Qlabo Eauphoria – Sugar of life

Have you ever been to the desert? And maybe wondered after a few hours spend in the dry heat how on earth anything could thrive here?

I happened to come across plants after a rare shower in the Israeli desert a few years back that looked way better than the ones at home on my window sill. To be honest, almost any plant looks better than mine at home do, as I am notoriously neglecting them, but for the dramatic effect let´s ignore that fact.

Back then I learned that these plants secret is Trehalose, the “sugar of life”. It forms a gel inside cells when they are dehydrated that keeps the cellular structure intact until rehydration is possible. Not only in desert plants, but possibly in human skin cells as well, minimizing the lethal effect dehydration and rehydration has on them. Which, translated, means less dry and flaky skin.

But even without that background information a product containing “sugar of life” would have had my undivided attention. I mean, sugar, hallo? Meet Qlabo Eauphoria *, named after the French “eau”, which means water, and euphoria.

My Morning Skincare Routine – Summer 2017

When I say summer, I actually mean spring/ summer. Or even more precisely, the warmer months starting around April and lasting until end of September.

Morning Skincare Routine

My skin is combination oily, aging and acne prone. Ever since I started using a prescription strength retinol a few times a week it can be dehydrated, but never dry. The t-zone gets pretty shiny throughout the day and I wear contacts, which means that my eyes can be sensitive when it comes to eye cream.

After letting you under my skin like that, prepare to be talked through my Morning Skincare Routine. Every single step. Read more

Brand Spotlight Doctor Duve Medical Skincare

Even though I think I have picked up quite a bit of blogging lingo over the years, some things will forever be alien to me. Like the term “branding”. Sure, I know what it means, but the first thing that comes to my mind is a cow getting marked with a red hot iron. Which maybe isn´t that far from reality, now that I think about it.

Or “Instagram theme”. Luckily that is already so 2016, with lot´s of big names telling us how liberating it is to no longer have one. Good thing I never figured out what mine would be, or I would have dozens of rainbow picture probs going to waste now.

If I look at my feed though I can´t help but notice that there is some repetition going on in my pictures. Not in terms of probs (I don´t use any) or background (most of the time it is my bathroom wall), but in terms of the things I take pictures of.

Because, believe it or not, the majority of my pictures is skincare routines. The real ones, the ones that I actually did put on my face, and as I am a huge fan of thoroughly testing a product, you will see the same pots and pumps over and over again. Boring? Maybe.

Zelens Power D Treatment Drops – What ifs

In every beauty lovers life comes the time when they really, really want to try a product, but simply can´t justify the spending. I have several pieces like that sitting on my Pinterest board, staring at me whenever I log in, reproachful, mournful, whispering antiaging promises I am not sure they are willing to keep.

And like the candle you save for a special occasion, you wait for the perfect opportunity to treat yourself. Yet that opportunity never comes, and you are left dreaming about what-ifs. What if I had started using it years ago and now looked like Giselle Bündchen, not like your average mama with too many sweets and too little sleep?

Enough of that! I thought as the offer for the Cult Beauty Spring Goodie Bag came in. I am going to buy one thing from my list. One thing that is expensive enough to single-handedly qualify me for a gift with purchase.

And my pick? The Zelens Power D Treatment Drops.

DNA Eye Renewal – Science and surprises

If you are a regular reader here, you will know that my skincare reviews require a lot of work. Not only do I try to be as detailed as possible in describing my experience, but I do research the ingredients and claims behind them as well. It helps a lot that I have access to medical databases, because, quite frankly, the „scientific“ claims on a brands website are ridiculous.

When starting my review on the DNA Eye Renewal, I already had an opinion on the cream and its claims to repair DNA, and I was in proper ranting mood. But then I did the research. The medical one. The one on the claim of topically applied DNA repairing enzymes. And guess what: They work. Scientifically proven, they do work in reducing the incidence of skin cancer while en passant undoing sun damage like wrinkles and hyper pigmentation.

But does that mean that I will urge you all to go out and buy the DNA Eye Renewal eye cream? Let´s see.

Alpha-H Daily Essential Moisturizer SPF 50+ – The gods are jealous.

The beauty gods are jealous.

After stating numerous times that I rarely needed to moisturize my face at all, only in winter, and then not every day, things began to change.

I hinted it here already, and even though I was still in denial how much my skins needs had already changed, I decided to bring a moisturizer when packing for New Zealand.
And because sunscreen is important, and time, too, I decided to go for Alpha-H´s Daily Essential Moisturizer with an SPF of 50+.

Alpha H Daily Essential Moisturizer SPF 50+

Yes, I know I go on and on about not getting your SPF from your moisturizer, and I still believe that you will never get the protection written on the bottle, just because you use too little, but even a little SPF first thing in the morning is welcome when you spend the whole day outside, and I was lazy and yes, I burnt my nose.
Badly.

What Alpha-H claims:

Provides waterproof, broad-spectrum sun damage protection at SPF 50 without feeling heavy or looking chalky on your skin.
Suitable for all skin types, even combination/oily, it strikes the perfect balance between long-lasting hydration and a non-greasy, barely-there texture making it the perfect base for makeup.

Facts:

The product comes in a squeeze tube, different from the one I show in pictures (mine was part of a gift set) and contains 50 ml of product.
It retails for 40 € on the Cult Beauty website.

Alpha-H Daily Essential Moisturizer

Favorable ingredients:
– Cera Alba (Bees Wax): Smoothing
– Hydroxyethylcellulose: Firming
– Tocopherol (Vitamin E): Antioxydant
– Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract: Moisturizing

Unfavorable Ingredients:
– Mineral Oil: I have talked about the disadvantages of mineral oil here.
– Parabenes: Disturbing hormonal balance in animal studies, no effect on humans proven. I don´t mind them, but I know one people do.

The used sunscreen is a chemical one, Octocrylene, so no risk for flash back or white cast. It does though come with a warning for an increased risk for contact dermatitis, so keep that in mind if your skin is sensitive.
Most reviews I read said it dried down to a semi-matte finish, but that didn’t happen with me.
My face looked pretty „glowy“ after application. Not greasy, but powder-worthy.

Does it live up to its claims?

Most of them.

It is non-greasy, after it sunk in it felt lightweight, there is no chalky overcast to your face after you used it and it sits well under makeup.
But I don’t think it is suitable for all skin types. At the end of our holiday, after two long flights and lots of air-condition, my skin was dry. No more combination, I am talking dry as in dry, flakey patches on my cheeks and neck, and tightness everywhere else.
So I can tell you first hand: If your skin is severely dry/dehydrated, this moisturizer isn’t going to do the job.

Will I rebuy?

No.

I like it, it is a decent product, but in the end it didn’t wow me.
And I don’t like using mineral oil based products, even though it isn’t that bad when it is the last layer put on my face, so I will look for an alternative.

Who do I recommend it to?

If you have oily/combination or normal skin and like to save the extra step with SPF in the morning, this is for you.
Girls with dry/dehydrated skin, go get something else.
