My French Skincare Haul – and a fashion video!

Sometimes a tiny shift in plans can bring up unwanted comedy.

You see, when I planned my content for September, which was long before my summer holiday started mid-august, the last prerecorded video was an Empties one (here in case you missed it). And to go with the video, I wrote a whole post on how little I was buying, how sensible and mindful I was with my shopping, yada yada yada.

My French Skincare Haul

Originally I had planned to upload a holiday vlog next, but then I last minute decided to post my vlogs on Wednesdays (here and here if you missed them) and instead film a fashion haul.

To go with the fashion filmed I wanted to share my skincare and makeup shopping on the blog and it turns out it was quite a bit. Which is a little ironic, reading me bang on about how little I buy on Monday and then see the gigantic amount of skincare I shopped just a week later.

But such is life, so please smile, forgive me and keep on reading for my skincare haul summer 2017.

Bare Minerals Original Foundation SPF 15 – Clueless

I am a very opinionated woman. And I have no trouble making a decision and sticking to it. In fact, I think that this is my forte.

Mr. Loca would probably disagree with the last sentence, but I think it is helpful to be able to make up your mind quickly and not lose sleep over decisions you made. In fact, I rarely ever lose sleep over anything, I am a sound sleeper. If my kids let me, that is.

But every once in a while I come across something that leaves me completely clueless. This time it was the Bare Minerals Original Foundation SPF 15.

Beachy, Glowy, Bronzed makeup – Summer Vacation 2017

I don´t know about you, but I always have big plans for my upcoming summer holiday. Read at least three new books, exercise a lot, sleep ten hours a day and take time to experiment with makeup.

Because, let´s face it: The creativity I do develop at 6 am right before work is only directed towards developing the skill to brush my teeth half asleep without falling over. Adventurous and exotic makeup looks do take the back seat.

But, truth be told, despite packing half a suitcase full of products I don´t really spend much time on my makeup anyway. I prefer to invest my free time into people watching from a café while eating a croissant. Or two.

And in an attempt to pack streamlined (I will have a video up on what I bring so you can have a good laugh. Streamlined, ha!) I sat down and decided beforehand which look I wanted to give a go this time.

Beachy, glowy, bronzed. Out of my matte base comfort zone. But hey, it is a beach holiday after all!

Inspired by Lancome Summer Swing 2017 Collection

If you are not familiar with the „Inspired by…“ series, click here for an explanation.
But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.
Dressing up and awkward posing included!

I guess we all have a picture of ourselves in our head that not necessarily matches reality. For me, that is the Boho chick I want to be every summer. The one that wears maxi skirts, turquoise bracelets and tousled waves with random braids.

Lancome Summer Swing 2017 Collection

For many summers I was determined to make it happen, to match my outer appearance to my inner portrait, and every summer I was left disappointed. I just can´t be effortlessly chic, carelessly beautiful and look like I woke up this way. It is just not who I am. I either look like I really woke up this way, which is a look no one wants to see, or like I tried very hard.

Thankfully Lancome came to my rescue and the Lancome Summer Swing 2017 Collection gave me the perfect template to recreate a Boho look that I am actually very happy with.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay in place makeup-Off trend

Yes, I know it is summer. Hot days, bronzed skin, effortless makeup. And yet, admist a flurry of posts singing praises for dewiness and light coverage, here I am. Ready to talk about a flat matte, full coverage foundation. In fact, about THE matte full coverage foundation – Estée Lauder Double Wear.

Why? I can hear you cry out! Why suffocate my feed with thoughts about heavy coverage? Why plant pictures of my base melting off my face into my mind?

Well, it is easy, dear reader. Because I can. And because it has been almost a year now that I started using the Estée Lauder Double Wear, I have gone full circle, experienced all the seasons. I am ready. And completely off trend, once again.

Brand Spotlight Doctor Duve Medical Skincare

Even though I think I have picked up quite a bit of blogging lingo over the years, some things will forever be alien to me. Like the term “branding”. Sure, I know what it means, but the first thing that comes to my mind is a cow getting marked with a red hot iron. Which maybe isn´t that far from reality, now that I think about it.

Or “Instagram theme”. Luckily that is already so 2016, with lot´s of big names telling us how liberating it is to no longer have one. Good thing I never figured out what mine would be, or I would have dozens of rainbow picture probs going to waste now.

If I look at my feed though I can´t help but notice that there is some repetition going on in my pictures. Not in terms of probs (I don´t use any) or background (most of the time it is my bathroom wall), but in terms of the things I take pictures of.

Because, believe it or not, the majority of my pictures is skincare routines. The real ones, the ones that I actually did put on my face, and as I am a huge fan of thoroughly testing a product, you will see the same pots and pumps over and over again. Boring? Maybe.

Inspired by YSL Solar Pop Collection Summer 2017

If you are not familiar with the „Inspired by…“ series, click here for an explanation.
But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.
Dressing up and awkward posing included!

The look that made the cut this time is effortless, summery, and (quite an exception this season) not featuring blue eyeshadow and orange lips. Not that I have any issues with that combo, I quite surprisingly really like it, but I have shown it here already and was up for some diversity.

According to Yves Saint Laurent, the YSL Solar Pop Collection is inspired by the vibrant colors and exotic adventure of a jungle safari, which took me by surprise. I did attribute solar pop to space adventures and Sci-Fi settings, but maybe that is just me? The promo picture though, a model casually leaning against a giant stone, palm leaves in the frame, does fit into the safari picture.

At least the kind of safari that you do in elegant clothes, wearing a full face of makeup. Probably the Glamping version of a safari, without the sweating and the dust and other things that inevitably would ruin your white silken blouse.

But enough with profane reality, let´s dive into the world of makeup, where anything is possible and wearable.

New in from pixi – The SEO dilemma

Did you know that less than a third of my readers are German? The majority comes from the UK and the US. That kind of puts me in a dilemma:

I have some brand new, sparkling things from pixi to share with you in todays video. But they are only new in Germany, the UK has had them for quite a while now.

So do I title this post: pixi new releases and risk people from the UK thinking it was a click bait? Or do I title it pixi new releases Germany, risking only a third of my readers will be remotely interested?

New In from pixi
New In from pixi

The difficulties of “having your target audience in mind”, always among the top three of those annoying “How to succeed in blogging” posts that never really seem to help. Wonder how I know? Because I click them every time. So much for “I only blog for the fun and don´t care about numbers” *cough*

Anyway, I decided to stick with New In from pixi as title. Should work well enough.

Taking out the trash XII – May 2017 Empties

There is a little devil inside me that wants everything to go as planned. Or, even more, to plan everything.

Of course I can hear all mums out there laughing at me, and I KNOW, you can´t plan anything when you have small children, as they will inevitably throw up/ a fit / the keys behind the cupboard when you are pressed for time. But I thought in my own little online bubble, things could be planned. Scheduled out nicely, prepared in advance, uploaded when it was meant to be uploaded.

May 2017 Empties

Like Empties posts, once every three months. One in March (see here) and the next one in June. Quarterly. But wait, is it June already? No. It isn´t.

The video that was supposed to go up instead wasn´t ready. Because my camera decided to throw up/ a fit/ the keys behind the cupboard. Isn´t it funny how electronics sometimes act like little children?

How to manage Blog, Kids and a full time job – my first ever Q + A

When this video goes live, it will be at the end of my holiday. One glorious week spend with Mr. Loca and the kids in Southern Germany, in Obersdorf to be precise. A proper family holiday with zero, and I repeat: ZERO blog work done.

My first ever Q+A – Grab some tea!

Ah, the irony! Because in the video, my first ever Q and A, I answer a few questions. No surprise here, this is the purpose of that kind of video after all. The main topic everyone seems to be interested in however is: How do you fit everything into 24 hours?

Spoiler alert: There is no secret. I simply invest every spare minute. Sounds hard? It is, but I found a quote that sums up my feelings in an obviously exaggerated way:

„Everyone must choose one of two pains: The pain of discipline or the pain of regret.“

Now I am not exactly sure if I will feel the same way after I get back from my break, but given that I am very disciplined (food being the main exception), chances are this will not be my last video.
