The one thing I like the most about flying is Duty-free. I will show up on the airport bright and early, not because I am worried about missing my flight, but because I like to spend hours wandering the stores.
The Travel Exclusives almost always suck me in. I love a good bargain, and I really believe that most of them are hidden treasures just waiting to be discovered.
This time, the Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfectors made it into my basket. I have been eyeing them for quite a while, but could never justify 17,50 € for a lip gloss.
As a Travel Set on the other hand, containing two shades for 24 €, it would have been a waste of money not to buy them. At least in my world…
The lip perfectors are 12 ml each and come in six different shades: Rose, apricot, nude, petal, candy and rosewood shimmer. I got shade 01 “rose shimmer” and 02 “apricot shimmer”.
Clarins says: “The ideal lip perfector for smooth, perfectly shaped lips with subtle, natural color. A soft gel formula that nourishes, repairs and protects. Day after day, lips are visibly more beautiful.”
The squeezy tube is the same color as the gloss, with a golden cap on one end, looking very sophisticated. Removed, the cap reveals a sponge tip applicator with little holes through which the gloss comes out once you squeeze, forming adorable little bubbles that never fail to make me smile.
My lips are quite pigmented, and the color is really sheer, so I don’t notice much difference in color when applied. In fact, none at all…
Please excuse the crappy lighting in these pictures, I have been desperately trying to get some sunshine to take better pictures, but it just keeps on raining.
The difference in texture on the other hand is stunning: Juicy, fresh, moisturized, plump, you name it.
And the smell… Cotton Candy at its best. I struggle not to lick it off my lips the minute I applied it because it smells (and tastes) so delicious. But even if I succeed, the lasting power isn’t great. I can see them for about two hours if I stay away from food or drinks (quite a challenge for me…), but they are by no means long-lasting. The moisturized feeling however stays after the color has already faded.
During my holiday in France I really put them to the test, as I forgot to pack my lip balm and went for the whole wind, sun, beach and diving routine, usually a safe bet for chapped lips. Not this time, Clarins kept them moisturized and soft.
Will I repurchase?
No. As much as I enjoy using them, they are just sheer lip balms without much of a color payoff on my lips. And even though the smell (ah, the smell…) and the nourishment is great, in my opinion they just don’t justify the splurge. Not even in a Travel Exclusive…
