The weather in Germany took the transition to fall very seriously. Within 24 hours we went from 32 °C and sun to heavy rain, wind and mornings with 6 °C.
Needless to say I was busy changing summer bedding to thick duvets, frantically searching for the kids rain boots and getting my skincare routine in order.
Yes, I updated my skincare routine before I even updated my wardrobe (I still have my boots stored away), because #priorities.

Change your cleanser
The cold and the wind will inevitably lead to dehydration, so make sure to switch your purifying cleansers for something more nourishing.
(Re)introduce the acids
Many people stop using chemical exfoliants or retinol throughout the summer months, and I totally get the reasoning. Increased sun sensitivity is nothing to be taken lightly.
Now though, as your beach days are behind you, make sure to reintroduce them. Summer has left most skins congested and dull, so in order to get back the glow, exfoliation is key! For my acne prone skin the Instytutum Triple Action Resurfacing Peel* (Review) is a perfect weekly treat, but depending on your skin type lactic or mandelic acid might work better.
Address the hyperpigmentation
Sun spots, melasma, tan fading unevenly – there are many reasons for looking patchy. And while exfoliation (see above) will help with that, now is the perfect time for a more targeted treatment round. No skincare product will completely get rid of hyperpigmentation, but with the combined effort of acids, retinol, Arbutin and Vitamin C (not everything at once though!) you will at least be able to lighten it significantly.
I love the Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic Acid + Retinol Brightening Solution (Review) for that, but as it is very pricey there is an The Ordinary Alpha-Arbutin.
With Vitamin C I enjoy the (recently rebranded) Instytutum Anti-Wrinkle Brightening C-Erum* (original Review), but was equally satisfied with the klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drops* (Review) that are a fraction of the price.
Switch to a richer moisturizer
Or, in my case, introduce a moisturizer. When it is hot outside, my SPF is all I need on my face, but with the colder weather and the wind I make sure to strengthen my skins barrier by providing more emollients and occlusives (Confused about the difference? I explain it here).
La Roche Posay Redermic C (Review) is still lightweight and offers a dose of Vitamin C, but if you´re more oily, maybe the pixi Rose Caviar Essence* (Review) is better suited to your needs, or, if you are on the drier side, a richer cream will work.
Ditch the clay masks
I have been using clay masks almost exclusively for the last few months, but recommend opting for hydration and maybe brightening in fall. The klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Face Mask* (Review) offers both, leaving my skin soft and supple after every use.
