Inspired by … Jill Stuart Summer 2016

If you are not familiar with the „Inspired by…“ series, click here for an explanation.
But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.
Dressing up and awkward posing included!

This month I really wanted to do something with a hat (silly idea, as it turned out), and something blue, so I chose the Jill Stuart Summer 2016 ad for it´s beachy and summery vibes.

Now I had forgotten that I lost my white hat last year, so I had to make do with a big straw hat. Plus the hand positioning turned out more challenging than I would have thought.

But see for yourself, upon common request I added some outtakes at the end that explain what I mean.

And do you enjoy wearing orange and blue?

    • I wouldn’t have thought it would be wearable, and my husband claimed it wasn’t, but I liked it more than I thought possible.

    • It took me so long to figure out that the model had her back to the camera…

  • Love this look! And the bit at the end where you’re trying to figure out how to pose – it must be hard being a model in real life trying to contort your body every which way! I need to try the body shop lightening drops as a highlighter!

    • Yes, this posing is hard work. I don’t think I could be a model. Well, even if I had the looks, I mean.

  • Toyas Tales

I actually prefer your eye shadow color more than the models. Lol, I can see how the hand positioning could turn out to be difficult. People assume models have it easy all of the time.

    • You should try it. Blue shadow would look amazing against your hair color and complexion.

Beautiful recreation! I love the combination of the blue and orange/saffron colours. And the bloopers are great! That is too funny about the hand, and I actually like your hat the way it is (turned down) better than the one that the model is wearing.

    • I love my hat even though it is impractical once it gets windy. But I feel all slammed up when I wear it to the beach. And well protected.

    • It does, and it would do an even better one if I wasn’t as pale at the moment. But it sinks into the skin easily and is non-shimmery, all I am looking for to achieve a natural highlight.

  • When I first saw the picture it had a Renoir feel to it! I’m at the airport so the video won’t load ad but it looks cute!

    • You are right, the colors and the ocean scenery are very Renoir. Where are you going to?

      • Not going anywhere! I was picking up my hubby who is here for 10 days of crammed in work before he’s off to war for a year or more. We’ve been apart 6 months already and it’s really quite upsetting.

        • Oh, that sounds horrible! Being married to a soldier must be incredibly hard. Not only are you separated for such a long time, but there is the constant worrying. I am sending you my best wishes. Enjoy the few days you have together.

  • I’m actually a fan of Jill Stuart’s fashion line which is very feminine and fun. I was only vaguely aware that she also has a beauty range but I’m not sure if it’s available in the US. I should pop by her boutique soon.

    • You are the first person that actually knows her. If she does mainly fashion, that explains why I never heard of her before. I have absolute no fashion knowledge.

  • I love your pose. I think you did an amazing job recreating the look. I try to recreate celebrity hairstyles sometimes. It must have been fun for you.

    • I have to blame the 80ies. I grew up then, and glitter blue shadow, heavily stone washed jeans and neon triangle earrings have traumatized me. I would never pick blue eyeshadow by myself.

    • It is my „I pretend I am all glamorous when going to the beach“-hat. Doesn’t work too well, as you can see the hat has a mind of its own,

  • The Real Techniques brushes are definitely in my weekly make-up essentials. The Jill Stuart campaign is lovely, and you really did recreated it in your own way. 🙂
    Best Tasty Books

    • I only bought some a few weeks ago and am really loving them so far.

  • You look a lot less tired than I do for sure! 🙂 I’m jealous of your ability with makeup, you can hide the tired signs better!

I think the recreation worked well – even if you didn’t have the hat you’d thought of using first! 🙂

I had a giggle at the comment you left on my blog too – I’m finding it much harder to fit back into my wardrobe this time around. I gained a lot of cup sizes in this pregnancy and so all the shirts I thought I’d use for breastfeeding I can’t! At least I have plenty of stretchy elasticated pieces I can wear post-partum as they worked well in pregnancy 😉

    Away From The Blue Blog

    • Makeup is amazing for that purpose.
I just ordered a few new jeans, as the maternity jeans don’t fit me and I only have one non-maternity I already fit into. At the pace my body is changing it could be a few months until I have los a significant amount of weight, and I cant do it on just one pair of pants. Luckily my tops are already wide and flowy from after my last pregnancy.

      • I’m lucky my denim collection is so large I have a few sizes in there so I have some that work post-baby before I’m back to my regular self (if that ever happens!). I bought a few more pairs last time around in that inbetween size so I’m pretty set. I think buying a couple pairs is a good idea to help you through those months.
Surprisingly for me it’s dresses and tops I’m struggling with the most, complete difference from last time where tops and dresses worked but jeans didn’t for many months…. Just goes to show no two pregnancies change you the same way! 🙂 Saw the physio at the hospital the other day – she said it takes at least 12 months for things to settle, so I’m trying not to rush it. I’ve been focusing on adding accessories rather than clothes to my wardrobe for winter.

        • Yes, there is a saying in Germany: What grows ten months needs ten months to disappear again, and I am trying to have that in mind as well. Last time I was pretty satisfied 12 months post partum, so that is the goal I am setting myself.
Did your abdominal separation improve already?

          • I like that saying 🙂

My muscles still aren’t what they should be so the physio has given me a couple more exercises to do and a referral onto a specialist. They have improved, but only in comparison to the shocking state they were immediately after birth! I get another review in a couple of weeks and an extra opinion around the need for surgery. I wish I’d just got the all clear – it’s hard to avoid using your core muscles and try explaining to a toddler that you can’t pick him up because his baby brother destroyed your muscles by trying to poke his butt out your belly…haha!

          • Wow, that sounds really bad. I was lucky both times with my belly, my separation was quite small and went away almost by itself. Fingers crossed you don´t need the surgery.

          • Thanks 🙂 It’s not as bad as it sounds as it’s not stopping me doing things, just makes my belly look kinda weird but that is a small price to pay for my beautiful boys. 🙂
Hopefully the exercises help improve it further so there is less risk of complications down the road and no need for surgery. It’s just remembering to do them multiple times a day I’m not so good with!
my fingers are crossed also 🙂

          • I know. The weird looks are one thing, and as you say a small price. But it could lead to lower back issues down the road if not treated properly, and that would be awful.
I am as bad as you in remembering exercises if they are short and supposed to be done several times. I have to focus on my pelvic floor and keep forgetting it…

          • hah yes tell me about it – I’ll remember and start to do them then remember something else I need to do and decide to come back to them….next thing I know It’s a day or so later and I can’t remember the last time I did them! I’ve been trying really hard to do them, I have some extra ones on top of the standard pelvic floor ones to do but you have to do them lying down…if I’m lying down I’m sleeping, ha!
Going to really focus on them this week and see if we can get more improvement. At least the physio gave me some ’safe‘ ways to do the things I shouldn’t be doing but can’t avoid (like lifting a baby capsule and carrying the toddler).

          • There is always something that seems more important, and the exercise gets pushed further and further behind until it is time for bed (which is pretty early these days). We should really make ourselves priority more often.

          • Yes it’s important to make a little time for ourselves! I tend to go to bed as soon as the toddler and baby do – means I go crazy early, but also means I get the benefit of baby boy’s longest sleep. I think when he’s more predictable I might be able to stay up a little longer.

          • I just cant get myself to do that. I stay up until ten or eleven and regret it every single time, but I just have so much more to do that I just don’t get done! With the construction work, the move and the blog there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

          • Oh wow I can’t imagine juggling all that! I’m hoping that I’ll be able to stay up later again soon, but right now there’s nothing overly pressing or urgent so I’m letting things slide and prioritising sleep 🙂 Good luck with the move!

          • Thank you. The construction work is almost finished, and everything is coming together nicely.

          • Wow, that sounds really bad. I was lucky both times with my belly, my separation was quite small and went away almost by itself. Fingers crossed you don´t need the surgery.

  • Awww, what a fun recreation! I haven’t heard of Jill Stuart honestly, but the makeup is lovely. I don’t really like orange but I absolutely love blue!

  • You did a great job at recreating this look:) The makeup looks so fresh and summery! To be honest, I tend to stay away from blue eyeshadows, since it usually doesn’t match well with my skin and hair colour. However, after watching this video I am really curious to try again and see what happens:) Thanks so much for an inspiration and have a great day!

    • Did you give it a go? I would love to see a picture if you did.
