked 3

JAA | Thailand | Hello Jaa
Oh this is a hard question! But my recommendations are MAC Knight Divine (gorgeous smokey silvery-gray with a hint of brown, MAC Satin Taupe (the “good for everything” color!), MAC Bamboo (perfect crease color for me; it brightens up my eyelid so well!), Burberry Midnight Brown (rich, saturated brown with a lovely, buttery texture), and Urban Decay Buzz (a pretty, shimmery pink from Naked 3).

Which five would be your choice?

Ooo how interesting – so many Mac recommendations!

    Jodie @ Jodetopia x

    • Yes, MAC seems to be very popular. I own barely anything else. Do you own a lot of MAC?

      • jodie.keith

I’ve only got two MAC lipsticks and cannot fault them at all! I always went for cheaper options when I was younger, but as I’ve got more disposable income I’ve been trying out the more expensive brands and you can definitely tell the difference!

        Jodie @ Jodetopia x

        • I think there really is a difference, especially in the eyeshadows. The texture and opacity are just great, and that way I enjoy using them much longer than I do with drugstore ones.

  • No doubt MAC is every ones favourite, i have tried Lorac they are good too. Nice post.
    GlamupGirls

  • I have no idea what my top 5 would be…. But I know two I personally can’t live without are they are the By Terry Ombré Blackstar in Bronze Moon and Burberry Pale Barley. Both because they are one wash colours that I grab when I either have no time or when I can’t make a decision! Fail safes if you will x
    thebeautybloss.com

    • I have both of them sitting on my wish list, but the By terry one is so expensive!

  • I love how Mac and UD are everywhere in this post! Lovely picks! I didn’t know Mac Cross-cultural but I google it and it seems to be the perfect eyeshadow to define indeed!

    https://fannyanddailybeauty.wordpress.com/

    • I haven’t heard much about it either, I don’t even know if it is still available. I got mine way back!

  • Haha, so much MAC love! I guess a good product is a good product! The only powder eyeshadows I own are by elf, and they are in palettes without the colours named anywhere, so… elf. That’s about as precise as I can be 😉

    Erin
    http://sexycardi.blogspot.ca

    • I haven’t tried any elf products, but they are said to be pretty great. How would you describe them in terms of opacity?

      • For the most part I’m really impressed with them! There are a few lighter shades that don’t seem to be quite as pigmented, but otherwise they do the job well.

        • And they are pretty affordable as well, sounds like a great brand.

  • Hmm…tricky one, I’ve never been the biggest fan of powder eyeshadows, the creams and crayons dominate my collection so honestly I am stumped at what would be mine. And whoa, almost everyone is a huge fan of Mac eyeshadows, eh?

Reflection of Sanity | Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Care Package Giveaway (Canada ONLY)

    • I for sure am. But I was a MAC fan girl when I started dabbling in makeup and bought it almost exclusively, so my collections leaves little room fr anything else. Have you tried any so far?

      • Nope, the only Mac products I’ve tried are lipsticks and a mascara. I was so close to purchasing a quad a couple of weeks ago but I’m still on a no buy ban.

        • To be honest, all the mascaras I tried were utter crap. I didn’t find one that worked for me in the whole MAC range.

  • Nadia

Such an amazing post, Anne! Loved reading all about faves of different beauty influencers, including yourself, girlie 😉 Definitely sharing all the UD & MAC love <3

  • I think picking top 5 would be kinda tricky and I don’t really know what I would pick. Everyone is talking about MAC eyeshadows and I don’t have any eyeshadows from MAC, maybe it is time I should invest some money on them!

    http://www.elabellaworld.com

    • I really like them, they are opaque, easy to work with and come in a great selection of colors.

  • I blew my load over on Jaa’s page since I forgot to do this one. I think Rae and I are the only ones who didn’t mention a single MAC shade. Believe it or not I only own one MAC product because it’s a huge tub of shimmer I bought in the 90’s that I will never finish in my lifetime!

    • Don’t you own one because you don’t like MAC or just because you prefer something else? I bought MAC almost exclusively when I build my collection, so there is barely any other eyeshadow brand I use.

  • Deepti Karulkar

This is such a great post. I have a bunch of eyeshadows I want to go get now. 🙂

    Deepti | http://www.mademoisellemeetsmaquillageandmacaroons.com

    • Do you wear a lot of eyeshadow?

      • Deepti Karulkar

Yeah, I think so. Not necessarily a lot in one look. But I wouldn’t leave the house without it, even if it is a wash of a neutral colour.

        Deepti x

        • I like the eyeshadow sticks for that purpose, a quick wash and you are good to go.

  • Adaleta Avdic

I agree with all of UD and the Naked palettes! xx, adaatude.com

    • I dont own any Naked palette (shocking, I know), so I cant speak for those.

  • I don’t have specific recommendations,but would go with:

    1. A matte cream color to highlight the brow bone and/or inner corner
    2. A matte light/medium brown for the crease
    3. A darker brown to add depth to the outer corner
    4. A matte dark brown/black to use as a liner
    5. A shimmery shadow in your favorite color

    http://carolinapage.eu

    • Which would your favorite color be?

      • I really like green, blue and purple on my eyes, but if I had to only choose one, I’d probably pick purple. Yours?

        • Purple. This is a no-brainer with greenish eyes. But I do like orange as well.

  • Alice

I absolutely love the MAC products and these powder eyeshadows you mentioned look gorgeous!

Great recommendations, definitely adding those suggestions to my ever increasing list !
    Thanks for sharing

    What Raj Wants

  • I agree, why limit yourself to five right?? But good picks nonetheless, even though I don’t actually own any of them, lol.

    • I like your picks too, but own only Sumptuous Olive. Still so many eyeshadows to buy…

  • Denise Sabs

I love a blend one closer to the skin tone, plus the matter crease one – normally the one closer to my skin tone is what I wear if I have any meeting, or sometimes nothing, just eye pencil. On Sundays I always do something „bigger“, with some eye shadows you mentioned to show one made an effort 🙂
    DenisesPlanet.com

    • My Sunday makeup is usually pretty minima, but I like to go through my stuff and swatch everything and pick new colors for the upcoming week.

  • I don’t wear eyeshadows, but I would take your advise into account!

    sunandsany.com

    • What is your favorite makeup item then? Barely any lipsticks, no eyeshadows. Are you a blush girl?

      • I don’t use much make-up, a powder and mascara only for a daily make-up 🙂 For my lips I prefer lip balms. When I have a special occasion, I opt for an eye-liner. Favourite make-up item? Well, I wish I didn’t use make-up at all.

        • I see. I feel naked without my liner, so I always wear some. As well as mascara, concealer and blush.

          • You must be a pro in applying an eye-liner then :p

          • I can do it with my daughter (almost two) on my lap, tugging at my shirt. Yes, I´d say I am a pro at liner…

  • Carina Vardie

    Thanks for the great recommendations!

  • Pam Scalfi

im right with Melissa! the naked 3 is a MUST! best Urban Decay palette in my opinion 🙂
    Pam xo/ Pam Scalfi♥

    • I don’t own any NAKED palette, so I cant really tell. But many people seem to love it.

  • Well it’s different choosing between an eye shadow and palette. It’s two different things that can’t be compared.
The Naked pallettes though are definitely a hit!

Stella from a Looks & Travels

    • I don’t like palettes at all, so I´d always go for single eyeshadows.

  • Great choices from the girls, I’d actually find it quite hard to choose some shades!

  • Emily

MAC Satin Taupe seems to be a highly recommended choice – thinking I need to get on this!
    http://www.musingsandmore.co.uk

  • I’ll have to have a think about my five! Great post! xx

    Beautylymin

    • It wasn’t easy. I couldn’t have picked my favorite color, to be honest. Or does „neutral“ count?

  • I have some eye make up by MAC and I like their quality! I always wanted to try an eye palette by Urban Decay. Nice post! xxx

    http://www.naomella.com

    • I love MAC shadows, as well as the blushes and (most of) the lipsticks.

  • You’re a real MAC girl, huh! And indeed.. why limit yourself to just five xD I’d probably choose a lot of UD eyeshadows!

    • When I first started playing with makeup, MAC would be all I would buy. So these days my collection consists mostly of MAC, and it is what I reach for most. I think I only ever finished one eyeshadow in my whole life (Satin Taupe).

  • Roberta Romeo

Wow, how many interesting products! I ‚ve marked some thank you! ^-^
    xoxo

  • This is actually really interesting simply because I do not use eye shadow at all — I’m pretty much blind in that field, haha. I HAVE been hearing a lot about MAC and UD Shadows, though!

May | THE MAYDEN | Bloglovin‘

    • Don’t you like the look or have you just never tried it?

      • I’ve never tried it; being someone with extremely hooded eyes, it becomes somewhat of a challenge to apply and so I’ve never attempted to do so. I went for a shoot once, though, and the makeup artist managed to get shadow on my eyes like any other eye shapes. Perhaps I require more experimentation.

        • I can imagine ti being tricky, but there are tutorials on YT if you want some tips. Or you just stick with lipstick, your lips are so full and pretty (I hope that doesn’t sound too creepy…), it is a great way to have them as your main enhanced feature.

          • Haha, thank you! It’s precisely the reason why I stick to bold lip colours, actually; because I can’t do much with my eyes!

  • any palette with all of them? 😛

    theleeday.com

    • You can customize your palettes by buying single shadows. That is what I do.

  • Mary Kate

MAC and UD are my favorite, but I love how easily Bare Essentials powders go on!

    Mary Kate
    http://www.mynewchicagolife.com

    • I haven’t tried any of the Bare Minerals ones, I am really curious.

  • I’d hate to be limited but I could probably live with just five eyeshadows if I had to since I always reach for the same ones. Stila Kitten would be one of them.

    • I have heard so much about that one, but never tried it myself.

  • I have all the MAC shades recommended and I think they are amazing, love them all. Such a great post idea 🙂 x
