But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.
Dressing up and awkward posing included!

NARS X Steven Klein Collection for Holiday 2015

Up until a few days ago I was determined to recreate the Smashbox “Art, Love, Color” look, which is very unusual and colorful, but when the first pictures of the NARS X Steven Klein Collection flooded my feed, I had a change of mind.
The pictures were impressive, totally different and a pleasure to look at.
Yes, all of them. I mean, look at that one!

Too bad I didn’t have a flower crown to match, but I managed to get a headpiece with net at least.

Please remember, no Photoshop!

My take on NARS X Steven Klein

Like most holiday collections, this one doesn’t focus on one part of the face. It includes flawless skin, heavy blush, smokey eyes and dark lips.
But after all the holidays are the time to indulge, no?

Here is a close up of the eyes, both open and closed. And blurry, because the autofocus chose the net as focal point. Oh well.

1. How I did my eyes
If you take a closer look, you will notice that the eyes are way more colorful than I thought at first glance. There is a lot of green and teal going on, toned down by the heavily lined eyes.
To recreate that, I used “Swimming” (MAC) on the inner and outer third of my lash line, and “Birds ´n´ Berries” (MAC) on the middle part. Both were brought up pretty high (respectively low on the lower lash line) and blended after applying a creamy black pencil liner, L´Oréal Super Liner in “Seductive Black”.
The same liner went on the waterlines, but sadly didn’t stay put too well.
On the mobile lid up to the brows I put “Flip” (MAC) and a little bit of “Manila Paper” (MAC) as inner corner highlight.
Lots of mascara and the eyes were done.

2. How I did my face and lips
I don’t own a full coverage matte foundation at the moment, so I went with what I had bought the other day, MAC Studio Waterweight in NC 15. I tried to amp up the coverage as much as possible, given that my skin isn’t at its best at the moment.
As this foundation is meant to be dewy, I powdered the whole face with IsaDora Velvet Touch Compact Powder in “Soft Mist” and covered my dark circles and blemishes with Maybellines “The Eraser”.
The intense blush I achieved by layering six (!) layers of MaxFactor Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in “Soft Candy” and added some MeMeMe Liquid Highlighter in “Sunbeam” for the gorgeous golden sheen the model has.
Please note the unusual placement of the blush, it creates almost a c-shape around the eye and doesn’t go too far towards the center of the face. I like that!
The fuchsia glossy lips were achieved by two coats of Maybellines Color Elixier in “Raspberry Rhapsody.

I bet this look would look even more stunning on someone as pale as the model, as the colors look awesome against her porcelain skin. But nevertheless I enjoyed wearing the eyes for the rest of the day, even though I would probably do something like this for a summer pool party instead.
In real life, the blush looked very clownish on me, so I rubbed it off and chose a brown-toned lipstick to feel more comfortable doing the groceries.

So what do you think: Pool party or New Years Eve?

Shoutout to the very professional GLS delivery man who didn’t as much as bat an eyelid when I opened the door like this, wearing the hat and stretchy pants!
