My Summer Essentials

I bet you are tired of me babbling on and on about my holiday already. But I can´t help it, I am excited.

Only a few days from now I will be flaunting my legs under the sun of France, listening to the waves crashing on the shore and sipping on a cold drink. At least this is what I hope for. Holidays with kids have a tendency to not go like planned.

But at least I want to be prepared. Not in the sport and diet kind of way, I have long given up any beach body plans.

In the beauty department, of course. So let me quickly talk you through my summer essentials.

Looking sick? Use some honey! – The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder

There are people out there, blessed with a porcelain skin.
They have fair, delicate, glow-in-the-dark faces with a rosy sheen to their cheeks.

There are people out there, blessed with deeper skin all year round.
They have warm, tanned, bronze-goddess faces with a golden sheen to the skin.

And then there are people like me.
I have light skin, but I lack the rosy sheen.
I have a warm undertone, but I lack the tan.
So I end up looking pale yellow, which in most cases is used sinonymously with looking sick.

Getting a tan is the one thing that makes me look healthy, but with age spots lurking around the corner (I just turned 36, the struggle is real!) and the fact that I burn instead of tanning most of the time, I had to find an alternative.

In the days before You Tube and Blogging (See how old I am?), my local drugstore and my limited experience were all I could rely on.
I ventured into Bronzer-Territory, but needless to say, the orange tones and my way to heavy hand made me retreat very quickly, relying on self-tanner and blush for the next couple of years.

But You Tube had my back. After watching Ruth Crilly from amodelrecommends and Estée from essiebutton talk about The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder in 02 fair matte, I decided I was ready to give bronzer another chance.

What The Body Shop claims:
This honey enriched pressed powder gives skin an even, bronze matte finish.

One compact contains 11g and retails for 16 € here.
At the moment, there are three shades available: 01 – Light Matte, 02 – Fair Matte and 03 – Medium Matte. All three are matte shades, as the names would suggest.
There is a pretty honeycomb pattern embossed into the powder and a handy little mirror hidden inside the lid.
Pigmentation is good, below you see one swipe using my finger on my NC 20 skin. When using a brush, the color payoff isn’t as strong, but you could build it up to a solid stripe of bronze, if desired. Each to their own.

Favorable ingredients:
It is a bronzer, so I didn’t expect to find skincare benefits, and rightly so. Honey, Vitamin E, Marula Oil and Shea Butter are listed, but make their appearance pretty late on the ingredient list.

Unfavorable Ingredients:
Not really.
Talc may break some people out, as well as Shea Butter, but I had no issues.

Does it live up to its claims?
It is a matte, even bronze in a practical compact.

Will I rebuy?
If I ever manage to finish this one, that is. 11 g are quite a lot of product, compared to what you need for one application.

Who do I recommend it to?
Anyone with fair to light medium skin tone, looking for a matte bronzer.
I would skip 01 Light Matte, as it failed to even show up on me, and maybe look at 03 Medium Matte if you have a darker complexion, but from swatching I don’t think any of these colors suits deeper complexions.

Apart from using it as a bronzer, I put it in my crease as a transitional color when wearing peach or rosé shadows. It is all about multi functionality these days.

What is your favorite bronzer?
And have you been a Oompa-Loompa once, too?
