First Impressions: Anastasia Beverly Hills, Becca, Revlon and more

After the positive feedback I got on my latest First Impressions video (watch here in case you missed it), and because they are so much fun to film, I decided to stick to the concept and do another one.

The one thing I need to work on is my language (you´d think I would have learned that by now, with a two year old around that repeats everything) and my rambling. Oh wait, that makes two things. Maybe on my maths as well, to make it three.

The finished look
The finished look

But without further ado, here is the video and my thoughts on the products.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless

Claims:

This ultra-lightweight foundation contains micro-powders that absorb oil for a matte and poreless-looking finish
Unique formula goes beyond matching just skintone and also matches the texture of normal to oily skin for the ultimate natural fit.

My thoughts:

My biggest pet peeve: A foundation that claims matte, but isn´t. At least not throughout the whole wartime. On me it applies very natural, skin like, but gets significantly oily throughout the T-zone, so I have to powder/blot within four hours. The coverage is medium buildable, but it feels very lightweight on the skin. I am still on the fence about whether I like it or not.

Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Liner Pen

Claims:

The Luxe Longwear Eye Pen is the ONLY eyeliner you will ever use again. This luxurious formula is super pigmented for rich, beautiful black or brown. The felt applicator allows you to create precise lines that last all day.

My thoughts:

I like the pigmentation and the black-ness (totally a word), but it is a tiny bit drier than I would love. Perfect for very thin lines and precise wings, but not the ONLY eyeliner I will ever use, as they claim.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in „Opal“ (poured)

Claims:

A rich, smooth cream formula that provides high color payoff for a soft, mattified, luminous finish.

My thoughts:

A mattified luminous finish? Sounds like an oxymoron to me, but I have to say, it works. I rarely wear highlighters as I don’t want to look greasy, but that one just adds a very subtle glow I can get on board with. Not for everyday use, but for special occasions and for filming.

Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade in „Medium Brown“

Claims:

Waterproof brow color ideal for sculpting, defining and carving perfectly precise brows that won´t fade. Smudge-free, creamy formula glides on skin and adheres to hair.

My thoughts:

Oh my, that one is pigmented. After the brow disaster seen in the video I think I can say I mastered it. I don’t use it every day, but again for filming or for days when I know I will be out and about for ages and need my makeup to last. It really does not fade until removed, and you need so little, I don’t know how I should ever be able to finish the pot.

Revlon Cream Blush in „Coral Reef“:

Claims:

Blushing beauty is at your fingertips with this weightless, creamy formula. Blends easily into skin, adding a rich flush of color to your cheeks with a soft, satin finish. Looks freshly applied all day, up to eight hours.

My thoughts:

Looks freshly applied up to eight hours? No. But it does last very good on my skin and it sure does blend easily. One of my new favorite cream blushes, as the color is perfect for summer.

Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in „Couture“

Claims:

This velvety soft formula with moisturizing shea butter and aloe is food-proof and doesn’t quit. Available in 20 suede shades. Apply once and go.

My thoughts:

If you read the claims carefully, they don’t say it is a moisturizing formula. They just say it contains moisturizing ingredients, the shea butter. It sure does not feel moisturizing on my lips, it gets sticky after some time and drying after a few hours. The stain it leaves is nice for four hours, but after eight hours of wear, the only color that is left is on my dry patches. Not a pretty look. But when reapplied, that isn’t an issue and I really like the color, so I guess I will get a lot of wear out of this one.

  • Lovely video! I wanted to try the ABH Dipbrow pomade in Medium Brown as well, yet I believe it will be too dark for me as well! I love the Revlon Cream blush formula, this shade is gorgeous and looks like a blush I could actually wear!

  • I want to try ABH brow pomade, yet I am not sure about paying that much money on it so I got NYX one to try out and it is actually really good! Starlooks eyeliner sounds pretty good, I have oily lids and I hate it when the eyeliner smudges so I guess the drier formula would make it last a little bit longer?

    • It is the first brow pomade I ever tried, so I can´t really compare, but should I ever run out of the Anastasia one I will keep that in mind.
It may be that a drier formula lasts longer, I don’t really have a problem with liner smudging on my lid, so I can´t judge. It did last pretty good on me.

    • Totally what I was looking for. I don’t like the overly dewy finishes.

  • I haven’t tried it, so who knows what I would think of it on me, but the Maybelline foundation looked really nice! It looked (to me) a bit more like a BB cream or something, not as chalk-y as other foundations can sometimes look. And the highlighter looked nice as well, a really subtle highlight, but definitely noticeable while not being over the top. You found some great products here, I think 🙂 I did try a Maybelline Baby Lips product, it has a bit of small glitter in it which I wasn’t expecting to like (but I got it in a $5 surprise bag so there was no real loss!) but I did really like the look! Again, subtle but noticeable 🙂

    • I think it is a foundation that will grow on me, now that my skin is slightly less oily than it was throughout pregnancy.
And a 5$ surprise bag? Where did you get that one?

      • It was from one of the big drugstores in Canada, Shoppers Drugmart. I think what they did was take a bunch of products that were being discontinued and rather than sell them separately they put five or six products in paper bags. It was great!

  • As soon as you took the first swipe onto your left brow, I was shouting to the laptop „Too much, Anne, too much!“ You were rocking Instagram brow for a moment there. HAHA!! Little tyke looked at me like what on earth is mummy talking about?

I am glad that the eye liner and the blush worked well for you and shame that the lipstick wasn’t moisturizing, the shade is gorgeous on you though. And you did get my name right and thank you for the shoutout! I actually love the finish of the foundation on you, it looks very natural and your skin looks so healthy. And yes, I can see the highlighter! It’s very soft and natural, hopefully you’ll use it more in your upcoming videos because it looks good on you.

    • It has become a staple in my filming routine. On a day to day basis I am way too lazy to really highlight my face. I know you are a fan of the highlight to be seen from outer space, but honestly, I cant get on board with that on me.

  • That blush looks really nice and the color is perfect for summer. I’ve found it hard to go back to powder blush ever since switching to cream formulas. They work so well both in the summer and winter. I had no idea that Revlon wasn’t available in Germany.

    • It used to be a long time ago, but I think there were just too many drugstore brands, so they pulled out. I enjoy shopping them whenever I am on holiday.

5 orange ail polishes (at the time), wow 🙂 I only bought one last year (orange, I mean) and guess what – only wore it once 🙂 Oh my word, I am in love with this new Maybelline Fit me matte! Watching you applying it was nice, I could really see how it covers well and although it’s not matte, I do prefer dewy products. Alone for that product, I thank you, I want to buy it now!

  • That is a lovely look! 🙂 Shame about the foundation not lasting so long. I find that with the maybelline BB cream I used once. Looks dramatically different at the end of the day. I didn’t use it for long before I switched to another one.

    Away From The Blue Blog

    • Luckily I don’t really need a foundation to last throughout a work day at the moment, but if I need to again it will for sure be another foundation I reach for.

  • Yes, I do see the highlight 🙂 Your skin looks beautiful, very youthful! I really like the Maybelline foundation because it looks very natural on the skin but I agree that it’s not the best at keeping my T-Zone matte but I always use primer underneath so it doesn’t bother me much. x

  • Lovely look here, and good to know your thoughts on these. I’ve been using Anastasia Beverly Hills products for years, and really love most all of them. I have the dip brow pomade and the illuminators. Both took some getting used to but after I practised, I loved them. It will likely last me for a long while. 🙂

      • Just what I need at the moment: Looking young and well rested.

  • I have yet to find a real matte foundation on me. My current favorite, is the Fiona Stiles Matte foundation, however, it’s not truly flat faced matte. I still get shiny on spots of my face. BUT, it is so superior to any foundation I’ve ever tried, that I just deal with the subtle shine and blot away. I have combo skin, so I need something matte for my oil, but not so drying you can see every little skin fleck and flake. (;
    http://www.accordingtokiki.net

    • Oh, combination skin is probably the worst when it comes to choosing a foundation. At least I don’t have to worry about dry skin, just the shine. I don’t think I have ever heard of Fiona Stiles foundation, where do you buy it?

      • Her line is available at Ulta stores and Ulta.com. (:

That Maybelline foundation was such a fail for me! My skin is ridiculously oily and I’ve heard some fab things about it so I had a lot of hopes… But nope, like you said, it just doesn’t mattify at all… I’m going to use up my bottle but no more! I think I should just stick to high end foundations going forward… Loving this series so far hun, keep up the great work! x x
