Maybelline Matte Maker – shine control ahead

I hereby declare my never ending love for a matte base.
It might be because I still am stuck in the eighties, when everything was powdered like there was no tomorrow, or because I have been shiny all my life.
Growing up with an oily, acne prone skin, with hair that would be greasy three hours after washing it, I have had my fair share of glow.
Seriously, why would anyone ever want to be 16 again?

Maybelline Matte Maker in “Light Beige”

So it comes as no surprise I had to get my hands on a product called “Matte Maker”.

Of course, now that I am out of puberty things aren’t quite as dramatic, but I honestly never experienced a day in my life where I looked into a mirror and thought: “Boy, my skin looks dull today.”
Pale, sick, I know all that, but even after countless nights with four hours of sleep there was always a “healthy glow” on my face.
And this is why my highlighters gather dust while my powders are the products I hit pan on.

What Maybelline claims:
For an even matte finish, absorbing access oil throughout the day without dehydrating the skin (..) feels lightweight.

Facts:
The “Matte Maker” comes in four different shades: “Light Beige”, “Nude Beige”, “Amber Beige” and “Sun Beige”. As the addition “Beige” suggests, they are all neutral to warm-toned.
It contains 16g of product and retails for 4,35 € here.
There is Talc and Mineral Oil included, which breaks some people out, as well as Titanium Dioxide, a physical sunscreen that can flash back in pictures.

On to pictures:
1. Just base, no powder. (On my face Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, review here)

Shine all over the face

2. Face powdered

That is how I like my base!

3. After a four hours of wear:
A little shiny in my T-Zone and cheekbones. And as I like it matte, I would reapply at this point.

After four hours of wear

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes.
It gives me an even, matte finish and it feels lightweight.
Whether it absorbs access oil throughout the day or not, who knows? I have to touch up after a few hours, as my “natural glow” is too strong, but that has happened to me with every powder I tried so far.

Will I repurchase?
Someday maybe. But I still have too many other powders on my to-try list to do so right away.

Who would I recommend it to?
Anyone who likes a matte finish. There is no “Hourglass glow” with this product, it does what it says on the tin.

Are you a matte or a glow girl?
Do you powder at all?
