Favorite Face of November 2015

If you are not familiar with the „Favorite Face of …“ series, click here for a little introduction. Short story even shorter, it is the makeup that I wore most during that month, featuring the favorite (as in most used) makeup products.

Favorite Face of November - a quick and easy everyday look.
Favorite Face of November – a quick and easy everyday look.

As many of you may know already, I am currently at home. But as I  stated here, I wore makeup almost every single day to get me into a „work mindset“. Granted, it was a quick and easy look skipping foundation most days, but it was all I needed to feel ready to be productive.

A close up of the eyes:

A subtle brown smokey eye with a hint of purple, flushed cheeks and a statement lip toned down, perfect for working from home as well as a quick grocery run.

I had my mind set on thoroughly testing out the Makeup Revolution London Redemption Palette Iconic 3, so it was all I reached for the last two months. And while I can say that without a doubt I am bored by now, I think I am well prepared for my upcoming review on the 20th. For todays look I applied the right shade (marked with the flat brush in the picture above) all over my lid and used the matte brown shade ( marked by the crease brush, obviously) in my crease.

As mentioned in last months favorites post I had some issues with the shadows going patchy that were related to the liquid eyeshadow I used underneath. After switching to my beloved MAC Paintpot in „Painterly“ application was smooth, albeit still less pigmented than I would have wished for.

To add some purple I used MAC Fluidline in „Macroviolet“ on the outer third of my lid for a subtle lift and finished the look with several coats of Clinique High Impact mascara in black (in depth review here).

Very simple and minimalistic.

Maybellines Instant Age Rewind Eraser in 01 „Light“ (in-depth review here) to cover my dark circles and some redness around my nose, a quick dusting of Maybellines Mattemaker powder in 15 „Light Beige“ (in-depth review here) all over my face and the Essence Cream to Powder blush in 02 „Floral Glam“ (Guerilla Gardening LE years ago) worked into my cheeks. Perfect for a fresh but subtle flush of color.

Yes, I left my spots and scars just like they were, and yes, my daughter recently laid hands on the powder…

Believe it or not, the lipstick I am wearing is the same I wore last month, Manhattans X-treme last & shine in 54V. Only last month it looked like this:

Much more intense, no?
Much more intense, no?

I have received many comments of people telling me they were afraid to go for a really bold lip. I used to be, too, until I eased into it.

Dabbing on the lipstick lightly and blending it in with your fingers was a tip I read quite often, but on me it turned patchy or streaky more often than not. What worked best was applying a generous layer of lip balm (a thick one, like Nuxe Rêve de Miel pictured here) and then applying one swipe of the lipstick on top. Not patchy, but much sheerer. And moisturizing, which is always a bonus during the colder months!

There you go, my „working from home“ makeup!

Do you wear makeup when you know you will be home all day?

And how did you ease into wearing bold lips?

The Maybelline eraser is one of my favourite products of the year I think so’m not surprised yours is used so much! I love the Autumnal lips with this look, really makes it seasonal for November!

    • It isn’t my favorite, to be honest I was a little disappointed. I just try to be good and use it until it is gone… Do you wear bold lips often?

  • I love the bold lip colour on you! And yes,I always wear some make-up at home.. 😊 Becca x

    • Makeup lovers stay makeup lovers, no matter where they are, I guess.

  • Love that touch of purple with the eyeliner, makes it a bit more special!

    • I am not too excited, but I want to finish it before I try another one. Which color do you use?

  • Such a pretty look, well done! <3

  • Pretty! I really like that touch of purple on the lid.

I don’t put on makeup every day although I work from home but I agree that when I do, I feel better about myself, more confident and ready to handle anything! But if I do put on makeup when I am at home and not going anywhere I usually reach for my drugstore makeup or things I want to use up.

As far as wearing bold lip- I was scared of it too. Applying a bold lipstick with a lip brush helps a lot as you can easily control how bold or sheer you want to go! Using a lip liner instead of a lipstick to start off is a good way to ease yourself into wearing bold lips too!

    • Great tips! Although I have to confess I rarely use a lip brush.

  • Beautiful makeup, I was one of those ladies thinking that a bold lip was to much for me and now i love it, sometimes I even we are it at home just because …. aha!
i hope all is doing great for you and you baby!!

Your makeup look stunning! Absolutely love the colors of the eyeshadow palette!

    • It is a pretty, neutral palette. Do you own one of the Naked palettes?

  • I personally don’t wear makeup when I know I’ll be home all day, unless I do it for blogging purposes.
I never really needed to ease into wearing bold lip colors… I just tried one, liked the way it looked and have been loving them ever since!

    • You have a beautiful mouth, so I can imagine it being love at first sight with bold lips. My lips however are so thin, I was afraid to enhance them, so it took me some time.

  • Love the pinky eyeshadows and the purple eyeliner is a stunning addition. Made me want to dig out my Naked 3 to play with those types of colours more. You look beautiful! 🙂 x

  • Love the look! The lipstick is so pretty ♥

  • wearing make up definitely gets me in the mood for work too, haha. i love your eye make up!

  • I did a double take when you said it’s the same lipstick but that’s actually a brilliant way to wear it sheer. I too agree that dabbing and blending a lipstick out with finger does nothing for my lips, made them feely really dry too. What are your thoughts on the Nuxe lip balm? Not sure if you’ve done a review on it but I have been thinking of picking it up. Many raved about it but I’m not sure if it’s anything similar to Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour cream which dried out my lips after a month of usage.

    Shireen | Reflection of Sanity

    • I haven’t done a review on it, I always figured it is just a lip balm, why dedicate a whole post to it? But I am on my fourth tub, so it is safe to say I like it a lot. Not throughout the day, but a layer before bed and in the mornings when I do my skincare routine. I can compare it to the 8 hour cream, have never tried that, but I need experienced any added dryness when using it.
Another favorite of mine is the LUSH „Honey Trap“ balm. Much lighter and great to apply during the day, but still moisturizing.

      • Thank you for the explanation and recommendation, Anne! I think it’s save to get myself the Nuxe lip balm because you’re already on your fourth one.

  • I love this look! I am not one to wear a lot of makeup, so I usually put it on only when I know that I will be going to somewhere more fancy or important. I guess I am just too lazy to put it on everyday, plus, I don’t have enough time in the mornings to do so 🙂 x

    • I love chocolate Lebkuchen, so I only buy them when December comes around, otherwise I´d be eating far too many of them throughout the year!

  • When I am at home all day (which is only some weekends), I wear nothing but a lip balm. I always find excuses not to put makeup on „I have a spot… my eyes are itchy… whats’s the point and so on“. So I envy you now 🙂 Now this lipstick looks totally different and both ways suit you! Can I have that lebkuchen, please?

    • I´ll send you one over! Coffee or tea to go with it?

I figure my makeup is wasted if I don’t use it, so the days when I don’t use anything are rare.

  • How interesting lipstick looks so different between now and then! You look very nice in the last image 🙂

    • Thank you. And yes, I like the different effect a lot. That way you get more use out of one product.

  • Lauren Blair .

That eye color is phenomenal and I love that last shot of you!!! #superbeauty!!! XO

  • This is a great everyday look! It seems like your maybelline powder has seen better days! haha!

I like to wear a bit of makeup when I know that I have to go out somewhere (grocery shopping) but other than that I don’t really bother. A bold lip with simple eye makeup is my go-to! 🙂

    Great post!

    • When my daughter gets her hand on my makeup she manages to break everything within seconds. Quite expensive hobby, having kids…

A bold lip with a simple eye looks like so much effort, but is so easily done, I love it for hectic days too.

  • I usually don’t wear makeup when I know I’ll be at home all day. My skin tends to be quite sensitive so I like to give it a break or give myself an at-home facial. Love this look though, that lip shade is so pretty!

    • I don’t go for a full face, my skin is usually foundation free when I am at home. But I do enjoy playing with makeup, so I end up doing at least my eyes.

  • Gorgeous pallet, nice post

This is so pretty! I love the colours. I work from home most of the time and I always put makeup on. It makes me feel more professional and just generally better about myself! X

    Kate Louise Blogs

    • I can totally relate to that. It feels more like work and less like relaxing that way.

  • Do you apply eyeshadow then or do you stick to lipstick?

  • Corinne C

I’ve been trying to ease into bold lips for years haha! It really suits you though. I love that palette!

    Corinne x

  • the pallet is so pretty! I love the colors

  • I think the bold lip suits you!

    • Thank you. I really enjoy wearing bold lips these days, but it took me a while to get used to it. My lips are so thin, I never wanted to actually enhance them.

  • I don’t wear makeup if I know I’m staying home for the day. Occasionally I might have a little experiment with something new or different, but generally I can’t be arsed if I’m staying in. To be perfectly honest, if I am home all day and I’m reasonably sure no-ones popping in I would rarely make it out of my pyjamas.
I love the bold lipstick on you, I’m slowly easing myself into wearing a bit more of a statement lip more often and I love your suggestion of diluting the colour down with a bit of balm underneath xx

    • If I stay in my PJs, I don’t get anything done. Plus I have to eave the house each morning to take Little Bean to day care, so putting on some makeup before that feels right.

      • Hmm. That’s probably why I don’t get nearly enough done!! Although if I know I have heaps to do around the house it is more motivating to be dressed. The one thing that does motivate me to get stuff down and not lay around all day is to put shoes on. Even flip flops.

        • That is the one thing I rarely wear. I am barefoot most days, or in fuzzy socks come winter.

  • You are too fabulous with wearing this makeup at home! If only you saw me on my days off.. Oh gosh, my routine is shameful. It’s mostly a thick moisturizer slathered onto my face with a swipe of mascara IF I have errands to run. I will admit though, like you said, getting ready at home does put you in a „work“ mindset. Putting on jeans or actual pants instead of my PJs does it for me hahah. Love that bold lip on you! It really brings out those lovely blue eyes. Sorry to hear about your broken powder too. You should try that rubbing alcohol trick that’s all over pinterest to stick it all back together 🙂 Hope you’re doing well!

    • At the moment I am home everyday, so I need to distinguish the days I have something productive to do from weekend/relaxing days, and that helps a lot. Plus, if I didn’t wear makeup when I am at home, I´d never get to try all the lovely things I have sitting in my desk!
To be honest, i am too scared to try the rubbing alcohol thing… There is so much crap on Pinterest, and I fear I will ruin it completely if I try to fix it.

  • Diana Horsfall

You look amazing! I’m always so lazy to do a perfect make-up ;(

  • What a gorgeous holiday look!

  • I love how that red lipstick look on you! And the purple wing is an amazing way to add a hint of colour on the makeup without wearing bright blue haha
I hope you have an amazing day xx

    • Blue is something I struggle with, but as it seems to be on trend next spring, I might start experimenting a little soon.

  • Rosanna Briguglio

Great makeup selection, I love that eyeshadow palette!
    Have a lovely day 🙂
    Rosanna x

    • Do you own it? What do you think of the pigmentation?

      • Rosanna Briguglio

Yes I do! I think it’s pretty good considering the price, I always use it with an eyeshadow primer and it lasts all day 🙂 xx

        • I have no problems with it staying put, but I feel the colors are a little sheer. But for the price I guess it is okay.

  • I love the natural glow you have to your skin! This lipstick is really beautiful on you xx

    • Thank you. And yes, that glow is all natural… Thanks to my oily complexion!

  • I love that lipstick! I go crazy over bold shades, so I am so used it to, but found I had to ease my way into nude shades. LOL

Angie x | Chocolate & Lipstick || UK Beauty and Lifestyle Blog

    • Nudes are tricky. I haven’t found one that works perfectly on me, so I often leave my lips bare. They are quite pigmented on their own.

  • I’m not used to wearing a bold lip so I usually just put one coat of lippie on – that works for me! 🙂 Putting it on top of lip calm is a great tip, thank you for sharing! 🙂

Also I had a giggle that your daughter got into your powder – that’s always the way with toddlers!

    Away From The Blue Blog

    • Toddlers really have a big destructive side. And they are quick!

  • I love this look! And great tip for the quiet bold lip application! I like bold lips so I usually embrace it but, sometimes with very dark shades ( such as Black Cherry by Revlon) I like to first apply some lipbalm, then apply the lipstick and then the lipbalm again, and I only use my fingers, not the bullet or the brush, I find it makes my lips more plump and it is more flattering for my lip’s shape as well!

    • I could definitely use a little more plumping for my lips, they are quite thin. i´ll try your suggestion and see if it works for me.

  • Kiki Rampone

Love the look! The palette looks lovely, I love the mix of shades there. I like the lip color too, a good bold lip is my favorite! Great post 🙂

    • I love smokey eyes all year round. What is the feature you usually emphasize, eyes or lips?

  • Ivana Džidić

this make up look is lovely, I especially like the version with the bold lip.

I work from home, but that doesn’t mean I don’t wear make up. I admit I’m sometimes lazy to do it but lately I’ve been making myself wear make up more often. My favourite make up product is a lipstick. I don’t have problems with wearing a bold lip. Usually, I put some coconut oil on my lips before applying the lipstick and often I also use a lip liner.

    • If I don’t put on makeup, I feel like relaxing all day, so I need it to be productive.

Back in the days i never wore bold lipstick, because my lips are quite thin and I didn’t want to emphasize them, but these days I couldn’t care less!

      • Ivana Džidić

I always like how bold lip looks on thin lips…it looks more sophisticated, while on very full lips it often looks a bit too much (unless the person has dark skin then it balances out nicely).

  • love these colors !!
    Not fashionable

  • This whole look is very pretty and the bold lip color really enlivens your face. I had to slowly ease into bold lip colors because I didn’t think I could wear them and I quite like them now. I sometimes wear makeup when I work form home but it depends on my mood.

    • Yes, it was the same for me. I figured my lips were to thin for bold lipsticks for ages, but decided I would no longer care about two years ago.

  • Danielle

I like your „working from home“ makeup very much. The dark red lipstick looks very pretty on you! I only wear red lipstick on dates or during the weekends; I usually wear a soft pink/peach lipstick.

    • I like the thought of having a „date night“ lipstick. I own a date night perfume and whenever I spray it I instantly get into a great, flirty mood.

  • You look better in your ‚working from home‘ make up look than I manage most days in the office lol! Love the glam x

    • I just love playing with makeup. When I need to rush out in the mornings, I tend to put on a lot less and be very quick about it.

  • I love how soft and pretty you look! It’s something that I’d be happy with doing for an easy, everyday look for sure. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on that palette!

    • My husband would laugh out loud at the thought of me looking soft, but thank you. Do you own a Naked 3 palette?

  • That lipstick and blush colour are so incredibly pretty! You suit a bold lip so well!

    • Thank you. I needed some time to ease into it, but now I really like it.

  • It looks really fresh and natural, I love it! I don’t always wear makeup if I’m staying home, it depends if I’m lazy or not, if I want to test something for the blog, if I know I’ll go for a run or workout later…

    • I don’t like wearing makeup when I workout at all, this is why I usually work out in the mornings before I out it on or in the evenings after a quick precleanse.

  • I love this look – so natural and flawless! Thanks for sharing

    Stephanie | http://www.stephykeung.com

  • First of all, you look stunning.
I love the way you used eyeshadows and liner on the first picture, I’m gonna try to recreate it! The shades are perfect for blue eyes. I haven’t used eye makeup for such a long time and I forgot everything I knew about it haha!

    • Luckily, knowledge comes back very fast once you start playing with makeup again. Why did you stop in the first place? Irritation?

      • Not really. My go to makeup is always a red/dark lip and mascara. But recently I’ve been feeling a burning desire of putting a little bit more effort because makeup is so fun!

  • I have to give Essence a try, it’s unbelievably inexpensive, and I hear good things about their blush! And yeah, I definitely wear makeup even if I’m just working at home – makes me feel more „official“ somehow. Same reason why I don’t wear pajamas all day. 🙂

    • I don’t shop Essence to often, but if I do I am always satisfied with quality and especially price.

  • Maireem Maneje

Love the berry lips and the pop of purple liner! So pretty 🙂 -Maireem

I love the lips! I’m going to try your tip on easing into a bold lip and see how it goes. And I never wear makeup when I’m home all day. Though maybe I should when I’m feeling a bit down or unmotivated 🙂
