Inspired by… Makeup Factory Sahara Sunset Summer 2015

If you are not familiar with the „Inspired by…“ series, click here for an explanation.
But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.
Dressing up and awkward posing included!

This month I channelled my inner gypsy and decided to go with Makeup Factory’s Sahara Sunset  promo picture.

Makeup Factory Sahara Sunset Summer 2015

Of course, I am majorly lacking in the bronze department…

What drew me in were the eyes. The colors themselves are not exceptional, but the bold placement, brought in right to the inner corner of the eye, is quite unique and definitely not my everyday placement.

I promise I am not frowning… It´s the eyeshadow!

And I guess it should stay that way.
In order to match the models look, I had to bring my eyebrows inwards a little more, using a pencil, and that paired with the eyeshadow in the inner part of the lid makes me look like I am frowning…

Here is a close up of the eyes. The liner on the lower lash line, brought down quite far, gives the look the bohemian feel.

Close up of the eyes

How I did the eyes:
After I penciled in my brows, I used MAC „Crosscultural“ e/s around the outer corner and on my upper and lower lash line for some definition. On top, in my crease and right into the inner part of my lid went MAC „Saffron“, a beautiful orange-brown shade. I blended it out using MAC „Bamboo“ and added some MAC „Tissue Weight“ as inner corner and brow bone highlight.
Some black Khol on my upper water line for tightlining and loads of Artdecos Ultra Effect Mascara (Review here) finished the eyes.

Eyeshadows left to right: Cross-cultural, Tissue Weight, Saffron, Bamboo

How I did the base:
I used my MACs Pro Conceal and Correct Palette (Review here) for sculpting my face and blended everything out with Laura Merciers Oil-free Tinted Moisturizer (Review here).

Laura Mercier Oil free Tinted Moisturizer in Nude and MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette in Light

Then I went back in with golden-bronze „Garb“ by MAC, applied my The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder in 02 (Review here) with a very heavy hand and dusted MAC Beauty Powder in „Shell Pearl“ over the high points of my face to highlight.

Left to right: MAC „Shell Pearl“ Beauty Powder, TBS Honey Bronzer in 02, MAC „Garb“ powder blush

How I did the lips:
After lining my lips with Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Khol Liner in „Bare“ I applied Cliniques Chubby Stick in „Mega Melon“ all over the lip, topping it up with Cliniques Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 01 for that rose, glossy sheen.

Taking the pictures in artificial lighting helped a lot with the bronze, during daylight I looked a lot paler…

My final verdict:
I will stay clear from dark shadow on the inner part of my lid from now on. But I will remember to use Saffron come summer. These burnt-orange shades really make green eyes pop!

What do you think?
Do you bring your shadow that far in?

  • I like it, definitely very unique and not too sure whether it'd look great on me, but you can pull it off! Also, how wonderful are Laure Mercier products? I wish they would just sell it here in Belgium, can't find any of her products anywhere!

  • Great job, once again! You do look a little surprised or angry but still cute! I agree, that burnt orange/brown looks great on you! And I think the heavily bronzed cheeks suit you really well too!

Is Saffron a LE? I want it! Lol.

  • I don't think I´ d leave the house like this, to be honest. Way out of my comfort zone.
This Tinted Moisturizer is the only product from Laura Mercier I have tried so far, but I love it. It is sold in Germany for a little more than three years now. What do you have your eye on? And will you order online or do you wait until you can see everything in person?

  • Yes, it was part of the "Surf, Baby" Collection and sadly isn't available anymore. I got it back in the days when I just had to buy at least one piece of every Collection and have rarely used it, shame on me.

  • I love this little series! You did a great job again 🙂 I agree, the eye look is amazing, stunning shades.

  • Boo, that's disappointing. I don't think I have anything similar in my collection. Do you always depot all your eyeshadows?
I will have to check Temptalia for dupes of that shade!

  • Haha I love this one! Love the eysahdow shape you created. I don't think I've ever tried it. Now I kind of wonder how this would look on my eyes 🙂

  • If I don't want to keep the special packaging or they have a certain formula (Mineralize for example), then yes, I depot them. That way I can customize my own palettes for going on holiday.

  • Thank you. The eyeshadow really enhances it. What color do you use to make your eyes pop?

  • Thank you, Nati. Do you use orange shades on your eyes?

  • Thank you. What is your favorite eyeshadow color?

Also wären zwei Tage okay.

  • Me too! I would love to see this look on different eye shapes.

  • I figured you would like them. Thank you for your nice words.

  • This is such a beautiful, bronzed up look. Perfect for summer. 🙂 x

  • Thank you, Marie. Do you wear colored eyeshadow?

  • It actually is easier recreating these than coming up with a unique look on your own. Why not give it a go? You´d be surprised.

  • Thank you, Idu. That means a lot to me, coming from someone who is that creative with makeup.

  • I´d love to see your version of this. Please tweet me a picture if you do one!

  • I get rarely compared to Wonderwoman, but I take it as a compliment. Who wouldn't want to be Wonderwoman?

  • Thank you, but I don't think I´d wear this outside my home.

  • It is fun doing it, you get a whole lot of new inspiration. Where do you look for inspiration?

  • Thank you, Sandy. Where in France do you live?

  • It was born out of the necessity to stop buying and start using what I already had in my stash, but it is great fun.
Have you ever tried to recreate a models look?

  • Thank you so much.
Is this a look you would wear?

  • Love your make up! great series!

  • I always forget how much I like them. Do you wear orange shades?

  • It is great for getting inspired. And I am not that creative, so I would never come up with all the different looks by myself.

  • Thank you. It was the same when you did your Golden Liner look, your eyes looked absolutely stunning!

  • Thank you. It is fun doing the series, so I am happy if you enjoy them.
Do you wear eyeshadow to make your eyes pop?

Also ich glaube fast ja.

  • I guess that would work great. Do you wear falsies often?

  • I love Saffron, but forget about it too often.

  • I guess you could pull of more than you think! It is all about pushing the boundaries with these looks, I would never have thought of doing my makeup like this in the first place.

  • I don't think I´d go to work this way…

  • I guess it would be a little too much for me on a day to day basis, but that of course is different for everyone.
Do you wear strong eye makeup every day?

  • It is such a great color, but it can look scary when you swatch it in the first place. This is why I tend to overlook it way too much. I really have to keep using it come summer.

  • Kate

I love the idea of these colours for summer! Never tried to bring shadows that far in before, kind of curious to try it now! x
