Manhattan Supreme Lash Volume Colourist Mascara – Holiday preparation

I only started to get into hiking (real hiking, mountains and tents included) when I was 30 already. Coincidently my love of makeup, You Tube and blogs really flared up at the same time, putting me in some serious inner conflict.

You see, if you are going for a hike with three nights in a tent, you will not want to add a makeup bag to the things you carry with you day in and day out. But if his hike is with the newly met love of your life and your lashes are blonde from about midway to the tips, mascara seems non-negotiable.

Manhattan Supreme Lash Volume Colourist Mascara

The solution? I booked an appointment for lash tint and lash lift two days before we flew out to Chile to do the W-circuit in Torres del Paine.

Now it will be some time before I do something similar again, but I still don’t want to be bothered with mascara before going to the beach every day on a holiday. And my last lash lift and tint happened somewhere in 2012, so when I got send the Manhattan Supreme Lash Volume Colourist Mascara (*PR-sample), claiming to tint your lashes within two weeks of daily use, I was more than willing to put it to the test.

What Manhattan claims:

Tints lashes gradually darker with every application (visible results after two weeks of daily application). Instantly gives volume and length while being pitch black.

Manhattan Supreme Lash Volume Colorist Mascara – the wand

Facts:

Prize and size

One tube contains 11 ml of product and retails for 5,95 € here. I have only used it for four weeks now, and so far there is no sign of it drying out. The wand is slightly tapered.

Texture and smell

No smell and a formula that is more on the wet side, which I personally prefer. I didn’t find this mascara needed some drying down.

Application and effects

Upon application I experienced the tiniest tickling, but I think that was not the product itself, but the bristles. It did not linger and I have had the same experience with similar wands.

The mascara itself applies very nicely, giving my lashes a separated and natural look. Less drama than I love, but very nice for everyday. See for yourself:

Of course, the most important question: Did it tint my lashes?

Yes, it did. My lashes went from blonde at the tips to darker. Not black, more of a light brown, but it made them a little more noticeable. The effect is very subtle and nowhere near a lash tint, but it is noticeable in person. I struggled with capturing it with the camera though.

The tint lasted after I stopped applying the mascara, and while it may have faded a little over time, I can still see it after another two weeks, so I guess it is permanent until your lashes fall out.

After two weeks of using the mascara
After two weeks of using the mascara

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes.

It tinted my lashes and it applied instantly pitch-black while adding volume and length. In a very natural way.

Will I rebuy?

Maybe.

I do enjoy the effect, especially with a beach holiday coming up, but I want drama on my lashes everyday. Now I could layer it, to get the best of both worlds, but I am too lazy to do that regularly. Still undecided what matters more.

Who do I recommend it to?

If a lash tint is out of your price range, that one is a great budget alternative.

If your lashes are very light and you want to have them darker without the hassle, this one is perfect.

If you are looking for a natural drugstore mascara, I couldn’t recommend that enough.

In fact, I think this is perfect for my sister, who wants a natural look everyday and who’s lashes are even lighter than mine.

Have you ever had a lash tint?

And would you use a product like this?

    • A lash tint is more dramatic, but it is a great alternative and more budget-friendly.

  • This is a very interesting and unheard-of mascara, at least to me! Especially because of its friendly price, I wasn’t expecting such a noticeable effect, yet it truly makes a huge difference! My lashes are only blond at their very end and I have to say it sometimes bothers me because, when I don’t wear mascara, they seem to be a lot shorter than they actually are!

    • It is new, and I haven’t seen anything similar around as well. My lashes are blonde at the tips as well, and it really helped in making them appear longer.

  • This sounds like a cool product for those with light colored lashes. Since my lashes are naturally black, I don’t need to tint them but I wouldn’t mind something that would help them stayed curled for awhile. Lash perms freak me out though.

Wow, I didn’t know mascaras like that existed. I already have really dark and long lashes. Def can see a difference in your photos. 😀

  • I have a very similar product from Rimmel myself and even the packaging looks the same! I got as a free gift from Superdrug last time I was in London and I’ve tried using it, but I must say I’m not too impressed with it. I need more 😀
I’ve never had a lash tint and I don’t really think I need one as my lashes are pretty dark. What I could do is have a lash curl or lash extensions, but I’m worried they’ll destroy my own lashes or at least my own ones will look like nothing after having extensions or so.
Great review though! It definitely sounds better than the Rimmel one! 🙂

  • I like the tint factor.

  • Seems like all it does is stain the eyelashes, which could be an irritant to those with sensitive eyes. It is pretty interesting to say the least.

I think it’s great that it tints your lashes, even if it’s only a little bit. If your lashes are very fair then it’s useful. Mine are pretty dark naturally, so it would be wasted on me. A lash lift is what I need though – mine are so straight! x

  • I never wore a lash tint, but I have the same problem as you had – half of my lashes are blond. And also, I LOVE Manhatan mascaras – unfortunately, they are not sold in every country, so whenever I go to a country where it is sold, I buy 4 tubes (2 of one type, 2 another), no joke. Once I even had to get a tube through ebay, because I wasn’t going to be „near“ a Manhatan product for a while. So your review saying that this new product really does what it promises, and being it Manhatan, it’s a yay for me and I am eager to get it! I could see the difference! And yes, who wants to camp and wear mascara at the same time 🙂 I hope you have a great week, thank you for showing this product!

    • I wear mascara when I came, but not if I have to carry it day in and day out with me.

  • Oh yes, mascara is a must have for me too, my lashes are way too light, I look like I have none if I don’t apply some mascara. I like the idea of this tinting mascara, would definitely try it if it was available in UK. x

    Mummy’s Beauty Corner

    • Some people said that Rimmel does a similar product if the Manhattan one isn’t available in the UK yet.

  • How long do the effect of lash tint last? I haven’t done anything with my lashes, however after reading Anna’s blog and seeing the result, I am curious about it. I have black lashes so product like that wouldn’t do any difference on mine, but it clearly made difference on yours. It looks like an alternative to last tint.

    Ela BellaWorld

    • A lash tint lasts as long as your lashes stay in place, which is usually six to eight weeks. Or do you mean a lash lift? That one lasts around six weeks on me.

  • I don’t think I’d need a lash tint, but it sounds like a neat product. I do see a difference between the 2 photos. Those things can be pretty tricky to pick up on camera, huh?

    • So difficult! I struggle with taking any eye pictures, but these were the worst.

  • I like the concept of this product, but I wouldn’t personally need it for obvious reasons. My lashes are short, though, so mascara is still non-negotiable.
    http://carolinapage.eu

    • There are so many reasons why mascara is a must. I wouldn’t want to go without it even with my darkened lashes.

  • It does look a bit clumpy though, or is that just me?

    • It does in this picture. I only noticed it when editing, and I swear it usually does not clump. I am crap a taking eye close-ups.

      • Well maybe it’s just the photo then. Sometimes pictures show things that really aren’t all that obvious in real life, I notice that too.

  • I wasn’t expecting it to actually darken the lashes so that’s a nice effect, especially if you want to go for a natural look! I didn’t know you have a sister btw 😀

  • Tint in a tube, very impressive! Though, like you, I prefer more dramatic lashes for everyday wear, I can see it being ideal for when travelling/camping.

    Gabrielle | A Glass Of Ice x

    • I really like ti for the upcoming beach holiday. I don’t like wearing makeup to the beach, so it will come in handy that my lashes are a little darker than usual.

  • I didn’t know there was such a product. Quite interesting and you can tell the difference in your before and after photo. I have never had my lashes tinted but I used to get my eyebrows tinted when I still lived in Poland.

Where are you going for your beach vacation?

    Agata http://herandmakeup.com

  • Oh, this looks interesting! It sounds like it would be great for any kind of trip where you likely won’t have the time to apply makeup, or just don’t want to pack it. It seems like a lot of commitment if you want it to be more lasting, though. Still, it would be nice to have as a backup, to give the lashes a boost 😉 Blonde tips are difficult, haha!

    http://sexycardi.blogspot.ca

    • I didn´t find it too hard to keep up with. As I wear mascara every day anyway I used exclusively that for two weeks and the tint stayed put very well afterwards. I will use it before my beach holiday again for sure.

  • Toyas Tales

I have always been very curious about professional lash tinting. I have been a little leery to try it because I have great concern when it comes to any chemical or tool getting too close to my eye and causing damage. So a great lash tint mascara is a fantastic alternative.
    LaToya
    http://www.toyastales.blogspot.com

    • I never experienced any damage, only some slight burning once, so I am not too concerned. i don’t have very sensitive eyes though, that might help.

  • I don’t really need a lash tint (my father’s turkish roots have given me a nice shade of brownish/reddish hair) but unfortunately I’ve inherited the sparse eyebrows and eyelashes from my mother’s european side, so mascara is a go-to product for me! This one I will have a look into further, so thanks for the review 🙂

I’ve never done lash tinting (thank you, genes, I guess) or curling. Also, you know how I often talk about that one mascara that works for me 🙂 I love it way too much to change it even though I did try a number of them AND always enjoy a good mascara review! Especially the ones done by you, hon <3
Love how you actually see the change in the look of your lashes. You look gorg regardless!
As for camping & hiking, I love it but only when it doesn't include an overnight stay. I could climb the mountains all day but must get a hot shower afterwards & sleep in a comfy bed. With that said, we have done the opposite a number of time haha. I survived 😀 Mascara does sounds like that one must-have I'd defo bring along with me! 😉

  • Yes! Rimmel has the same version and I liked it. had the same results. Just like how Covergirl(US) and Max Factor (UK) are the same.

    • Are they the same? I have heard they are similar, but quite different in the details.

  • It’s brilliant that it actually tinted your lashes! Had to laugh at your inner conflict – hiking and make-up.. 🙂 I think I camped once.. never to be repeated again when I couldn’t bring my hair straightener.. lolz

  • Rimmel has a really similar product on the market, that I bought but haven’t tried out yet. I have blonde-white lashes as well, and it’s so annoying! It’s great to see more affordable brands bringing out tints.

    Katherine || The Green Bows

    • Those light lashes can be really bothersome. I am interested in your experience with the Rimmel one, I hope it is as good.

  • I think this is a great idea for busy mums who wouldn’t have time to tint their lashes everyday, even if it’s not something that gives the most dramatic results, it’s a great everyday mascara! 🙂 Seems like a really clever idea.

interesting product…yes, such a subtle difference (from blond do dark brown) is hard to document on photos. Nevertheless, it is good to know that it darkened your eyelashes and the effect seems to be permanant..so I guess the mascara did the job. My lashes are black…but they are very thin, so I’ve been thinking of getting lashes extenssions or whatever those things are called.

On unrelated note, I feel a growing desire to get into hiking myself. So far I only climbed hills but I really want to climb a mountain someday. I’ve been to mountains many times but I never climbed all the way to the top and that’s something I would really love to do.

    http://www.modaodaradosti.blogspot.com

    • You need to do it, it gives such a different perspective on life and everything else, I wouldn’t want to miss it. The mountains change your life.

As for lash extensions: I have heard abut them, but I love my eye makeup, and as you shouldn’t get near your eyes with eye makeup remover to often I don’t think it would be for me.

  • Hm, I’ve never tried or even heard of a mascara doing this to your lashes. I can definitely see a slight difference in your lashes. My lashes are pretty dark and I sometimes want to bite the bullet and get eyelash extensions, but it scares me. I’ve heard some horror stories and some really good ones. I think I’ll just stick to falsies and mascara for now. LOL!
