The exception from the rule – Collective Haul

I have mentioned several times before, I put myself on a spending ban when the Little Bean was born.

That was how I imagined it to be.

The reasons were various:
I own so much makeup, I could probably go for two years straight without the need to buy something new.
I have a bathroom cabinet dedicated to unused skincare I really wanted to try.
I wanted to get use out of the products I really love, instead of hoarding them until they were far beyond expiration date and went to the bin almost unused.
I wanted to cut back on my expenses. Going from „Double Income, No Kids“ to me staying at home for one year had a major impact on the bank balance, and I wanted to save up for our family adventure in New Zealand.
And last but not least, I wanted to get more sensible with spending in general. Like, looking what I really want, not buying red lipstick number eight, just because I saw it at the drugstore.

I am proud to say it didn’t go too bad.
But of course, there are exceptions from every rule.
Let me introduce you to the biggest ones yet: New Zealand, Singapore and my birthday!

Birthday Goodies

Lets do the birthday stuff first.
Technically, not everything was a birthday present. The lipstick and the palette were given to me by my wonderful friend Pia just because.
But as they were a gift, it felt right to include them into the birthday part.

1. Skincare:
Last time I was at my parents, I carefully instructed my mother and sister on the different skincare lines The Body Shop offers and which sound promising enough for me to keep them on my wishlist. They got the not so subtle hint and I will soon be testing:
– Camomile Cleansing Balm
– Nutriganics Drops of Youth Youth Enhancing Concentrate (yes, this is double youth in there)
– Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask
– Drops of Youth Eye Serum

2. Makeup:
– Clinique Chubby Stick for eyes in „Bountiful Beige“
– Lipstick Queen lipstick in „Saint Coral“ (read the explanation on Sinner and Saint over at Eyespaintedblack)
– Revolution Redemption Palette Iconic 3, which is said to be a dupe for the Naked 3

Heading over to New Zealand:
I HAD to get some Antipodes skincare while there, because they are a NZ based brand I had never tried before and finally could get my hands on, and while I was browsing a Revlon counter, it came to my notice they had a GWP including eyeshadow, a lipstick, a mascara and a nail polish. It would have been a sin to pass on that, since we don’t have Revlon here in Germany anyway.

Antipodes Joyous Serum, Divine face Oil, Hosanna Serum and Aura Manuka Honey Mask

1. Skincare:
– Joyous Protein-Rich Night Replenish Serum, packed with antioxidants
– Divine Face Oil Organic Avocado Oil & Rosehip, aimed at scars and breakouts
– Hosanna H2O Intensive Skin-Plumping Serum, meant for hydration (obviously)
– Aura Manuka Honey Mask, for dehydrated, blemish-prone skin

Left to right: Kissable Pink LS, Cherrys in the Snow LS, Really Red LS, Impressionist ES Palette, Bewitching NP, Colorburst Matte Balm in Striking, Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Fair, Photoready 3D Volume Mascara in Black

2. Makeup:
– Lipstick 805 „Kissable Pink“ (Shine): GWP, as I usually don’t gravitate towards light pinks
– Lipstick 440 „Cherries in the Snow“ (Crème): Sat on my wishlist for almost two years.
– Lipstick 006 „Really Red“ (Matte): You remember me saying I own to many red lipsticks?
– Colorburst Matte Balm 240 „Striking“: Red in matte and as crayon. I think I have a problem.
– Eyeshadow palette 505 „Impressionist“: GWP, I don’t really like palettes, but the colors seem nice.
– Nailpolish 620 „Bewitching“: GWP. I have never heard about Revlon nail polishes before.
– Photoready 3D Volume Mascara in 001 „Blackest Black“: GWP. Volume sounds good.
– Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 1 „Fair“: Recommended by The Painted Rogue. She knows where the best loot is.

Last stop Singapore:
You can’t be a You Tube lover without hearing about sheet masks. Of course, they are available via the World Wide Web, but buying them hands on in a supermarket has a whole different level of satisfaction to offer.
Looking back, I might have gone a little overboard. Expect me to look like I just stepped out of a horror movie at least five evenings a week.
And maybe I was thoughtful enough to stock up for a little giveaway coming soon.

So many Sheet Masks! And a 100 ml Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair II

The Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair II (Review here) finally was a necessity, as my last one has just a few drops left and you can get the 100 ml bottle as a travel exclusive only.
But I have to admit, I had a hard time convincing Mr. Loca that this time I was actually saving money.

I think it is safe to say that when it comes to breaking the rules, my motto is „Go big or go home!“.

What was your last splurge?
Any thoughts on the items I purchased?

  • Go Big or Go Home? I like that! I love everything you got and a variety of things you have! I am so glad you were able to find a Revlon counter. I still find it crazy that Revlon is not available in Germany!

I read good things about the Collection products on British Blog, so I hope that concealer works for you! I know I said it earlier, but there is something special about buying new things while travelling! Last time I was in Poland I bought a bunch of things too and they are very precious to me, especially since most of them were picked out with my mom.

And I am looking forward to that giveaway 😛

  • Nice! You went all out, haha 🙂 If you break the rules you better break 'em GOOD, right?

  • Naomi

Oh wow! So many great items haha. I recently bought a few new Mac lipsticks but that's about it. Trying to contain myself. x – Naomi in Wonderland

  • Wow, what an amazing haul! I love the Estée Lauder ANR and I'm really keen to try the Antipodes range, especially the vanilla pod moisturiser. Looking forward to reviews on all these lovely items! 🙂 x

  • First of all, I am so clueless, all this while I thought you're located in the UK only to read you're actually in Germany and wow, no Revlon in Germany? I learn something new every day.

This post is filled with so many amazing products and gosh, I would have gone absolutely bonkers testing everything. LOL! I have always wanted to try Lipstick Queen so I look forward to read your thoughts on it. I've seen the brand Antipodes being sold in Malaysia but it was just too pricey for me back then but will again look out for your review on them.

  • wow nice haul

    http://www.crazyaboutcolors.com

  • Yes, they sit well among my other reds…
Cherrys in the Snow was the one I wanted for several years. Let´s see if I am brave enough to rock it.
Do you have a color scheme?

  • I hope everything is!
Thank you, have a nice weekend, too.
    Any fun plans?

  • What is your favorite sheet mask then? Am I talking to an expert? Please say yes! I basically grabbed everything I saw in the store.

  • Common mistake, as I write in english.
Sadly, several drugstore brands that are available in other European countries are not sold here. And we don't have Sephora, which is the worst.

I thought Antipodes would be very expensive, but somehow it wasn't. If that is because I bought it in NZ or because my definition of pricey has changed… Maybe a bit of both.

What product are you most interested in?

  • I didn't get the Vanilla Pod moisturizer, because I read mixed reviews on it.
Is Antipodes expensive in the UK?

  • Oh, which colors did you get? I love MAC lipsticks.

  • Better make it a haul to remember. And then finish off by drinking an evening tea at noon. We are living life on the edge!

  • Yes, makeup and memories make a great connection!
The Painted Rogue declared the Concealer was her one holy grail product in your Beauty influencers Column, so I had to get it while I had the chance.

Have you ever tried sheet masks before?

  • LOL! Yeah, we are such daredevils!

Didn't you once say you didn't have a sense of humor or something? 🙂 Girl, I love you, I totally giggled at this 🙂

  • That poor lonely MAC lipstick, haha! Wow, you got some amazing picks – love Antipodes… and I would love to get my hands on some sheet masks! Great haul 🙂

  • Oh I need that 100ml bottle of ANR so bad! I actually like the Antipodes Aura mask, although admittedly not everything I've tried is a hit. Now come to think of it, I might want to finally write about it because it's been sitting on my to-review list for a LONG time now 😉

  • Kavita

I love the revlon crayon colour burst, it's my favourite and I have all of them. Will have to try the palette. Lovely choice.

  • Must have been the lack of sleep.

  • Well, than stay tuned for my giveaway.
Which is your favorite Antipode product? Have you tried any of these?

  • My t-review list keeps getting longer and longer, too. But especially with skincare, you have to test them properly, so it takes so long!
How do you manage to post daily while still working? I feline I am never getting anywhere with all my lists…

  • All of the Color Bursts? That is quite a collection. Are they all equal in pigmentation/formula or do you find them to differ?

  • Hi Linda ,I have used sheet mask from asian brand called dr.moritta ….and loved it so much …I really dont know what it is but ease ofuse is what i like it 🙂
i havent used anything from sephora yet because i dont have access to those…but my friend recently picked these green tea ,promagrante mask which she really raves about 🙂

  • Ah, yes, the Sephora ones, I remember reading about them online. I have no access to Sephora neither. Unfair, isn't it?

  • Love the haul Anne! What no Revlon?! But I'm glad you picked out Cherries in the Snow, such a lovely shade!
I'm looking forward to all the skincare reviews, especially face masks! I love using them after a cleansing mask. 🙂

  • Does it? Here I pretty much only hear good things about it. Antipodes is fairly pricey here but not too bad… I'd say maybe like Clarins? The vanilla pod moisturiser is about £32 I think. 🙂

  • That sounds fair. Will you do a review on the moisturizer?

  • I love this camomile cleansing butter! This post reminded me to buy it again haha! 🙂

    http://www.anacelinelabod.com

  • I almost chickened out when I saw it in person! It was way brighter than I had thought, but I had wanted it ever since I saw it on essiebutton in a video almost two years ago, and i would have regretted not buying it.
Now I just have to muster the courage to actually wear it…
Is Revlon easily available in India?

  • Doesn't it alway work that way?
What have you been using instead?

  • Lucky you!! You have a lovely makeup collection and hope you had a lovely bday 🙂

P.s have you entered my #geekgirl giveaway?

  • Ha so this takes some organization skills and maybe lack of a kid… I try to do a big batch of photos, move those products to the to-test line, and do face shots with the pieces that work together. When I can, I schedule a couple more posts ahead of time as well. It's not easy, but it's still a lot of fun so I'm still doing it!

  • I intend as soon as I buy it. Not sure when that will be, though, as I'm trying to use up my current moisturisers first. X

  • My last splurge was last month! I can't even remember what I got. My husband and I are moving this summer, and we are now on a tight savings budget, so I am not going to buy any more makeup until we are settled in with new jobs (and I'll be going back to school). Fortunately, I'm like you, and I have makeup stored up that will last me…. for years. Lol.

    xx

  • Oh, exciting!
Where are you moving to? And what are you going back to school for?

  • I had a lovely birthday indeed, spending it far away from home.
What do you have more than enough of in your collection?

  • Scheduling ahead is key. I try to have a bout a month scheduled in advance, and have about three months of posts planned, but the writing still takes me so long.
And the Little Bean of course, she needs a lot of attention, so I only get to write/reply when she is asleep.
But you are right, it is a lot of fun!

  • Very sensible.

  • wow! Amazing haul! i am loving the Revolution palette!
    🙂

  • I love the Chubby sticks for eyes (I have Whopping Willow) 🙂 I don't blame you for splurging in Singapore I'd love to try out those sheet masks too! 🙂

  • Wenn ich mal wieder die Gelegenheit habe, irgendwie an das gute Teil heranzukommen, dann werde ich ihn auf jeden Fall nachkaufen!

  • Es ist so schade, dass man so viele Sachen hier nicht bekommt.

  • Jaa

Lots of goodies here! I need to look for that giant bottle of EL ANR! Can't live without it! 🙂 I'm just starting into using face masks so I am looking forward to your reviews. I love my UD Naked3 so so much so you bet I'll look around to see if I can get my greedy hands on that Revolution Redemption Palette Iconic 3!!!

  • You can get the 100 ml as an travel exclusive, so keep an eye out for it when you´re at the airport next time.
It is a steal compared to the smaller ones!

  • Say Cheesy Cake

Are the Antipodes good? I saw them in London but didn't know if they were worth the money. I tent to think a lot before I decide on splurging. hahaha. Great haul Anne.

  • There are so many pretty lipsticks in here :O I want to see them all 😀 hahah. Thanks for the mention, btw 🙂 xx

  • You are welcome. I´ll have them up soon. Very pretty colors!
