Inspired by … Dior Glowing Gardens Spring 2016

If you are not familiar with the „Inspired by…“ series, click here for an explanation.
But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.
Dressing up and awkward posing included!

This months installment is the Dior Glowing Gardens Collection, which stood out to me due to the fact that the model was wearing yellow eyeshadow, paired with purple.

To be honest, I didn’t own a yellow eyeshadow and don’t think it is a color I´d get much use out of, but with „Fasching“ (carnival) in Germany in full swing when I filmed it, there were a lot of drugstore options available. And with an affordable yellow at hand, it was time to get filming!

I wasn´t able to get a rose for shooting, so a tulip had to do.

Do you wear yellow eyeshadow on a regular basis?

  • The finished look is gorgeous, normally I don’t like pink tones on fair hair but it really suits you!

    • I don’t wear pinks very often, just like you I don’t think they are that flattering on fair people, but I think the purple helped pull it together.

  • Poor tulip, but we really appreciate its sacrifice!
I think purple and yellow pair really nicely together. I once did a look using purple and lime green (which is not exactly yellow, but contains a lot of yellow pigments) from my UD Electic palette and loved the end result!

    • The shade is mor of a lime green than a true yellow as well, and I was surprised how well it went together, but I am still not 100% sure it will be a color combo I reach for very often.

  • The posing at the end of the video is my favorite part 🙂

That is an interesting look and a beautiful color combination. I don’t think I have any yellow eyeshadows either but maybe I will look for a cheap one next time I am at Ulta!

    • It feels so awkward looking into a camera like this, I don’t know how the models do it and stay serious…
I figured if I could get a cheap one, I would at least try it, but at least in Germany there aren’t many cheap options at the drugstore, the colors there are mostly neutrals or the classic blue and purple. I was lucky it was carnival season!

  • rakhshanda

You did a great job <3 Love this makeup look!!!

  • well, no, I don’t wear yellow that often. And, honestly, I thought that the placement of the yellow was a bit odd for my taste.

Great look, I am drooling over those LE shades! And I really enjoyed seeing the adjusting drops used and getting some ideas on different uses

    • I don’t think I would wear yellow on my brow bone again as well, but I actually liked the color combo, so maybe as an inner corner highlight come summer? It really brightens up the purple.
These shade adjusting drops really work great, and they save me a lot of money, because otherwise all my foundations would be too dark right now.

      • I need to give them a try then! I too have a few foundations that are slightly (or not so slightly) too dark at the moment; some because I bought them in summer and some because the oh so inteligent brands don’t carry lighter yellow toned shades in my country :/

        • They are a little pink based, so keep that in mind. They may make a yellow based foundation more neutral. I don’t find it to be noticeable, but if you are very yellow that could be an issue.

  • Seriously, doesn’t this campaign look look soooo much like Chanel’s 2014 spring look?? I recreated that one as well, so I obviously like this combination of colors.

    • Absolutely. I didn’t follow the collections back then (fall 2014 I didn’t even think about blogging, at least not seriously), but the color combo is pretty similar.

  • I don’t think I actually even own a yellow eyeshadow… well, if you don’t count gold in. Because I certainly have a few golden eye shadows 😀
But I think the combination of purple-pink and yellow is really cheerful and would be perfect for spring! Really quite pretty 🙂
Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend Anne!
    Emma xxx

    • Oh, I do own a lot of gold eyeshadows as well, but that one had to be lime green, so I needed something different. But yes, it turned out way prettier than I would have expected.

  • Siffat Haider

You recreated this look perfectly! I don’t think I would ever go for such colourful eye makeup, but it looks wonderful on you!

    • It isn’t a combination I would have chosen myself, but that is the charm of this series, it pushes me out of my comfort zone.

  • Even your makeup matches tulip’s colour, you sacrificed the perfect flower! I don’t think I have any yellow eyeshadow, and I have one purple that I haven’t even used. All these colourful makeup really suits you, and really love your „inspired by“ series!
I hope there’s nothing wrong with your eyes, is everything ok?

    Ela BellaWorld

    • I am very cruel with flowers I guess.
Thank you, it was just a slight infection that has already passed again. I wear contacts and my daughter loves to poke my eye, so this happens…

  • I really like your take on Dior’s spring collection! 🙂 You pulled off this look perfectly!

  • I’ve never worn yellow eyeshadow, I have to say! This look is very pretty on you! I have so many youtube videos to catch up on & this will be one of them, for sure xx

    • I hadn´t worn yellow eyeshadow until now as well, but I did like the combination now that I did.

  • Love the eye makeup, combination of yellow and purple is amazing, great look xoxo

  • Such a pretty look for Spring, love the purple and lime green/yellow combo.

    Thirteen Thoughts

  • Love, love the colors together! Great bold (bold for inexperienced me) look

  • Fantastic as always – love the awkward pose lol All kidding aside, you did an amazing job. I don’t wear yellows that often but I’d like to more often – just a hint here and there.

    • You got the Dior palette, didn’t you? Have you tried the shadow?

  • I don’t wear eye shadow on a regular basis because I’m actually not good in putting it on. I’m still trying to learn how to do it, yet post like this is always a good help to push me in learning to. Thanks for your inspired by posts, hun

I love Maybelline Eraser, it’s such a stand out product for me, although I find it can be drying at times. I think you’ve done a great job at recreating that advert!

    Musings & More

    • I don’t like it that much, to be honest, just trying to use it up.

  • Sarah Laird

This looks fantastic, I love the range of products you’ve used! x

Viva Epernay | Lush Giveaway ❤

  • I have to say that yellow eye shadow scares me but it works quite well in this look and you pull it off nicely.

    • It did scare me to, but it worked way better than I would have imagined.

  • looks gorgeous, you did a great job recreating the look!

  • Haha I love the switch for the tulip! You did a great job with the eye shadow, I love it! Yellow isn’t a colour I think I’d get much use of either, but it turned out really well.

    • I was surprised, if you´d have asked me I wouldn’t have though about using yellow eyeshadow on me like… ever.

  • Another great one! Can’t say yellow is a colour I’d often incorporate, but you’ve managed to make it wearable!

    • Well, the credit goes to the MUA behind that campaign, I only copied the look. But I liked the yellow surprisingly well, I have to say.

  • Belle M

I love the tulip way more than the original rose haha

    Gorgeous look as always 🙂

    • I am glad the tulip gets so much love, it suffered greatly throughout the process…

    Lovely look

  • Wow, Nice look and video! & I really want to try those adjusting drops!

  • I love it! Fun color combos!

Mann, I don’t have any yellow eye shadows! =O

    • I didn’t either, and they are quite hard to find at the drugstore, but some of the Sleek palettes may have similar shades.

  • I love this kind of posts from you! That eye makeup is so well executed.. I have zero skills! I am ashamed! 🙁

    • Practice makes perfect. Can you imagine how many times I have tried to blend/apply eyeshadow until it looked somehow acceptable? And there is a reason why I do a voiceover with these things, there may or may not be a lot of swearing involved when I try them for the first time…

  • The eye makeup looks perfect.
I love the fun colors in it.

  • gorgeous make up inspo, loving the colors! have a great one!

    xx Melis

  • This look is fabulous and daring! Also, I think the tulip you picked suits the overall style way more than a rose would have.

  • I am very impressed! You did a very good job at recreating eyes look in my opinion and it does suit you well 🙂

    -Leta | The Nerdy Me

    • Thank you Leta. I was surprised how much I liked the finished result.

  • Amazing skills and great tutorial. I totally giggled in the special mention of the tulip!

  • Love it!!! I never wear yellow, never. I might have to try though! xx

    • It was my first time as well, but I don’t think it will be my last. With a different placement though.

Great video, I love the end look. I must try to recreate it!
    Have a lovely day 🙂

  • Kay (shoesandglitter)

Yay for another Inspired By post! 🙂 That yellow eyeshadow looks sooo good on you! I could never wear yellow myself, I don’t think – I’m just not brave enough! But you are totally rocking that look, darling. 🙂 <3 Your hair looks really lovely and healthy, also! x

    • I just had it cut and colored, and I got the Olaplaex treatment for the first time, that may be why.

  • The yellow eyeshadow look great on you! It’s wonderful you gave it a try, I’d be too scared to try something so bold but you make it loo very wearable. I think it’s subtle in the advert too, not too overpowering 🙂

    Away From The Blue Blog

    • These posts are great to make you get out of your comfort zone, I would never have picked a yellow eyeshadow myself.

  • Hi! great take on the Dior Campagne using some more affordable products! Its a daring but still wearable look so can’t wait for spring to come and bring out the colours! the colours pop with your blue eyes 🙂

    x Josune, Your Beauty Script

    • Thank you. The colors worked way better than I would have thought. Would you wear this combination?

      • I would definitely wear it for spring, perhaps on a night out with some friends 🙂 x

  • I’ve always loved complementary colors in…well, in anything really, so I understand why you’d be drawn to the model’s eyeshadow. I don’t wear eyeshadow on a regular basis, actually, so yellow eyeshadow is out of the question.

May | THE MAYDEN | bloglovin‘

    • It certainly wouldn’t have been my first choice as well, but I liked it surprisingly. Sometimes you just need to go get out of your comfort zone. Or at least I do, you seem to be very comfortable experimenting anyway, which I greatly admire.

  • loving the look and especially the lippy 🙂

  • Julia Walker

I totally agree, whenever Fasching aproaches I start to use the more daring products which I’d never wear throughout the year!

    • They are much more of them around that time of year. I don’t think I have seen a lot of yellow shadows any time else at the drugstore.

  • Poor tulip, haha! Love this series! You’ve done really well recreating the look! I actually like top pair yellow gold with purple, I think it’s pretty 🙂 x

    Mummy’s Beauty Corner

    • Yes, yellow gold sounded great, but it was kind of a lime green, a color I wouldn’t have worn on it´s own, and not even thought about pairing it with purple. But it turned out to be surprisingly wearable and I kept it on my face for the rest of the day. Not something that happens very often with these looks…

  • I liked the soft pink lips and cheecks. Beautiful recreation, Linda.
Have a nice day and week!

Loving this look- you always do such a good job!

    Mary Kate

    • Thank you, Mary Kate. There is a lot of struggle and swearing not shown on camera, I admit.

  • Kelly M

Hahahahaha! I love the subtlety of satire in your posts. The purple and yellow eye shadow are beautiful. Two of my favorite together, actually. Well done my friend!

    • I wouldn’t have thought of pairing them on my own, but leaving your comfort zone is the best thing about these looks.

  • Dior glowing garden – I like!!Das Make-up sieht toll aus! xxx

    • Danke. Nicht meine übliche Wahl, aber überraschend tragbar.

  • Aisha

I love the eye makeup! Tulips are my favorite flowers 🙂 so I like it eheh

  • Ooh, I love how you’ve recreated this look 🙂 looks really nice 🙂 I would add some lashes, though, but I love it none the less.. And I think it’s a pretty wearable look. Even for every day 🙂 x

  • Love it! I look forward to this series x
    Becca | theBeautyInbox

  • Did you use something to fill your brows?

    • No, I just brushed them up with some clear brow gel, but I edited that bit out, as I figured it was boring. My brows are quite full at the moment, the hairs just turn down, so if the look is natural, I don’t need anything more than that.

  • Raindrops of Sapphire

I think you did a great job getting a similar look to Dior, love it!

    Raindrops of Sapphire

  • OMG this series is SO FUN! I love how your makeup turned out and the tulip is PERFECT! xo Annie

    • It really is fun to do as well, and it get´s you out of your comfort zone.

  • idu

I honestly look forward to your ‚inspired by‘ posts and this one is just as fab as the last. The tulip was just fine and you killed that look girl. Love love it!

  • I actually like the tulip more. It matches nicely!

I have a few yellows in my collection, but they’re not shades I reach for. I’m not even sure I can pull off yellow. You look great though!

    • I wouldn’t have thought of wearing yellow before that, to be honest. It isn’t a color I figured would look good on me.

  • Once a month, I really cant do them more often. They are so much work! But I am glad you enjoy them.
I don’t think I´d wear the yellow up there again, but I liked it in the inner corner to make the purple pop.

  • I love this series of yours Anne, this one was great! Loved the finished result. Gemma x

  • I love this – and I always love the finishing results. I think you’re really good at makeup and you always make it look easy and flawless, and personally, I love this look on you. I think it suits you quite alot. And personally, the tulip is much prettier.

I don’t own any yellow eyeshadow, and I don’t know if I’ll own one because like you said, I don’t think I’d get much use out of it, I mean – it’s yellow. But I still think it’d be fun to try, and maybe if it’s in sales – I don’t know! We’ll see. You sure pull if off though <3

    Ella Pinto xx

    • It looks easy because I edit the cursing… Joking aside, I think the really difficult part is coming up with a look like that in the first place, I just re-paint it.
The yellow eyeshadow looked surprisingly lovely, I am glad I picked one up, but I wouldn’t have opted for the Dior version. Way too pricey.

  • thefashionsalt

I love this look and the photo! I love the flower you chose for it. This was such a nice tutorial to watch.

    • Thank you, Lili. Tulips are much easier to come by this time of year.

  • How come you put the Body Shop lightening drops directly onto your skin? Is that the only one that is light enough?
Also, I loved the yellow in the inner corner. Often I will use it as a transition shade.

Angie | Chocolate & Lipstick | Beauty, Fashion & Lifestyle Blog

    • I mixed them with my foundation first and used some for highlighting directly on the skin, to get these parts even lighter. I am NC 15 at the moment, maybe a little lighter, so my usual foundations are a little dark. End of winter plus end of pregnancy…
And, to be honest, I wanted to see if they could be used that way.

  • This is something I would look at and think ‚yeah that’s definitely not for me!‘ but it actually looks really great. Awesome! I will try to experiment more with colour 🙂

    • Yes, I felt the same way. Sometimes these looks really help me get out of my comfort zone and discover new things I actually enjoy!

  • Toyas Tales

This makeup look is perfect for spring.
