Monthly Recap – Blog Post Topics October 2018

October was the month that autumn well and truly arrived in Germany. Up until October 19th it was warm enough to leave the house without a jacket, even in the evenings, something that I only realized when on that day, October 19th, I actually felt a chill walking back to the car with Mr. Loca at 10 pm. Now Germany is not a cold country, but that was unusual.

October impressions
Fall is truly here

As it was to be expected, the period of sunny, but chilly weather that makes you take contemplative walks and kick up the colorful leaves didn´t last long either. By the time I write this it is grey and miserable outside, rain drizzling down on what is no longer colorful, but mostly rotten foliage.

Perfect to stay in and have a good old blog read, am I right? Here is what I wrote about last month.

Skincare

Caudalie Vinopure, the skincare line aimed at oily and congested skin, featured in quite a few of this months reviews, with me talking about the Caudalie Vinopure Blemish Control Infusion Serum  and the Caudalie Vinopure Skin Perfecting Mattifying Fluid. To sum things up, I even did a video on all products, to share the way I think you should use them and which one would be best suited for which skin type (watch here).

That video was my first time trying the new You Tube Premiere feature and, after spending five minutes talking to myself in the Live Chat, probably my last.

Another video (more successful, I might add) was “How to update your skincare routine for fall“, sharing tips that really came in handy when the temperature suddenly dropped and my “October Empties 2018” video featuring quite a few empty serums.

Sunscreen is of course something we should all use year round, and on the mission to find a SPF that actually works on my combination/oily skin I tested the klairs Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50 PA++++.

While sunscreen is a must, no discussion needed, jade rollers or other facial massage tools are much more controversial. To help you make an informed choice, I filmed “Jade rollers – Do they work?

Last but not least the exciting newly (-ish) released pixi Retinol Tonic* and pixi Rose Glow Mist* were reviewed.

Makeup

I don´t often do makeup tutorials anymore (Do you miss them? Should I bring them back?), but I had the Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions Palette in my stash and figured I could combine a review with a short tutorial (watch here). Three Looks, most of them wearable for every day, but not a palette I was impressed with.

It will not be one that I hold on to, something I try to be better about when it comes to makeup as I stated in “Nostalgic Makeup – Do you keep it?

Varicose veins

Lifestyle

Not really starting on a happy note I wrote about the scare my recent varicose veins and thrombosis diagnosis gave me here. For all of you asking (thank you for your concern!): Recovery has been speedy and I have the all clear to get back into working out again.

To help me boost my mood and keep me motivated I adopted the “Create before you consume” rule, which I talk about on the blog and tried venturing out of my niche to write about something else than skincare with a review of the Avon Advance Techniques Instant Restore Hair Care line*.

Quite a bit of reading material, so get set up with a mug of hot chocolate (or mulled wine, no judgement) and enjoy!
