Taking out the trash IV – April 2016 Empties

Again I have been collecting my empty skincare containers and the few bits of makeup that are actually not going to be used anymore and threw all in for a video.

Go get yourself a cup of tea, as it is a long one, but you will be rewarded with mini-reviews and a whole lot of dirty packaging.

Soft smokey eye tutorial – Favorite Face of December 2015

If you have been around for a while now, you may have gotten used to my „Favorite Face of…“ series. Of course I cant tell whether you are bored out of your mind or looking forward to my monthly makeup ramble, but I have been meaning to keep it up.

Soft brown smokey eye with a hint of purple

Now I have started this month with a yearly favorites, so the „Favorite Face of…“ is a little late and probably does no longer count as „December Favorites“, which is why I named it „Tutorial“ for the upload on You Tube.

Not very surprising it features a soft smokey eye, using browns and a hint of violet (I feel I have been wearing barely anything else this winter), paired with either a nude or a bolder lip.

You all know the disclaimers, I am no professional, just an enthusiastic amateur, both when it comes to makeup and to videos, but I hope you enjoy nonetheless.

Inspired by Chanel LA Sunset Spring 2016

If you are not familiar with the „Inspired by…“ series, click here for an explanation.
But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.
Dressing up and awkward posing included!

This months choice was requested by my favorite Italian blogger Carol in a page, who suggested I´d do this one because „I already had the hair“ (original quote).

Now my hair may have a slight resemblance, but I did lack the wind machine, blue skies and the defined jaw line (I am 31 weeks pregnant after all), so please keep that in mind when looking at my attempt.

„I love my P2“ collection – We may not have Boots, but…

Many of my German readers can relate: You watch You Tube videos, you read blogs, and you can´t help but bemoan the fact that Target, Boots (and Sephora!) are way out of reach.

Now let’s not forget that we do have our own drugstore, stocked with brands people in the States will never lay hands on. But are they a worthy competitor?

Well, when one of my favorite bloggers published a Boots only makeup tutorial (Watch here) right the next day after I received some pieces of the „I love my P2“ collection for testing, I figured it was time to find out!

Chanel Rouge Noir Absolument 2015 Collection

This time the Chanel Rouge Noir Absolument 2015 ad had tickled my fancy. Such a pretty and glamorous makeup!
The purple shadow, the glossy lip, the dark nails and the perfect matte skin. I can totally see me wearing this to a New Years Eve party, sipping champagne while ringing in next year in style!

But without a makeup artists help, would I even come close?

Big love – My jumbo lip pencils

It is no secret that I love red lips.
I recently tried to do a roundup for a „Collection“ post on all the reds I owned, but (don’t judge!) there was just no way I could have fit them all on one picture.

So two things happened:
I put myself on a red lip-whatever spending ban.
No exceptions this time.
I will apply a strict „Two out, One in“-rule, even though it will hurt.

L to R: Astor „VaVaVoum“, Revlon „Striking“,  P2 „Burning Red“, Clinique „Mega Melon“

And I decided to split them up and do a separate post for each subcategory: Lipstick, Lipgloss and, today:

Jumbo Lip Pencils.

Swatches left to right: Astor „VaVaVoum“, Revlon „Striking“, P2 „Burning Red“, Clinique „Mega Melon“

1. Astor Soft Sensation Lip Color Butter in „VaVaVoum“
Aptly named, the color goes on creamy and opaque, drawing attention to your lips.
I love how easy it is to apply (can almost be done without a mirror) and how soft it makes my lips feel, but the creaminess comes with a lack of longevity and a tendency to transfer to your mug/glass/husbands cheek.

Astor „VaVaVoum“

In case you wondered why mine looks so strange, Little Bean approved the color by biting a big piece out of it. At first glance I thought she had bit her tongue and was bleeding.
When applied, the color is a warm, deep red with a tendency to make your teeth look yellow.

Astor „VaVaVoom“, Ostsee 2014

2. Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in „Striking“
One of my splurge on Revlon cosmetics back when we visited New Zealand in January this year.
Because you still can´t get Revlon in Germany, you know? Shame!

Revlon „Striking“

Despite being marketed as a matte balm, I can see a subtle sheen when applied. More balm than matte on my lips!
Not drying, but not nourishing either and with a tendency to cling to dry patches, so make sure to moisturize your lips well before you wear it.
It stays put for several hours, doesn’t transfer too much and leaves a pretty stain when fading.
This one is a true red, maybe slightly on the warmer side (can you sense a theme here?) and smells of mint, although I don’t notice any plumping effect or tingling when applied.

Revlon „Striking“

3. P2  True explosion lipstick pencil in „Burning Red“
An impulse buy a few years ago, when we decided spontaneously that I would stay at Mr. Locas over night for the first time and I had no makeup with me. So I said I´d go out and get some candles and quickly grabbed a mascara, some powder and this lip crayon on my way.
Please tell me I am not the only one who would do this?

P2 „Burning Red“

Again a warm red, creamy and not at all drying, but seriously a pain to wear. It never settles, it transfers everywhere and if I drink or touch my face I´ll end up with nothing on my lips, but red streaks on my chin or cheeks.
So why do I still own it? Because I love the color and the subtle sheen it has. And because I love the memories it brings to mind.
So I go through the whole process of blotting, lip pencil and checking the mirror every five minutes just for the sake of wearing it.

4. Clinique Chubby Stick for lips in „Mega Melon“
This one is a little cheat.
It isn’t a red in the classic way, and it is way sheerer than the ones mentioned above, but I love it and wouldn’t have known where else to fit it, so here it is.

Clinique „Mega Melon“

I grab this one whenever I want a moisturizing, fuzz-free MLBB-color, usually for work. It is worn down to a little stump and I will be very, very sad when it is gone.
No transferring, but no longevity, so I have to reapply every two or three hours. That way my lips stay moisturized, so I don’t mind.
You have seen me wear it before here:

Do you own any lip crayons?
And is there one makeup product you just keep on buying?

Growing up and getting faster – the nail polish issue

To me, there is nothing that says: „I am a sophisticated grown up woman that knows how to handle her life“ quite like perfectly done nails in a dark color.

Sadly this is a goal I haven’t met yet.

At first, I was intimidated by the dark colors.
They were so noticeable, looked like you had actually painted your nails! Quite unlike the sheer pinks or barely there glitters you get as a freebie when buying Wendy.
I case you wondered, Wendy is a magazine about horses, aimed at twelve year old girls. I think it is Germany only, but I reckon there are similar magazines everywhere on this planet.

Then, when I finally overcame my fear of looking like I had put makeup on, the „perfectly done“ part was the deal breaker.

As I mentioned before, I am not the most patient girl, and there is always something left to do.
So waiting for the polish to dry is a punishment, leading to chipping and smudging because I just couldn’t wait five more minutes.

Essence nail art express dry drops

But there is hope, brought to me by essence Instant Dry Drops.
Dark months, dark lips, dark nails, this is how I felt for those past few months.
And even if I am not quite sure whether I would call myself a „sophisticated grown up women that knows how to handle her life“ quite yet, I may have looked like one.

The nail polishes that helped me achieve this look were:

1. Essie „Sole Mate“
A deep rich plum with a cream finish. Retails for 7,95 € here.
Essie nail polishes last around five days without chipping on me, and this one is no exception. For reference, other nail polish chips after two days, so five days is good!
Opaque in two coats.

Essie Sole Mate

2. Essie „For the twill of it“
A green/purple duo chrome with a metallic finish. It was part of the 2013 fall collection, but you can still get it at 9,24 € here.
The longevity is again five days and it is opaque in one coat, although I prefer two.

Essie For the twill of it

3. P2 „Rich & Royal“
This is the first nail polish I bought after I started to get into reading beauty blogs, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.
It is a taupe-grey with a little hint of violet and a dupe for Chanels Particulière. Wearing a nail polish that could have been Chanel made me feel uber-stylish.
Opaque in one coat and with a great longevity.
Much to my dismay you can’t get hold of it anymore, so I dread the day I will run out of it.
Mr. Loca, seldom commenting on anything beauty or makeup related, calls that color the „Hit your thumb with a hammer“-polish…

P2 Rich and Royal

And to ease my impatient soul, I recently introduced the „Nail Art Express Dry Drops“ by essence into my routine.
They claim to dry your nails within 60 seconds while nourishing nail and cuticle with Vitamin E and almond oil.
Although I am not a big fan of the oily part (I have to get up and wash my hands, as it feels that greasy), my nails are dry in an instant.
Retailing at 1,99 € here, they are a bargain.

And your secrets to keeping your polish put and shiny?
