Taking out the trash VII – July 2016 Empties

After filming this months empties video I realized that I seem to have separation anxiety when it comes to lip products. I mean, seriously, a six year old lipgloss?

That is gross!

My July Empties
My July Empties

But no longer, four makeup items had to go, and I did finish some skincare as well.

So without further ado, my July 2016 Empties, along with mini reviews and, of course, bloopers at the end!

Please watch on YouTube and in HD for the ultimate viewing pleasure!

Products mentioned

Have you tried anything I mentioned before?

And have you ever found ancient makeup in your stash like I did?

  • I enjoyed watching this yesterday! It’s funny – 2011 doesn’t seem like that long ago but when you say 5 years ago, it really is a long time (especially where make-up is concerned!!) xx

Beautylymin| Abercrombie & Fitch First Instinct Giveaway

    • Yes, 2011 seems like yesterday. But the again I got a divorce, remarried and had two children in between, which is a lot of things to do in five years, so I guess it was quite some time ago.

      • Wow, that’s a lot to fit into five years! Exciting though! xx

        • Haha, yes. Now the move and then I need to slow down a little.

  • I always love listening to you pronouncing French names, you sound like French. Did you live in France?

I don’t think I have anything in my makeup collection that is older then 3 years, I just bin anything that is older then that, not taking chances of any irritations 🙂 x

    Mummy’s Beauty Corner

    • No, I never lived in France, but I do speak (a little) French and I usually spend my holidays there. I couldn’t do a beauty video in French, but it is sufficient to pronounce the names.

I don’t really bin makeup by the date, just by the appearance and smell. Probably careless, but so far (knock on wood) I had no side effects.

  • I couldn’t agree more about the Caudalie Eau de Beauté, I just don’t understand it! The other day I saw a girl at my local pharmacy panicking because all the french pharmacies were out of stock, I truly had to resist the temptation to tell her she could find something better elsewhere!

    • I guess some things are hyped because they are, well, hyped. No other reason than that.

  • Hahahaha. …i’m like that with lipsticks too but I am gradually learning my lesson ,so once it’s past the validity ,it goes in the trash . Great post.

    • To be honest, I cant really keep track when I opened what, so if it isn’t a LE, I am clueless most of the time. I usually go by smell and visual changes.

  • Pam Scalfi

I wanna try that body wash makeup remover! and yikes for funky smelling lip glosses! hahaha

  • I’ve been curious about the Caudalie products. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the cleanser and mist!

    • There are some others that read a little better when it comes to the ingredient list, I will keep finding the gems in that line.

  • I love your makeup in the video! I almost bought that facial spray numerous times and I’m glad I didn’t.

    Advaita | Blush Canvas

    • I had to have it, everyone seemed so in love with it. I just don’t get why!

  • i didn’t know it had a name! separation anxiety – thats something i’ve got as well haha. i love empties posts and videos, there’s something so satisfying about a product that’s been completely used up. arent the mac lipglasses very heavy and sticky?

    Life as Aditi

    • You see, I am 37. When I was young, lipgloss had the consistency of barely melted chewing gum, so that is what I compare a lip gloss too. And compared to that, the lip glasses aren’t heavy or sticky. But compared to the modern formulas, yes, there are many out there that are more lightweight.

  • I used to use Mask of Magnaminty all the time! Then I moved away from a Lush and the shipping was „meh“ for the handful of products I liked. I just recently tossed my MAC lippies from this same collection!

    • So glad I am not the only one that keep stuff that long! I still use my eyeshadows from that collection though.

  • Oh, empties, I like! This look is gorgeous and I hope you will recreate once again someday :)) It really suits you well.

Love how honest you are with your reviews! I really trust when you talk about products that you’ve gone back to using, I’ve been using the Body Shop Camomile cleansing oil for ages, but now I definitely want to get my hands on the eye and lip makeup remover. Love that you’re so loyal with your make up!

    • I just repurchased the Cleansing Oil. When I first used it I wasn’t overly impressed, but now that the weather is warmer, I was feeling it again.

  • I’ve had a huge clearout recently (our house has finally been refurbished so we can move in!!) and since I’m trying to live more minimalistically I’ve had to give much of my beauty stash away (mind you, they were brand new, because my allergies hardly let me experiment anyways..I also saved some for my giveaway this month!!) Anyways, I started to use lush magnaminty but started to break out so I’ve gone back to my trusty REN mask instead..

    • I much prefer the REN mask for my face as well, I just didn’t want to slather it all over my back, mainly because I felt like it would be a waste of money.
And moving was the reason for my clearout this time as well, I guess I would have kept them another year or longer if it wasn’t for the upcoming move.

  • Wow, I wouldn’t think Caudalie would use alcohol and perfume in their skincare! I make the mistake of never looking at the ingredients list, but I should definitely do it in the future to pick the right products.
I am sure I also have a few lipglosses dating back to years and years ago, but I’m afraid to check – we all buy products that we end up never using!

    • I was surprised by that as well, but it is there on the list bright and clear. They seem to have other, better products though.

  • Expiration dates are the main reason why I don’t hoard makeup. I can’t even remember the last time I finished a lipstick so I try not to own that many. Cool t-shirt!

  • This is so funny! I still have some from the Barbie for Mac collection… I actually threw some lipsticks as I was worried they were too old 😀

    • Oh, Barbie for MAC is even older! I usually don’t mind as long as they don’t look or smell funny, but these three definitely did.

  • When it’s on the sixth year, perhaps it is time to throw the lip gloss haha! MAC Prep + Prime finishes so quickly which is such a shame cause it’s great!

    • I can´t really say, as I never used it. Such a shame, but I don’t think i will risk repurchasing it.

  • I am guilty of having old makeup products too, but before moving I just thew away the ones that are old, I don’t know why I kept them for so long! I want to try Caudalie grape water, I hope it will be a good one!

    Ela BellaWorld

    • The Grape Water is on my list as well, I will pick it up in September I think.
And nothing like a move to get you started on the decluttering front!

  • Rosanna Briguglio

I try to get rid of old products as much as I can but I am guilty of hanging onto things for sentimental reasons!

  • I really need to go through my skincare and makeup products, in fact maybe I should put a label on them with the date of purchase in future!

    • I am pretty good with skincare, but not with makeup. Labelling them would be a great idea.

  • I’m so guilty of keeping old beauty products. When I was doing a major clear out a few months ago, I discovered an ancient eye shadow palette. I knew it would be too old to use but I had a tough time saying goodbye.

  • Oh that Lush mask actually sounds really good! I don’t mind peppermint 🙂 I seem to be continuing my streak of being pretty lucky skin-wise post baby, but with hormones that can all change again haha! I’m wanting to get back into using masks again, it’s hard finding time with baby though, maybe I need to try something like the bodyshop one that you can just leave on, so it doesn’t matter if baby wakes up and gets me out of the bathroom.

    Away From The Blue Blog

    • It is perfect for these times. You just slap it on and be done with it, no matter what happens next. The LUSH mask will not be as perfect for that, you can´t really move much with it on, it is a horrible mess.

  • Don’t feel too bad- I think most of us have been guilty of hoarding our cosmetics, especially if it’s a product we feel guilty about barely using! lol It was rather cathartic seeing all of the stuff you got rid of, though. I might need to rummage around my own stash later, just in case I am lugging around my own dead weight.

Also, you look gorgeous in this video! It’s a shame that your first recording session went undocumented, but I don’t blame you at all for not wanting to go through the trouble of re-filming.

  • I have not tried any of these, but I do want to try the sleeping mask. I usually stick to rosewater for a facial spritzer, it’s natural and works well as a setting mist for my makeup as well. Thanks for sharing the video./Madison
    FASHION TALES

    • I have never tried rosewater. Isn’t it pretty high in alcohol? Or how is to preserved?

      • No, not at all because. I use all-natural rosewater, simply with rose (flower oil). There are some brands that put alcohol in their rosewater mists, but I just make my own or buy all-natural. Rosewater has natural healing properties and good for me since I have sensitive skin. I’d suggest Heritage brand or my favourite rosewater by Mymoune is also good. There are also several others without alcohol.

        • What do they use to preserve it then?

          • It’s distilled! Distilled water is used, otherwise to preserve it as some brands do, that’s when they will use alcohol, witch hazel or vodka if making it yourself.

          • Ah, thank you.

    • Such a waste of money… I really should have tried it at last a few times, to see if I get on with it.

  • I have serious separation anxiety when it comes to ALL my products… six-year-old lipgloss sounds pretty fresh to me :-))))

    • What do you like from Caudalie? Those two products were a complete miss.

  • A great review. I have the Caudalie product too which was gifted to me at Christmas and I absolutely agreed with the alcohol product, why on earth would you put so much alcohol in a face product, it’s ageing! Would you use it for anything else?

When it comes to skincare go fragrance free as much as possible and alcohol free, skincare is meant to hydrate not dehydrate!
