Inspired by… Chanel Rouge Noir Absolument 2015

If you are not familiar with the „Inspired by…“ series, click here for an explanation.
But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.
Dressing up and awkward posing included!

Chanel Rouge Noir Absolument 2015 Collection

This time the Chanel Rouge Noir Absolument 2015 ad had tickled my fancy. Such a pretty and glamorous makeup!
The purple shadow, the glossy lip, the dark nails and the perfect matte skin. I can totally see me wearing this to a New Years Eve party, sipping champagne while ringing in next year in style!

But without a makeup artists help, would I even come close?
Let´s see!

Hm.

Not quite as glamorous.
Not quite as glamorous.

Not really, I guess.

Products used on my eyes:

Inspired by Chanel Rouge Noir Absolue (4 von 5)

Makeup Revolution London Redemption Palette Iconic 3, Clinique High Impact mascara

Maybe it is the lighting, maybe it is Photoshop, most likely it is skills I don’t have: Getting that gradient glossy purple was almost impossible. I probably retried three times until I finally settled for what you see in the pictures above.
As a base, I used MACs Fluidline in „Macroviolet“, a deep violet that really made the eyeshadow on top stick. Just remember to work quickly, as this one sets quite fast and is impossible to blend afterwards. I learned that the hard way.
To start the gradient effect, I put a very dark purple and a lighter, pink shade of the Makeup Revolution London Redemption Palette Iconic 3 on top (marked by the brushes in the picture above).

MAC Fluidline in „Macroviolet“, MAC Pigments „Stacked 1“, MAC „Universal Mix“ pigment, MAC „Mythical“ eyeshadow

For more shine, I switched to glitter pigments from MAC, the darker one to the outer corner, the lighter one on the center of my lid. Both are from a the „Spring Color Forecast“ LE 2010 and called Stacked 1.
On the inner corner and up to the inner third of my lid I put another MAC pigment, „Universal Mix“ (LE „All Ages, all races, all sexes“ 2010), and blended the edges with MAC eyeshadow in „Mythical“ (Currently repromoted in the „MAC Me over“ Collection).
I think a cream eyeshadow would have worked better than the Fluidline, but I don’t own one in that color.

Products used on my face:

Inspired by Chanel Rouge Noir Absolue (2 von 5)

MAC Studio Waterweight Foundation, Isadora Velvet Touch Compact Powder, Maybelline „Eraser“ Concealer

To achieve the matte base, I applied MAC Studio Waterweight in NC15 all over my face, really working it in with the brush for maximum achievable coverage, and set it with Isadora Velvet Touch Compact Powder in „Soft Mist“ (Review here). For extra coverage, I used Maybellines „Eraser“ in „Light“ (Review here).
No blush, no contour.

Products used on my lips

Inspired by Chanel Rouge Noir Absolue (5 von 5)

P2 Pure Color Lipstick „Corso Como“, MAC „Hot/Cold“ lipglass

Using a lip brush (the one in the picture is a retractable one by Zoeva), I applied P2 Pure Color lipstick in „Corso Como“ as a base and finished it off with MAC „Hot/Cold“ lipglass from the Wash&Dry LE 2015 (Review here).
Despite my lips being significantly thinner than the models, I refrained from using lip injections and just slightly overdrew my contour…

I guess it is safe to say that the part I came closest are my nails (Essie „Sole Mate“). That glossy gradient look is way harder to achieve than I thought, and looking at the pictures above, I probably wouldn’t want to wear my creation out for New Years Eve.
But as New Years Eve will include little champagne and glamour, but fondue and staying in, it probably would have been a little too much anyway.

Haver you ever tried a glossy eye makeup?
And have you made plans for New Years Eve yet?

  • YAY! You finally did it and stupid me thought you did it yesterday, I should have known better because the design is still the same. I love your new blog design, Anne! It’s gorgeous! Great job! Did you choose an available WP template or you had someone design it?

    • I bought this one from Etsy. After spending hours designing one similar, I realized I couldn’t edit the width of the text. It was all narrow in the middle, which was my main issue with my blogger template. So I jumped in and bought one I had loved for ages today. It was very easy to set up, I should have done it from the start!

  • I think you did an amazing job, Linda! It doesn’t look as fancy (Chanel really does everything so fancy that it’s almost unachievable) but it’s still really nice!

    • It was fun, but I am by no means a professional, so I knew my best bet would be to get as close as possible.

  • Oh, you did great! You should definitely wear more purple. This proves it!! And nothing wrong with being a bit glamorous/bold. I wish I could see a picture of you looking into the camera.. just to see how it looks like that 😀

    • Oh yeah, love the new lay-out! It’s loading quite slowly here though?

      • That may be, I still need to figure out why. But for now I am happy it is live and running…

And it looked horrendous when looking into the camera, at least on my eye shape. Like a blackeye.

  • What a fun series! While it may not be an exact replication, you definitely captured the spirit of the look and glamorous works for you! The blog redesign looks great too!

    • Thank you. Both, the makeup and the redesign were pretty hard work, so I am quite satisfied.

  • What a great post! And you did a pretty damn good job! The only difference I would say was that they used a LOT of photo shop and yours is much more natural.
P.S. I LOVEEEE the new layout. So much more sleek and fab!

  • It’s okay that it’s not exactly like the original, I actually really like this one on you, even though glittery flecks are on the eyes. Must have been quite fun to create. The pose is fun and dramatic. Lovely new blog layout by the way /Madison

I have no plans for New Years, and probably will not make any, haha. I’m a bit of a home-body. Besides, my work is open during that day. I don’t know if I’m working, but if I am I’ll probably be tired of standing. And people 😉

    • Thank you. It is so much fun to venture out of ones comfort zone, even though I have to say I have loved berry shades every fall.
Where do you get your inspiration?

  • I think you did a great job actually. Photo shop and lighting have their role to play in the press photo for sure lol! For the eye look maybe incorporating black to deepen the crease even more? Anyway, loving this series as always!

  • I really like this series! This look is much more ’natural‘ on you, because you actually have the skin of a normal human being (and very nice skin it is!), and we can see how photoshopped the girl in the Chanel picture is. You did a great job, I love the eye part! And your nail polish is really pretty too, I definitely need to get it! 🙂
