Fall Favorites 2017 – Being unique

This blog post contains PR-Samples and affiliate links. Please see disclaimer.

Are we ever as unique as we like to think? Most of us, especially those that have any kind of creative outlet online, like to think that their content is fresh and special and easily distinguable from others.

We put “our own twist” on things, have a theme in our pictures and invent fancy names for even fancier blog post series.

And then, one day, we take a step back and realize we are doing what everyone around us does as well. Slightly different, maybe, but not as extraordinary as we would have liked to believe.

Fall Favorites 2017

Last time that happened to me was with my Favorite posts. You may remember I started to get bored (struggled to find enough new things) to keep up a monthly series.

I decided to turn it into a “New In and short reviews” kind of video.

Which didn´t satisfy me either.

Finally, what a revelation, I decided to only do them occasionally.

Turns out, quite a few of my favorite blogs went there already, posting whenever they felt like doing it. I am so yesterday…

But you know what? I don´t care. Sometimes you don´t have to be unique, you can take inspiration to find whatever works best for you and happily stick with it, knowing that quite a few people seem to feel the same way.

A natural flush – My Blush Collection

As I mentioned here before, I have a tendency to look like I am ill.

Or have had way to little sleep (which is true most of the time).
My Blush Collection

To stop people from making me sit down and have a glass of water, I rely heavily on the power of blush, both powder and cream.
Again, this little overview is MAC-heavy, just because I genuinely love their products and bought a lot of them back in the days.

1. The Neutrals
If you would have asked me before I wrote this post which color blushes I owned the most, I would have said „Coral“ without thinking twice.
Boy, I was wrong!
Starting at twelve o´clock, going clockwise: „Garb“, „Blush all day“, „Prim & Proper“, „Semi Precious“, „Personal Style“, „Harmony“ (all MAC)

„Garb“: Sheertone Blush, a warm golden brown.
„Blush all day“: Pro Longwear Blush, a rose brown
„Prim &Proper“: Satin, a rose brown
„Semi Precious“: MSF, a plummy brown
„Personal Style“: Beauty Powder Blush, a true neutral brown
„Harmony“: Matte, a taupe brown, great for contouring
Swatches from left to right: „Garb“, „Blush all day“, „Prim & Proper“, „Semi Precious“ (Center Colors), „Semi Precious“ (All Colors), „Harmony“

2. The Corals:
Not as many as I thought, but as you can see all well loved and left with a dent.
L to R: „Instant Chic“ (MAC), „Orgasm“ (NARS), „Fleet Fast“ (MAC)
„Instant Chic“: Sheertone Blush, a true coral (MAC)
„Orgasm“: A more pink toned coral with lots of golden shimmer (NARS)
„Fleet Fast“: Satin, pinker than „Instant Chic“, but more orange than „Orgasm“ (MAC)
Swatches L to R: „Instant Chic“, „Orgasm“, „Fleet Fast“

3. The Peaches:
My favorite color as soon as the weather gets warmer. Again, all MAC.
L to R: „Warmth of Coral“, „Peach Blossom“
„Warmth of Coral“: Mineralize Blush, despite the name more peach than coral on me.
„Persistent Peach“: Blush Ombre, recently repromoted. Mine is several years old and well loved.
L to R: „Warmth of Coral“, „Peach Blossom“
4. The Creams:
I only got into cream blushes about two years ago, so this part of my collection is the most likely to grow.
I sneakily ordered the MAC Cream Blush in „P.S. I like you“ and didn’t include it here, but will do a separate post with it some time soon.
L to R: „Soft Candy“ (Max Factor), „Floral Glam“ (Essence), „Soft Cardinal“ (Max Factor)

„Soft Candy“: A true red, on the warmer side.
„Floral Glam“: Cream to Powder Blush from a long gone LE, a true red.
„Soft Cardinal“: A warm pink, great worn as eyeshadow (see here)
L to R: „Soft Candy“, „Floral Glam“, „Soft Cardinal“
A lot of products, but most of them already have a dent and I even hit pan on „Blush all day“ (great for long days, because it really last all day). I use blush every single day.
Looking at my collection, I guess I´ll take it easy on the browns for the time coming and try to find some more pinks and/or berry tones…

Growing up and getting faster – the nail polish issue

To me, there is nothing that says: „I am a sophisticated grown up woman that knows how to handle her life“ quite like perfectly done nails in a dark color.

Sadly this is a goal I haven’t met yet.

At first, I was intimidated by the dark colors.
They were so noticeable, looked like you had actually painted your nails! Quite unlike the sheer pinks or barely there glitters you get as a freebie when buying Wendy.
I case you wondered, Wendy is a magazine about horses, aimed at twelve year old girls. I think it is Germany only, but I reckon there are similar magazines everywhere on this planet.

Then, when I finally overcame my fear of looking like I had put makeup on, the „perfectly done“ part was the deal breaker.

As I mentioned before, I am not the most patient girl, and there is always something left to do.
So waiting for the polish to dry is a punishment, leading to chipping and smudging because I just couldn’t wait five more minutes.

But there is hope, brought to me by essence Instant Dry Drops.
Dark months, dark lips, dark nails, this is how I felt for those past few months.
And even if I am not quite sure whether I would call myself a „sophisticated grown up women that knows how to handle her life“ quite yet, I may have looked like one.

The nail polishes that helped me achieve this look were:

1. Essie „Sole Mate“
A deep rich plum with a cream finish. Retails for 7,95 € here.
Essie nail polishes last around five days without chipping on me, and this one is no exception. For reference, other nail polish chips after two days, so five days is good!
Opaque in two coats.

2. Essie „For the twill of it“
A green/purple duo chrome with a metallic finish. It was part of the 2013 fall collection, but you can still get it at 9,24 € here.
The longevity is again five days and it is opaque in one coat, although I prefer two.

3. P2 „Rich & Royal“
This is the first nail polish I bought after I started to get into reading beauty blogs, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.
It is a taupe-grey with a little hint of violet and a dupe for Chanels Particulière. Wearing a nail polish that could have been Chanel made me feel uber-stylish.
Opaque in one coat and with a great longevity.
Much to my dismay you can’t get hold of it anymore, so I dread the day I will run out of it.
Mr. Loca, seldom commenting on anything beauty or makeup related, calls that color the „Hit your thumb with a hammer“-polish…

And to ease my impatient soul, I recently introduced the „Nail Art Express Dry Drops“ by essence into my routine.
They claim to dry your nails within 60 seconds while nourishing nail and cuticle with Vitamin E and almond oil.
Although I am not a big fan of the oily part (I have to get up and wash my hands, as it feels that greasy), my nails are dry in an instant.
Retailing at 1,99 € here, they are a bargain.
