Do you remember the „Bag of Empties“ I showed you in a recent video? I have a similar one filled with new makeup goodies that I wanted to try on camera. It takes a lot of self-control not to just rip them open once I have them, but I really want to be more mindful about the things I own and use, so I made myself wait.
Until today: Time to dig into some fresh stuff. Live and on camera! KIKO is a brand I had on my mind quite some time already, and despite owning a few bits, I did not feel ready to form an opinion on the brand.
And we all know, having a proper opinion on a makeup brand is quite important.
pixi on the other hand is a brand that I have worked with before, and while I am excited by their skincare, the makeup I tried was nice, but not mind-blowing. And nice is never enough in this world of competitive makeup.
Something I realize now that the challenge is on the home stretch: I am an impatient person. The closer the end is, the more I want to be done with it.
Actually this realization isn´t that new, and may be contributing to the fact that I sometimes quit right before a task is 100% accomplished, simply because I can´t be bothered to spend any more time on it.
I was relieved to learn in one of my management courses that there is a name for this behavior and that it is, actually, a desirable feature.
How come, you ask? Please let me explain: When taking blog pictures, how often is the first one you take the only one? How often do you look at the screen and tell yourself: Yes, that one will do just fine?
As much as I would love to tell you that my current everyday makeup routine was inspired by the crisp white snow against the red berries on the ilex in our garden, it would be a lie.
I started wearing this makeup in early December, when the holidays rekindled my love affair with red lipsticks. Which is technically the second lie, as my love affair with red lipsticks does never need rekindling.
Around the holidays there was no snow to be seen. Just grey clouds heavy with rain and brown, rotting leaves. Not the prettiest colors to use as makeup inspiration.
It still may be a seasonal thing though, because the colors I picked are less warm than what I usually go for, and as I learned on other blogs throughout the last weeks, many people tend to go for cooler shades in the cold (see Dagmaras beautiful winter look for example).
I just realized I managed to write three blogpost about Diet Coke.
Three! In a row!
I guess this is an all time low, both for my nutrition and my writing.
So no more rambling about fizzy drinks, on to my next rant: Going gluten free.
As we enter week four of the challenge, it is time to focus on the gut. Beat the bloat is the title of the corresponding chapter, and while I wholeheartedly agree with the importance of healthy gut bacteria (great topic, I know), I am not a fan of cutting gluten out of your diet.
If you are not familiar with the „Inspired by…“ series, click here for an explanation.
But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.
Dressing up and awkward posing included!
Now if I have one beauty weakness… Other than red lipsticks, I mean. You can totally have two. Or maybe three.
But I digress. If I have one beauty weakness, it is anything in crayon form. My love affair with big chunky sticks started with the Clinique Chubby series a long time ago when I purchased the shade Mega Melon as a reminder of my one month road trip to Chile with Mr. Loca, and ever since I have happily collected crayons for every area of my face.
So the Chanel Rouge Crayon de Couleur Spring 2017 Collection promo picture immediately grabbed my attention. I mean, a lip crayon and a big, happy smile, what else do you need to get into spring mode?
We are way into week two already as I write this, but I won’t give anything away. This is about week one, and as much as I want to tell you all about my struggles, I will exercise self-control and stay true to the timeline.
This is about week one, and let me tell you, it was a hard week. At least for me. My mother wasn’t affected much. She has always been the one with the healthier eating habits.
But for me, everything Madeleine wrote about the withdrawal symptoms you could experience came true. Everything. Not that this should have surprised me, I knew I had fallen into some really bad eating habits when it came to snacking, but still. Feeling it is a whole new level of knowledge, I assure you.
2017, brand new and full of promises. And full of new discoveries, skincare and makeup wise I hope.
To be quite honest I don’t get the whole New Year New Me stuff, I like to make changes whenever I feel like doing them, not wait for a specific date. And my major changes have already happened, like going back to working full time, there is nothing that exciting in my near future.
So let´s take the time to look back and reflect on skincare, which is my favorite thing to do anyway.
