New in for Spring – Fashion and beauty haul

One thing that is very important in a relationship is sharing a passion and goals. And keeping my marriage a happy one is among my top priorities.

My husband was thrilled when I announced that recently, but somehow his enthusiasm dwindled considerably when I made him sit down and watch lookbooks on You Tube.

All for the greater good, I might add. For the purpose of helping me film my latest haul, which, surprisingly, consists of fashion as well as beauty stuff.

That one was a challenge. I don’t own many blue eyeshadows, and even though I know that blue is going to be big this year, I don´t think I will invest in many more. Achieving a gradient look when your range of color is limited… Oh well, we learn and grow. And in this case, the look was the request of the lovely Carol from Carol in a page, my favorite Italian blogger, so giving up was not an option.

Quite honestly, the Dior Splendor Holiday 2016 makeup wasn´t much of a challenge, makeup wise. Nor was it super unique. But I have done the Dior Holiday look every year since starting the series (here and here), and I have a weakness for dark eyes and red lips, so I decided to stick with the tradition.

And recreating the makeup did prove a challenge after all: The black eyeshadow stick, the one I bought for my first ever „Inspired by“ blogpost, did not work like I had hoped it would. Even with lots of layers, it still looked a little patchy, and it did not stay put too well. So if you have any black eyeshadow recommendations, I am all ears.

And even though we have July and it should be the height of summer, we are here with a fall inspired look. Matte, porcelain skin, dark vampy lips and a resting b*tch face – right up my street.

This months installment is the Dior Glowing Gardens Collection, which stood out to me due to the fact that the model was wearing yellow eyeshadow, paired with purple.

To be honest, I didn’t own a yellow eyeshadow and don’t think it is a color I´d get much use out of, but with „Fasching“ (carnival) in Germany in full swing when I filmed it, there were a lot of drugstore options available. And with an affordable yellow at hand, it was time to get filming!

Dior Cosmopolite Fall Winter 2015/16

When I was researching upcoming trends for a blogpost (going online September 30th in case you were wondering), I couldn’t help but notice how bold and graphic (black) eyeliner is going to be. Bold in an unwearable way, at least for me on an everyday basis, but tempting nonetheless.
So when I first spotted the promo pictures of Dior´s Cosmopolite Collection, I knew I had to do the look!

Please excuse the missing hand, I need one for the camera remote…

Despite looking that dramatic, the look was actually quite easy to do.

Products used for base and lips

1. Products used for base and lips
The artist wanted to create a „soft, luminous complexion“, so a lighter base, in this case the „Clinique Age Defense BB Cream“ was applied. It provides decent coverage, but is pretty dewy at the same time (Review will be up in two weeks).
Wherever I needed a little extra coverage, I used Maybellines „The Eraser“, which I recently picked up. No powder, to keep the skin dewy and just a little bit of MAC „Harmony“ powder blush to define the face shape.
My lips are pretty pigmented on their own, so I erased their color with the BB cream and used the Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick in 842 „Rosewood Pearl“ to bring back that hint of pinky nude the model has.

Now the eyes are certainly the main focus of the look. Despite the bold, graphic placement (pretty much all over the lid) the color is what stood out to me the most. It isn’t black, but a very deep, midnight blue, a color I knew I didn’t own.
To recreate it I used the NYX Jumbo Pencil in 601 „Black Bean“ all over my lid and set it with the dark blue shade (bottom left in the quad above) from a Clarins eyeshadow quad my mother kindly lend me. I rarely ever wear blue, so my options would have been pretty limited otherwise. The quad is called „Eye Quartet Mineral Palette Long-Lasting in 04 Indigo“ and that is as much information as I am able to provide.
A thin black line with my trusted L´Oréal Superliner in „Carbon Gloss“ (Review here) and several coatings of Revlons Photoready 3D Volume Mascara in „Black“ (Review here) and the eyes were done.

Honorable mention goes to my nail polish, a metallic blue by OPI of which I own a mini size and have absolutely no clue what the name is.

In conclusion: I am happy I tried this look, but I will stick to a more subtle eye makeup throughout next season. The color though, something I´d never thought would suit me, is gorgeous and I will most likely wear a more subtle smokey eye with it soon.

How about you:
Is this a makeup you would leave the house with?
And which trend get´s you excited the most?

Inspired by… Dior Kingdom of Colors Spring 2015

If you are unfamiliar with the „Inspired by…“ series, click here for a more in-depth explanation. Short story even shorter, I try to recreate the look a model is wearing in a seasonal ad with the products I already own.

I had to look twice when I first stumbled upon Dior´s Collection pictures, as the vibrant colors on the models dress and the purple smokey eye didn’t scream „spring“ at first.

But combined with the radiant skin and the coral-peachy lip, I really liked it and decided to give it a go.

Finally a pose I felt comfortable in…

Am I the only one feeling an eighties vibe here?

After priming my lids with MAC Paint Pot in „Painterly“ I applied MAC´s powder eyeshadow in „Pink Puff“ in the inner corner and the inner half of my lid. MAC´s eyeshadow in „Semi-Precious“ went on the outer half and my crease, blended well using the matte highlight color of my Alverde Eyebrow Set in „Blonde“.
A thin black line with L´Oréal Super Liner in „Extra Black Gloss“ right to the inner corner of my eyes, tightlining with Lancome´s Le Crayon Khol in „Noir“ (which doesn’t stay put very long, I have to say) and Artdeco Ultra Effect Mascara in „Black“ on upper and lower lashes finished my eye makeup.

A (little grainy) close-up of the eyes

For foundation I used Garnier´s Miracle Skin Perfector All-in-One BB Bream in „Light“ all over the face and applied the „Pale Yellow“ color from MAC´s Conceal and Correct Palette in „Light“ to the center of my face for a highlighted effect.
On my cheeks went a very light dusting of MAC´s Powder Blush in „Instant Chic“, as the model seems to wear just a hint of peach.
The lip color is unlike any I own, a orange-tinted peach (?), so I had to improvise. The closest I could get was coloring my lips in with MACs Lip Pencil in „Mouth Off“, a coral shade, and put MAC´s Pro Longwear Lipglass in „Persistent Peach“ on top.

I decided against chopping my hair off for picture purposes, but just combed it back with some water to achieve the sleek look seen in the picture.

All in all, I love the contrast between the soft makeup and the graphic hair and clothes the model wears. Combined with the strong pose, they take away the sweetness some of the pastel spring collections embrace up to a point where I am not sure I can take it anymore.

So how about you:
All pastels and sweetness, or do you prefer makeup with an edge?
