Inspired by… Artdeco „Majestic Beauty“ Fall 2014

If you are not familiar with the „Inspired by…“ series, click here for an explanation.

But short story even shorter, each month I choose a seasonal ad and try to recreate the models look with colors I already own.
Dressing up and awkward posing included!

And even though summer has just yet started,it is time for the autumnal collections now. I got so excited browsing the pictures of smokey eye and berry lips that it must somehow evaded my attention  that the collection I chose was from 2014 already…

Artdeco „Majestic Beauty“ Fall 2014
But as I love it (and it is way to late to shoot another look), here is my take on Artdecos „Majestic Beauty“ Collection Fall 2014.

Once again, no Photoshop (or lip injections), so I look quite different to the model.

Purple smokey eyes and a red lip
Many fall collections are a lot richer than the easy, light summer makeup, and this one is no exception. A purple smokey eye is paired with a red lip and a heavy contour that somehow doesn’t show as much as intended in my version.
Here is a close-up of the eyes:
Purple smokey eyes
How I did my base:
A flawless face with a heavy contour and highlight, not as dewy as the summer looks, but with a velvet finish I really like.
But I had problem: I don’t own any high coverage foundations anymore.
So I went in with the MAC Concealer Palette to really cover up any imperfections and at the same time use the yellow shade as a cream highlight. To even out the complexion and to blend everything in Laura Merciers Tinted Moisturizer was dabbed on with a beauty blender and everything set in place with IsaDora Velvet Touch powder.
To work out the contour some more I used The Body Shop Honey Bronze on the hollows of my cheek and MAC Beauty Powder in Shell Pearl on the high points of my face.
Sadly everything looks a little washed out in the picture, if you follow me on Instagram you would have seen another shot that showed the contour much better.
Products used as a base
– MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette in „Light“ (Review here)
– Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil Free in „Nude“ (Review here)
– IsaDora Velvet Touch Compact Powder in „Light Beige“ (Review here)
– The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzer in 02 (Review here)
– MAC Beauty Powder in „Shell Pearl“
How I did my eyes and lips:
The grey toned purple smokey eyes had me bust out my mixing skills again.
My purple eyeshadow was too bright, so I toned it down using NYX Jumbo Pencil as a black base and smudged it into the lower lash line with a dark brown eyeshadow, all finished with heavy coating of Revlons mascara.
On my lips I used a brick red lipstick by Lancome I bought ages ago, but rarely wear because it moves on my lips like nobody business.
I have quite a collection of warm reds, but this one came the closest, despite still being a little too light.
Products used on eyes and lips
– NYX Jumbo Pencil in  (no review, but creases on me)
– MAC Veluxe Pearl eyeshadow in „Semi-Precious“ (Swatched here)
– MAC single eyeshadows in „Naked Lunch“, „Cross-cultural“, „Showstopper“ (Swatched here)
– Revlon Photoready 3D Volume Mascara in „Black“ (Review here)
– Lancome Lipstick in a brick red, bought more than six years ago, name or number has rubbed off
So it is your turn:
What are you most excited about come fall?
And would you wear a purple smokey eye with a red lip?

  • Where's the hand resting on the tata? 😉 Great copy, it's a lovely look, you wear red lips so well.

  • beautiful collection!

  • What a beautiful look!
I tend to stick with neutral eyeshadows, sometimes a bit of green if I want some colour. I'm always a fan of a red lip. It took me a few years after starting to wear makeup to feel comfortable wearing red lipstick. Now it's my go to colour.

  • Yes, I loved the picture too.

  • It was there, I even painted my nail deep red and then it was out of focus… I´ll tweet you the original picture for proof in a minute.

  • Beautiful, I always love fall collections with darker smokey colors. Purple and red actually go together really well. I remember when i first saw Karen from MBB wearing that combo and I loved it. It really works! I only wish red lips looked as good on me as they look on you!

  • Karen can make anything work!

The last time I saw you wearing a red lip I really liked it. It looks lovely on you as long as you feel comfortable wearing it.

  • Beautiful makeup. Love your lip color and eye shadow look.:)

  • abbie jade

I love the shade of lipstick:)

  • I hate it when my pictures get washed out, it happens to me a lot and it's frustrating. I saw your picture on IG and it was stunning! I never use purple eyeshadows before, definitely something interesting for me to try. Btw, you did another great job at replicating the look, stunning!

Wow, I loved this series, then, the Inspired by! I think your makeup looks very similar if not exactly the same, as the model is wearing! You look really beautiful, I loved the eyeshadow and lipstick! When I lived in Germany I used to buy ArtDeco so much! I really like the brand!

  • Thank you. Would you wear purple shadow and a red lip?

  • Yes, but is such a pain to wear, slides around my face and transfers everywhere.

  • Thank you Shireen. I really have to figure out the lighting soon. Right now I use natural light and that happens a lot. I need to invest in some lights, I guess, especially for the upcoming autumn and winter.

  • Thank you Jenessa. Do you wear colorful makeup?

  • I wouldn't have thought of pairing it myself, but I really liked how it turned out. Did you wear something similar before?

  • I don't own much of Artdeco, but my BFF loves it.
You lived in Germany? Tell me about it! When, where and why?

Oh, many many years in Hanover, to take masters at the university! There are some products I only find there and I miss Galleria Kaufhof, for example 🙂 Or Douglas!

  • Another wonderfully recreated look – you've worked such a perfect purple smokey eye!

  • beautiful make-up! Yes, I would totally wear a purple smokey eye but I'd pick a more brown-based red, a brick red. So the focus would totally be on my eyes 🙂

  • Well, you have Sephora now, so I guess you win some, you loose some.

  • I usually focus on one part of my face, too, but in fall everything seem stop be a little richer than usual. Any brick red lipstick you can recommend?

  • Aw, you are welcome. Your blog is always a pleasure to read.

  • What color are your eyes? I am guessing brown from the pictures I saw?
Purple really is very versatile, but many people seem to be afraid to wear it.

  • Thank you.

  • I bet it would look very nice on you, too. Have you ever tried something similar?

    Wow gorgeous makeup, looks lovely!

I have a new post up on the blog, would love to know your thoughts:

  • I can't say I have, I don't experiment much with my makeup but blogging has certainly opened my mind to there being other options (such as this post!) 🙂

  • You always look so classic and glamorous! The purple adds a touch of fun while staying sophisticated.

  • idu

You do an amazing job of recreating looks. I love a smokey eye so much and I love this look, so fab!

  • I bet you love a purple eye, purple seem to be your everything, and you always look so great wearing it.

  • You should have seen me before, not much glamour around here on a usual day… What is your favorite smokey eye color?

  • I am far from being a pro, just an enthusiastic amateur, but thank you. What do you like most about fall?

  • I am still on the hunt for the perfect berry lip. Any recommendations?

  • Thank you. I could point out at least ten mistakes on top of my head, but we always are our worst critic, aren't we?

  • Thank you, Helen.

  • And I learn a ton about fashion that way. Blogging is a great way to think outside the box.

  • I like to go classic (black and grey) but I also like doing olive green now and again!

  • I bet olive green and gold looks amazing on you.

  • Kate

Actually the two I have are from a very cheap brand called Natural Collection which you can get from Boots here in the UK. They're about £1.99 each but the quality is great! One is called Cranberry and one Raspberry. X

  • Hm, I will have to check them out online. At least Boots ships to Germany.

    Escellent makeup!!

  • Wow Linda, you look gorgeous as usual!
Yes you may look different at the model you're trying to copy the looks, but you still did a great job doing your way.

Haven't tried a purple eye makeup with a red lipstick yet, but if I'm on the mood, why not 🙂

    Jhem |

  • Gorgeous! Love that red lip on you!

  • If you contoured your cheek bones like the model (she has loads of contouring done to her face in the photo) you would be extremely close to the actual photo!!

  • Thank you. I do love my red lips (as you know).

  • Thank you. Do you wear smokey eyes?

  • Thank you Hadas.

  • Jaa

Yet another successful recreation, Anne! I love your interpretation! I'm pretty sure the model has a lot of Photoshop work done to enhance every part of her face. Yours is more real, more relatable! <3

  • No, unfortunately I don't how, I tried before but I failed :))

  • There are a lot of great tutorials on You Tube for every eyeshade. That way I learned how to do mine.

  • Words of comfort, hm? It is all about the fun in the end, and about playing with makeup. I would never have thought of this combination myself.

  • Gorgeous! You've got that super model look down pat! Also, your blending skills ..*sigh* #envy

  • I think you look great without the contour showing though! Contouring is so overrated now and shouldn't be used on a day to day basis. What do you think?

  • Love the contour, lip color and those lashes amazing! X

  • Such a classic look – I love this on you. This is definitely my favourite of all your recent looks. Very Robert Palmer's Addicted to Love video! x

  • I dont contour every day, I agree, that is too much. I save it for special nights out or makeup on the blog. The lights wash you out otherwise. How about you?

  • If I contour I would look like a skeleton! LOL

  • It is all about the shadows you choose, not the blending skills, believe me. This MAC shadow is a dream to blend.

  • Yes, the look was very inspiring.

  • Yes, very Eighties. I loved it back then, but was a little too small to wear makeup in 1986…

  • Not a good look, I agree.

  • That red is so stunning on you! Love this look a lot and it looks so wearable!

  • It was last years, I got confused with the dates when picking the looks for this post. But the look is dupable.

  • With the heavy contour it was much less wearable, but the purple eyes and red lips went together far better than I´d have imagined.
And yes, the red looks great, but it is such a hassle to wear!

  • Such a beautiful look – you look lovely! 🙂

    Layla xx

  • Thank you Sarah, that was too kind.

  • Thank you, layla. Although I am not ready for autumn yet.
