pixi Hydrating Milky Serum – My dropper obsession

I have stated it on this blog before: I am a science nerd. And I do love potions. Not only as part of my daily skincare, but I grew up wanting to study alchemy after reading (too?) many fantasy books.

Alchemy, dear younger readers, is like “Potions Class” in Harry Potter. Don’t get me wrong, I read and liked Harry Potter (without that disclaimer my following would have probably dropped by half tomorrow!), but my Fantasy socialization was already completed way before the first book was published. I think about “The Mists of Avalon” druids before I think of Harry Potter, sorry.

But I am getting off track here. The point I wanted to make is that I love anything that comes with a dropper. And that hasn’t changed yet, despite 9 out of 10 droppers not working properly for me.

Sadly, the dropper on the pixi Hydrating Milky Serum (PR-Sample) is no exception.

What pixi skin treats claims:

This nutrient-rich serum restores dehydrated skin, revealing its natural radiance. Silky-smooth & lightweight, it gives a burst of hydration without a heavy feel. Rose flower extract, jojoba oil, and aloe vera nourish, while glycerin traps moisture to the skin for a plumped effect.

Facts:

Prize and size

One bottle (including a dropper, ha!) contains 30 ml and retails for 26 GBP on the website here. Sadly the dropper never seems to pick up enough product, so I need two or three attempts to get the right amount in the pipette. I have used it for around six weeks now and still have a lot left.

Texture and smell

The serum is white, feels light on the skin and absorbs easily. The scent is just “fresh”, but very subtle. There is no sticky feeling after application.

Application and effects

The recommended 2-3 drops are not enough for my whole face, neck and décolleté, so I use around 4-5 drops. My combination skin feels hydrated, but not heavy nor oily throughout the day and it sits well under makeup. Throughout the warmer months I´d probably leave it just there, but now that it is colder I pair it with a lightweight moisturizer, so I think it would not be enough for very dry skins.

Favorable ingredients:

  • Glycerin: Locks in moisture
  • Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil: Moisturizing, improves elasticity
  • Squalane: Moisturizing, natural in skin
  • Lecithin: Smoothing
  • Rosa Canina Fruit Oil: Rich in Vitamin C, brightening
  • Tocopherol Acetate: Vitamin E, antioxidant
  • Rosa Damascena Flower Extract: smells lovely, Vitamin C
  • Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice: Soothing, Hydrating
  • Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate: Firming

Unfavorable Ingredients:

It contains preservatives, but nothing that would worry me.

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes.

It is lightweight and gives hydration without a heavy feel.

Would I repurchase?

Yes.

It is a lovely no-fuss summertime serum in my opinion, perfect for combination or oily skinned girls. Preferable with other packaging though.

Who do I recommend it to?

People with oily or combination skin that want lightweight hydration and Vitamin C for brightening all year round.

People with normal to dry skin in the summer.

People with a dropper obsession. I know I am not alone.

Would you like to attend potions class? Or study alchemy?
