Inspired by Chanel LA Sunset Spring 2016

If you are not familiar with the „Inspired by…“ series, click here for an explanation.
But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.
Dressing up and awkward posing included!

This months choice was requested by my favorite Italian blogger Carol in a page, who suggested I´d do this one because „I already had the hair“ (original quote).

Now my hair may have a slight resemblance, but I did lack the wind machine, blue skies and the defined jaw line (I am 31 weeks pregnant after all), so please keep that in mind when looking at my attempt.

To make things easier to recreate, I decided to film my struggles technique this time. The voice over was necessary because I knew from previous experience that there might have been some swearing in the process. Not sure if I like the concept of voiceover though, tell me what you think in the comments.

    Beauty with charm

    • I have really been into purple this season, and it seems to be a continuous trend.

  • Woah, girl, you are on a ROLL with your videos! I love that you not only copied the look but also did a tutorial on it. I wish I could do my make-up like that (mirror in hand), but at the moment I just can’t find a camera setup that works for make-up tutorials… Anyway, back to you! Love how much of a difference that concealer makes, really evens out and lights up your skin. And those eyeshadow shades are just gorgeous, so rich!

    • I am far from satisfied with the setup and tried a different background for the next video coming up. I sat on the bed to have a nicer background, but ended up hunching over with time, not looking very attractive. It will take a lot of trial and error and in my case a move to finally figure out how I want it to be…

  • As I said on YT, I think you did amazingly well, you look impressively similar to the model! I just knew it would be the perfect look for you, wind machine or not! 😉
I usually prefer talk-through tutorials rather that voice overs, but I can see the first option being more complicated to film and edit. If I were to make a video tutorial, I’d probably do a voice over as well, at least at the beginning!

    • I have another tutorial up on Sunday which was talk-through, so you can compare and tell me what worked better. I am still not sure which one I prefer.

      • Girls, are you both have YT channels?? That is so cool! 🙂 „Inspired by“ series are my favorite, absolutely love to see how you recreate different looks xx

        • Not for very long, at least not myself. I only started it a few weeks back. It is great fun. Do you have one as well?

        • I don’t have a YT channel. I have an account, but I’ve never uploaded any videos… Maybe someday! 😉

          • You totally should!

          • I still need to do my research on a good editing software. I don’t have a Mac so no iMovie for me!

          • Melissa uses a free Windows editing software, it works just as good as iMovie does.

          • Thaks for the rec, I think they had the brilliant idea of not including it in Windows 10 (which is the version I’m running at the moment)… I’ll check the Windows app store!

  • I love Chanel and their looks are always so beautiful. I love your inspired look here it’s really dramatic and beautiful. The MAC Painterly Paint-Pot is gorgeous and suits you really very nicely. Lovely post and tutorial. Laura http://www.shehearts.net xx

    • Yes, very dramatic, definitely not something for every day. And I do love my Paint-Pots, they work great as an eyeshadow base.

I’m always a fan of purple eyeshadow! It’s maybe a bit to light for me, when I do purple eyeshadow I almost always make a smokey eye! But you did a great job, and you look great in de picture!

    • Thank you. Smokey eyes are my favorite on an everyday basis as well.

  • Mary Kate

You know, I think you did an amazing job! I always get jealous when I see how great models look in ad campaigns, but I never take the time to think how I could modify their look for myself- I love that you’re doing that in this series!

    • I was the same way, and I wanted to know what I could achieve, that way the idea of this series was born.

  • You did a great job! I’m sure there was loads of photoshop involved with the first image- so in reality it looks pretty darn similar! I don’t feel experimental enough to try a purple eye shadow, but I might just have to give it a go 🙂

    http://www.lindseyginge.com

    • Just do it. It looks great on many skin tones, and there are a lot more subtle ways to try it than that one for a start.

  • Voice over or you chatting, both!
And hun, I think you recreated a sweeter look yet more realistic. Love it!

    • Thank you Jhem. I hope you and your baby boy are doing great. Do you manage to get enough sleep?

  • First of all, your video is getting better and better, you just seems so at ease in front of the camera, Anne. It’s as if you’ve been doing this for years. I think you did a brilliant job at recreating the look and I love how it turned out. I don’t mind the voiceover, I think it’s great! I also love chit-chat type of makeup tutorial but I’m sure you’ll add that into the mixture in the future. 🙂

ps: You’re such a pro with makeup application! I am such a novice in comparison. LOL!

    Shireen | Reflection of Sanity

    • I actually have one coming up this Sunday, coincidentally, so I can ask people to compare. The video was the last one I filmed, and there are a few others that will go up over time that I filmed beforehand, so I incorporated everything I had learned so far. Making videos is so much fun, and I have to get some recorded before baby boy arrives…

And I am far fro being a pro, I feel so awkward telling someone how to apply makeup, as I am always discovering new things myself!
When will you be leaving fro your family holiday?

      • We’re flying on 31 Jan and will only be back on 18 Feb. I look forward to taking a very long break from the blogsphere. 😀

  • Such a beautiful look, I am glad you recreated it and brought some summer colors into this gloomy snowy weather (at least in Ohio). I loved the video too, it’s always interesting to see someone else do their own makeup, see the order and the techniques they use! Awesome job, Anne <3

Oh, and I actually like the voice over. I know it's a lot of work but sometimes it's just easier, depends on the kind of video you're filming, I guess.

    Agata http://herandmakeup.com

    • I never thought much about how I apply my makeup until I settled down to film in and had to lay my products out in front of me. It was a strange feeling.
Voice over was actually easier in a tutorial, but I have a chatty one coming up on Sunday and after that we will compare.

    • I figured it would be easier to follow than my written explanations would be.

  • Whenever I try to have that clean eye makeup and use tape, I end up giving myself red face, I guess I shouldn’t be that hard when I apply it. You did a great job with recreating the look, even the posing is perfect. Voiceover is probably easier than chatting along, at least then you could focus on your makeup rather than trying to explain what you’re doing. Poor matte maker… 🙂

    Ela BellaWorld

    • Try sticking it to the back of your hand a few times first, so it barely holds on to the skin. That way it won’t be as harsh when you remove it.

  • This is such a neat series! I think you did a wonderful job recreating it. The colours are perfect and I like that you used a mix of drugstore finds with department store brands. I’ve never done the tape trick either but will give it a go. I think my favourite part of the look is the blue/purple over the eyeliner. Have a wonderful weekend, Anne! You look stunning! xx SS

    http://champagneatshannons.com

    • The idea behind the series was to use what I already own, this is how the mix is created. I adore MAC, but I tend to buy a lot at the drugstore as well, especially basic work horses like powders etc.
The tape trick has been around so long, but I never tried it before. No I wish I would have, it really made everything so much easier.

I’m not sure I’d wear this look, I like purple, but I don’t particularly like to mix it with blue.

You look amazing in this and I love that you showed how to do it in the video. I love the voice over in this. I think it would be much more difficult to talk while doing it at the same time. The voice over makes it more seamless and professional in my opinion 🙂

    • It is, the fun is what keeps me going, I wouldn’t leave the house in about two thirds of the looks of this series, and they look much better in pictures and going than they do in real life usually.

  • Wow, what an amazing re-creation – you’ve totally nailed it! I’ve always preferred voice overs, but more because it’s easier for the video maker to edit and cut out necessary bits?? Even so, I don’t mind hearing you chatter along 🙂

    • After doing both I feel voice-overs are easier for tutorials, but I like to chat along when it comes to empties etc. And actually the editing is similar difficult, because you have to match the length of you talking to the clip, which can be a struggle.
