I only started to get into hiking (real hiking, mountains and tents included) when I was 30 already. Coincidently my love of makeup, You Tube and blogs really flared up at the same time, putting me in some serious inner conflict.
You see, if you are going for a hike with three nights in a tent, you will not want to add a makeup bag to the things you carry with you day in and day out. But if his hike is with the newly met love of your life and your lashes are blonde from about midway to the tips, mascara seems non-negotiable.
The solution? I booked an appointment for lash tint and lash lift two days before we flew out to Chile to do the W-circuit in Torres del Paine.
Now it will be some time before I do something similar again, but I still don’t want to be bothered with mascara before going to the beach every day on a holiday. And my last lash lift and tint happened somewhere in 2012, so when I got send the Manhattan Supreme Lash Volume Colourist Mascara (*PR-sample), claiming to tint your lashes within two weeks of daily use, I was more than willing to put it to the test.
What Manhattan claims:
Tints lashes gradually darker with every application (visible results after two weeks of daily application). Instantly gives volume and length while being pitch black.
Prize and size
One tube contains 11 ml of product and retails for 5,95 € here. I have only used it for four weeks now, and so far there is no sign of it drying out. The wand is slightly tapered.
Texture and smell
No smell and a formula that is more on the wet side, which I personally prefer. I didn’t find this mascara needed some drying down.
Application and effects
Upon application I experienced the tiniest tickling, but I think that was not the product itself, but the bristles. It did not linger and I have had the same experience with similar wands.
The mascara itself applies very nicely, giving my lashes a separated and natural look. Less drama than I love, but very nice for everyday. See for yourself:
Of course, the most important question: Did it tint my lashes?
Yes, it did. My lashes went from blonde at the tips to darker. Not black, more of a light brown, but it made them a little more noticeable. The effect is very subtle and nowhere near a lash tint, but it is noticeable in person. I struggled with capturing it with the camera though.
The tint lasted after I stopped applying the mascara, and while it may have faded a little over time, I can still see it after another two weeks, so I guess it is permanent until your lashes fall out.
Does it live up to its claims?
It tinted my lashes and it applied instantly pitch-black while adding volume and length. In a very natural way.
Will I rebuy?
I do enjoy the effect, especially with a beach holiday coming up, but I want drama on my lashes everyday. Now I could layer it, to get the best of both worlds, but I am too lazy to do that regularly. Still undecided what matters more.
Who do I recommend it to?
If a lash tint is out of your price range, that one is a great budget alternative.
If your lashes are very light and you want to have them darker without the hassle, this one is perfect.
If you are looking for a natural drugstore mascara, I couldn’t recommend that enough.
In fact, I think this is perfect for my sister, who wants a natural look everyday and who’s lashes are even lighter than mine.
