Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster – Could you face the truth?

Have you ever done a face scan showing you how much the sun has actually damaged your skin?

I haven´t, but I have read about it quite a lot. And even though I would most likely be petrified with horror when I see the results, I have never been one to hide from the truth. At least that is what I tell myself.

To be honest (should I say truthful, to stick with a theme here?) I know that the damage would be great, for I know I haven’t listened to my mother teaching me about the importance of sunscreen back in the days. Instead I tried anything to tan my NC 15 skin as quickly and deeply as possible. I believed in the whole “Red first, tanned later” approach!

So before I actually get the chance to do one, I will try my very best to repair as much of the damage already done. And to help me with that, I tried Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster from the Vitamin C complex range.

What Ole Henriksen claims:

Like a daily vitamin for your face, this high powered vitamin C complex helps smooth out lines and wrinkles and prevents further damage. Loaded with antioxidants to fight off environmental aggressors and moisture-binding ingredients to keep your skin nourished and protected, this aromatic serum is absorbed instantly and penetrates to the deeper layers of the skin to provide long term results. Sensitive skin prone to irritation will benefit immensely from the calming properties of this oil-free serum.

Facts:

There are three different sizes available from the homepage here, ranging from 48$ (30 ml) to 128$ (100 ml). I got mine as a part of the “The Works” set when traveling to Norway this summer, and the 15 ml included have lasted me a little longer than three months of (almost) daily use.

The see-through plastic container comes with a little pump that dispenses just enough of the slightly orange product to cover my entire face and neck.

Just like I´d expect from a product from the “Vitamin C complex” range this one smells of citrus fruits, but only faintly. It is lightweight (and runny, as you can see in the picture above) and absorbs very well without leaving residue on my skin.

I love to use it in the mornings, as it works great under makeup, leaving my skin smooth and supple without feeling like I layered on too much already.

Favorable ingredients:

  • Sodium Ascorbyl Phospate: Vitamin C precursor, less irritating, more stable
  • Calcium Ascorbate: Vitamin C, brightening, antioxidant, improves collagen production
  • Glycerin: Moisturizing
  • Tocopheryl Actetate: Vitamin E, antioxidant
  • Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice: Soothing, anti-inflammatory
  • Orange Fruit Extract: Vitamin C, boosts Collagen, brightening
  • Camelia Sinensis Leaf Extract: “Green tea extract”, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory
  • Euphrasia Officinalis Extract: Adstringent, anti-inflammatory
  • Rosa Canina Fruit Extract: Rich in Vitamin C, reduces pigmentation, promotes collagen production
  • Grapefruit Seed Extract: Rich in Vitamin A, C and E

Unfavorable Ingredients:

  • Fragrance
  • PEG-12 Dimethicone

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes.

Now I can´t exactly tell how “deep” it penetrates, but it is quickly absorbing, my skin appears smoother and I feel after three months of use that my complexion looks more even and brighter. It contains more than enough antioxidants and vitamins to back up the other claims I have no way of actually measuring.

Will I rebuy?

Yes.

I can see me using this a lot during the warmer months.

Who do I recommend it to?

Anyone, with the exception of people with really sensitive skin. It claims to be suited for them as well, but Vitamin C and fragrance make patch-testing before buying seem sensible.

If you are past your twenties and haven’t been always as consistent with your sun screen as you should have been, this one would be a great serum to start with!
