Lesley Fightmasters 30 Days of Yoga Challenge – The third week

If you are wondering what this series is about click here for the introduction. But short story even shorter: Inma from „Sunshine&Glow“ (a seasoned yoga lover) and I (a complete beginner) share our experiences with the 30 Days of Yoga Beginners Challenge of Lesley Fightmaster Yoga (here).

Lesley Fightmaster 30 Day of Yoga Challenge for Beginners

Last week was challenging for Inma, as she had a lot on her plate, but she made it through. Was it better this week? Click to find out!

Day 15

Anne

Day 15 already and I only now realized we are doing Sunsalutations… We used to do them before acting classes, many years ago. This time the flow comes much more natural, maybe because we were building them up so slowly. They are quite challenging, at least for my lack of upper body strength.

Day 16

Anne

Yesterday I was so euphoric, I felt like I was really seeing progress, getting into the whole yoga thing, but today is a struggle. I have no balance, no strength and it isn’t fun. I am tired and feel like stopping. If it weren’t for Inma, I would. So I practice and feel sorry for myself.

Day 17

Anne

Today is a short one, and to be honest it is the only thing that gets me to doing it. But today everything is great again. Short and sweet, it never rang truer than that.

Inma

Days 15, 16 & 17: Wow, today is a biggie! I had my yoga class on Wednesday but I couldn’t practice on Thursday so I am two days behind. I’m glad that day 17 is a bit shorter than the others because by the end of it I feel exhausted! Today I am working from home so I am able to practice in my living during lunch time.

Day 18

Anne

Eagles pose! I feel like a pro today, and I don’t even fall over. Or at least not often. We are working on our core as well, something that is dearly needed after having a baby. But I am not going to lie, Savasanah is still my favorite pose.

Day 19

Anne

I had heard of Warrior one and two, but not of Warrior three. I can´t count how many times I have to push pause and catch my breathing. Who knew Yoga could be so challenging? And these 30 days increased in intensity quite rapidly!

Day 20

Anne

When Lesley announces it will be mostly Twists today, I mentally prepare for an easy session. How wrong I was! Holding the poses has me shaking and sweating, and my FitBit, who easily recorded my practice as sleep sometimes, tells me I have moved into cardio zone quite a few minutes.

Day 21

Anne

It is Meditation today, and while the initial stretching goes well, the Meditation itself is doomed with my son babbling next to me. I attempt it again in the evening, when the kids are sleeping, but this time Mr. Loca makes fun of me and I get a good laugh, but no focus on my breathing.

Inma

I am spending 5 days in Spain, which include 2 days with no wifi. Before I set off it is my intention to do days 18 & 19 on Saturday and 20 & 21 on Sunday, but in the end, after a 3am start for a very early flight, I feel wiped out. On Sunday to friends from the UK join me in Spain, and my will power goes out of the window. I am really disappointed that I didn’t practice at all when I am in Spain. I know I should be easier on myself but I feel bad, and feel guilty that I am letting Anne down. But the week has gone now and my options are to continue to feel bad about it or to make a fresh start and actually continue for the last week of the challenge. I choose the second. I have had no routine pretty much since Easter and my wellbeing is suffering the consequences. I know that I can dedicate some time to yoga every day for the last week and I will feel so much better for it!

  • You’re really taking this seriously, huh? Nice. Like I said before, I do yoga pretty much every other day. I’ve been trying to focus mainly on stretching my back (something still isn’t right there) but I don’t feel like I’m making much progress. Maybe I should try out some new exercises and poses.

    • Of course, it is a challenge. What is the point if we don’t? I am really learning a lot of new poses. And realize how tight I really am.

  • You’re doing so well, Anne! My week workout wise? Does walking 1.5 hrs almost daily count as one? Because that is the only activity I do on most days, I’m so lazy to exercise but my son’s school is quite far from home so I try to walk there every day. x

    Mummy’s Beauty Corner

    • I’d say that walking that much definitely counts! I had major surgery last September and all i could do was walk. It took me a month to build up to an hour and that was all the activity I could manage, yet my weight stayed so stable that it has changed the way I see walking and still do it 5 times a week x

      • Thanks ladies! I now feel a bit better even though I don’t actually do a proper exercising routine 😉 x

    • I completely agree with Inma, walking 1.5 hours daily counts for sure.

I took last week off running and I’m terrified I’ll not have any motivation tomorrow to get back to it. I’ve always been intrigued by yoga though but I’ve never known how to get started – this seems like a fab way to do it! x

    • I was the same, always flirted with Yoga, but never really got into it. That challenge as taught me a lot, I can highly recommend it.

Wow, well done on your progress so far! I admire your dedication. 🙂 My week workout wise has been pretty bad, haha. I don’t do any workouts, but I do walk A LOT. It’s a 45 mins walk to my office so I try and do that at least three times a week, when the weather is nice there really is no excuse! <3

    • Walkin counts for sure. It is what I started with after delivery, and I still try to walk every day for at least 20 minutes. And the baby needs the fresh air as well, so it is win-win.

  • Great job Anne! A couple years ago I did something similar to this and at first it seems like such a waste, but after you get the hang of it yoga can definitely get your heart rate worked up! I would love to start doing it again, I think it helps with stress a lot.

    • I cant vouch for that, but I do have really sore abdominals after the core work session.

  • You’re doing so well with your challenge, especially with kids to consider – I’m sure it makes more than the mediation difficult!

Hopefully Inma has better luck next week fitting everything in – it can be hard getting into a routine with something new when there is a lot going on.

    • Thanks Mica! I’ve been a lot better this week and we have the end of the challenge in sight now! x

    • Yes the kids are the biggest challenge actually. But my daughter is in daycare a few hours each day, and I try to practice then, so it is only the baby who could possibly interfere.

  • I think I’m not what you’d call a yoga person 😀 I just don’t think it’s for me. I need something more active, since I’m bored very easily… Seems like you’re doing a great job, though 🙂 xx

    • I don’t think I am a yoga person, strictly speaking, but it is a lot more active than you would think. How is the workout plan going your friend wrote you?

      • Ahh, don’t even go there 😀 terribly… I can only give bad excuses… I will start over soon, though 😀 Say, tomorrow 😀

You took acting classes? That sounds like fun. And I love the twisting poses. It’s funny how your fitbit reads them as cardio, though I can see it reading most yoga as sleep.

  • Yeez I’ve missed out of this fun so far, definitey catching up right now with the earlier updates as I’m all in for workout / fitness / healthy lifestyle posts! I almost never do yoga at home because I can’t concentrate on it with my hubby around 😀 I’ve been doing a lot of aerial yoga though lately, so that’s not even possible at home. I wish I had one of them hammocks hanging from my roof though too!

  • Yoga is not really my thing. Your favorite position would have been mine too if I were to do it. I go on long walks with hubby. That’s the only exercise I get these days.

    • Walking is a great form of exercise, I try and do it a lot throughout the day as well.

  • I had to look away because there were so many gaps in my bits of the post 🙁 But we are on the final week! Yay! And they don’t call it a challenge for nothing! x

    • As long as you don’t give up, you are still in. And yes, it is definitely a challenge.

  • I really admire your dedication because it can’t be easy when you have kids distracting you and the temptation to just sleep must be there when your baby sleeps! Good job! xx

    • The need for sleeps is weighed against the need to fit into my clothes again very day.

  • It’s really interesting to read your yoga diary or so to speak and good on you for sticking to it, Anne! I’m planning to go through Yoga Fix 90 for the send tim and hopefully I’ll fare better than the first.

    • I thought about doing the 90 days as a follow up, but I feel like I want to do something else and will do the Bikini Body Mommy one again. I did it after my first pregnancy as well.

  • You are such an inspiration, specially with two small children. At the moment our long daily walk is all i can manage.

    • Long walks are great to start with, you need to build up stamina. Call it LISS exercise and you are all fancy 😉
How is the special metabolic diet going you started?

      • Had to postpone it because my blood tests came back not great, i have a thyroid condition and my levels are all messed up. My doc said thats the reason im not losing weight easily at the moment. Actually today i should have some answers, hopefully i can get back to my healthy self

        • I see. A thyroid dysfunction can really mess up your metabolism. I hope it will be back to normal soon!

  • Acting classes?! Awesome!
Workout-wise, at the moment I’m only taking water fitness classes (treadmill, spinning, or aerobics) twice a week, which is not much, but it’s better than nothing I guess.
    http://carolinapage.eu

    • Yes, I did quite some acting back in the days, I even toyed with the idea of trying to do it full-time, but it never happened.
And water fitness sounds great, I bet it is quite tiring.

      • You’re full of surprises, Anne!
The intensity of the workout very much depends on the instructor… My current instructor does pretty high-intensity classes, which I like. At least, I feel like I’m making the most of my workout time.

        • My sister is a director, she does documentaries. You could say it runs in the family. She cringes at my XT videos, obviously, and already told me that she´d give me some advice on lighting etc next time we meet.

  • I’m feeling a little under the weather lately, which means I have to force myself to do some yoga, but I know my body will thank me for it later…I hope
