Today I am introducing a little series I want to incorporate: The „Inspired by…“ posts.
There are so many collections every season, so many pretty ads and stunning models, urging you to dash out and buy the latest products.
But I know not everyone (me included) can afford to spend that much money, so „Shop my stash“ is a great alternative. Especially if you already have a humongous decent collection.
One thing I have been doing lately is to try and recreate looks I loved using the products I already own.
This is the perfect opportunity to rediscover forgotten gems, but also reveals what you really are missing in your collection.
|BABOR Fall/Winter 2014|
My first attempt was the festive Fall/Winter Look by BABOR.
(Please do excuse my awkward posing, I am still struggling with my camera/lighting and taking selfies. Tips are highly appreciated!)
Here is how it translated on me:
Even though the focus of the look, the eyes were surprisingly easy.
I used NYX Jumbo eyeshadow pencil in „Black Bean“ all over the lid and put the pigment „Gold Stroke“ by MAC (Fabolous Felines Collection 2010, LE) on top with a wet eyeshadow brush.
Unfortunately I had no black eyeshadow to set „Black Bean“ and had to apply quite a thick layer, so it almost instantly started creasing on me.
No liner except tight-lining the upper waterline and loads of mascara (L´Oréal Paris False Lash Flutter, review here), and the eyes were done.

On the lips the model was wearing a matte red color, and as I don’t own any matte red lipstick (shocking, I know), I went for a lipliner (KIKO Lip Pencil in 306), well blended with my fingers.

Here are the products I used on eyes and lips.
Not mentioned above, but on the picture are Alverde Eyebrow Powder (for my eyebrows, obviously) and Maybelline Black Liner (for tight-lining).

Most time was spend on the skin. The model has a gorgeous highlighted face without any obvious shimmer and just a subtle contour.
I went for MAC BB Cream in „Light“, just because it is the lightest shade I own, powdered down by Maybelline „The Matte Maker“.
To highlight the center of my face, I went back in with the lightest shade of my MAC Concealer Palette, which was also used to cover up my dark circles and blemishes.
My go-to contour MAC „Harmony“ Powder Blush was put under the cheekbone and around hair and jawline, and a tiny dab of Bobby Browns Shimmer Brick in „Beige“ on the bridge of my nose.
Getting the blush right was tricky.
I ended up mixing the Essence Cream Blush in „Go, Gerania“ (Guerilla Gardening LE 2013) with MACs Powder Blush in „Fleet Fast“ (Hey, Sailor LE 2012), as I don’t own a similar shade.
Looking at the pictures, I think neither the color nor the blush placement go well with my face.

Overall I have to say I don’t think the look suits me very well.
Next time I would go for a slightly winged out eye shape, another blush and most likely a nude lip.
The highlighted skin and the gold on black eyeshadow on the other hand will definitely be practiced for the upcoming party season.
How do you like this kind of post?
And is this a look you would recreate? If you do so, please tweet me a picture (@LindaLibraLoca) or tag me in your instagram pictures (@lindalibraloca).
And as I now know that I need a black matte eyeshadow in my life: Any recommendations?
