New Years Eve

This is the last blog post I will be doing this year, as tonight is New Years Eve. I have been contemplating what to do for quite some time now, but remained undecided.

Happy New Year!

A glam makeup tutorial for going out, called my New Years Eve Face?
Who am I kidding, I will be staying at home with Mr. Loca, as babysitters are hard to get and almost impossible to pay tonight, probably in PJ bottoms by nine.

A retrospect on my blogging year?
I have been blogging for full four months, still trying to figure out where I want this blog to go and where my strengths and weaknesses are. A little to early to look back in an elaborate post.

Personal thoughts and New Years Resolutions?
There has been quite a lot personal stuff already, and I don’t think my life is that exciting. And my New Years resolutions… They are pretty boring as well, just repeating the whole eat healthy work out and loose that extra pound (or two) stuff.

So what did I go for?
My blog and beauty resolutions!

During the last months, I have been looking at the blogs I read with different eyes: What do I like, what keeps me coming back, what is it I could integrate into mine?

I discovered a whole lot of new blogs, some still very small, some already growing or full established, and I got a lot of inspiration.

1. My writing.
I love funny, witty blogposts. But I just can’t write them.
Maybe it is because English isn’t my native language, but I think the main reason is, I am just not that funny. I have an organized, scientific approach towards most things, and although I laugh a lot, it is because I surround myself with funny and witty people. That reflects in my writing, and I guess I will have to accept that, forever admiring the blogposts on Karen´s Makeup and Beauty Blog or posts like Melissas Beauty Cluedo: Who murdered my lovely skin?
The resolution is to try and stop being witty and write like I would talk in real life. Businesslike in my reviews, emotional in my personal posts.

2. My pictures
Looking back at the first pictures I uploaded, I cringe. And even if there is improvement already, there are still too many things to work out. So I will focus on finding a good background, improve my posing and selfie skills and figure out the lighting situation!

3. My makeup
I think I am pretty good at doing my makeup for everyday, and sometimes I even get complimented on it by a stranger.
But looking at Agatas perfect fall makeup (I mean, look at those eyes!) and so many other tutorials out there, I realize that it is time to work on my blending, contouring and creativity, especially when taking pictures. The lighting changes everything, and what looks lovely and colorful in person ends up one grey-brown mash in pictures.
On my beauty bucket list is joining Pixiwoos for one of their makeup courses. Would also make a great gift. Too bad Mr. Loca doesn’t read my blog…

4. Sticking to my schedule
When I started blogging, I wanted to upload once a week, but got quickly carried away, as I had some posts prepared, and started uploading twice a week. Once I started, I felt obliged to see it through, even through my exam preparation. Learning from that experience, I resist the urge to upload more often, just because I have some time on my hands right now.
I love returning to blogs everyday for new content, but I know I will not be able to see this through.

What are your resolutions, both personal and beauty-wise?
Let me know in the comments, as I am incredibly nosy!

  • Love this post! My first photos are awful too, I'm really bad for taking hundreds of photos now for one post just so I can get the lighting right – I just use my camera phone so it can be really tricky. I know how to edit them a bit now which helps, or is that considered cheating? Hope you have lovely new years – i'll be celebrating it with pj's, wine & pizza! All the best for 2015 lovely x

    • Practice makes perfect, I guess, so taking 100 pictures might be just the way to go.
I don't think editing is considered cheating, as long as you don't photoshop your head on Kate Moss´ body.
All the best for 2015 to you too, it is going to be an exiting year for you, I am sure. Getting married is a big step.

  • Hi Linda, thank you so much for mentioning me and my eyes, that's such a sweet compliment coming from a fellow blogger!

Taking good photos is extremely difficult and I am so grateful that my husband offers his help with it, not always willingly so I am trying to learn photography myself. It's hard though.

I like your writing and your scientific approach- there aren't many blogs like yours! Karen will always be my guru and I love her wit and creativity but I think it's important not to compare yourself to other bloggers. You are you, you are unique and that's why your readers come back to your blog. Also, even Karen started somewhere and I am sure if she looked back at some of her firsts posts, she'd cringe too! Blogging is a lot of work and we learn something new every day and we grow every day.

Anyways, my resolutions are to get a driver's license and find a new job. Beauty-wise- be more reasonable with my purchases so I don't feel the urge to buy every single thing that comes out!

    Happy New Year, Anne!

    • Aw, you know my first name! i know it is on the blog, but everyone keeps calling me Linda, which is kind of funny. Seeing you write Anne makes me get a little emotional.
Wise words on blogging, and I know they are true. But comparing yourself as a way to improve yourself is very important, I think. I learn a lot by reading other blogs, they are a great inspiration. The one thing I have to stop doing is comparing "Followers". I know numbers don't matter, but it can be a little disheartening sometimes if you feel no one is reading your ramblings. Sweet comments like yours always lift my spirit.

What kind of job are you thinking of? Pursuing your Makeup-artist career?

      Happy New Year, Agata.

    • I saw your real name somewhere in the comments and I was surprised it's not Linda! Why Linda.Libra.Loca then? I compare myself to other bloggers all the time, I know it's hard not to, I just try to remind myself that it's just the beginning.

I was thinking of working at Sephora or Ulta but I don't know if that's really my dream job. I know I need something less stressful than what I am doing now, with better hours and not having to work weekends!

Happy New Year, yours is almost there!

    • I explained it in detail in my first post: Where LindaLibraLoca comes from, but long story short, Linda means "pretty" or *beautiful" and thus stands for the makeup/skincare part of my blog, while Libra stands for my passion for travel and Loca for family life.

Not having to work the weekends is great, but following your passion is even more important. You wrote you wanted to become a makeup artist in your "Liebster Award", so why wait? And working at Sephora might be a good first step. Although I doubt the hours are great when working in stores…

    • I need to go back and read your first post then 🙂

I do want to become a makeup artist and Sephora probably would be a good first step, I am just not sure if I'd make enough money doing that or if I am good enough. I like interpreting and I like working with language but my company really sucks, lol.

    • Are there other companies that offer a similar service, but better working conditions?

    • There are other companies but you have to freelance for them and since my company is the largest company in this field, others don't offer as many hours or any benefits.

    • I understand. Difficult.

    • Thank you, and the same to you!

I hope you enjoyed your cozy evening in.

  • Awwwwww, thank you for the link love 🙂 I personally love reading your blog. Everyone has their own style. I wish you a wonderful 2015, filled with love, happiness and good health!

    • You are welcome, and you truly are an inspiration.

A wonderful 2015 to you, too, may you get what you wished for and much more.

  • Lol, I first thought your name was Linda as well but read your explanation a while back. 🙂
First off I hope you have a great 2015 personally and blogging-wise!
With respect to blogging style, well I think I still haven't found mine so I can't really help there. But from my perspective what I look for in another blog is good product reviews and a sense of 'would I get along with this person'. I feel like writing styles always evolve and change is great.
Comparing is something that happens unintentionally as well and you're right with respect to the fact that it keeps you on your toes and wanting to improve yourself. But overall, I find the beauty community to be largely supportive and that really motivates me. 🙂

    • Yes, the community is great. I had a lot of second thoughts when starting to blog, but the welcome and support are overwhelming.
There are black sheep everywhere, but I have met very lovely people this way.

  • I didn't know we starting blogging around the same time! How fun is that! Happy New Year to you 🙂

Also, I had to laugh when you said you cringed looking back at your first photos posted on your blog, because I recently looked back at my first ones and I was a little mortified– at the time all I had was my crappy cell phone to take photos with (but I guess I'm proud that I didn't let that stop me!).

    • I realized that when I read your "Looking back on 2014" post. Thought you´d be in it for far longer, you have a great blog I love reading.
And your eye makeups look like you´re a pro.

    Happy New Year!

As far as blogging goes, you have to write about things you love in the style you love. That really shines through the posts, and we, the readers, enjoy that.

    • Happy New Year to you, too.

This is what I tell myself every time I get disheartened: As long as it is fun, I am going to see it through! Thank you for stopping by.

  • Happy New Year, may 2015 be the best year for you ^_^

  • I love how brutally honest you are! Will be reading more! 🙂

    • Brutally honest? Never thought of myself being that. But you are welcome 😉

  • Awwwwww, thank you for the link love 🙂 I personally love reading your blog. Everyone has their own style. I wish you a wonderful 2015, filled with love, happiness and good health!
