Monthly Recap November 2019

I am going to spare you the whole “How come the year is already over” talk today. Or any day.

Because as much as I love the promise of a clean slate, I have learned long ago that new beginnings don’t always start on New Years Eve. In fact, more often they start at some random date throughout the year.

Monthly Recap November 2019
Is it just me or do the decorations start earlier each year?

November 4th was such a random date, as it marked the beginning of a two year course I am going to take, in an attempt to get yet another medical specialization – the one for Public Health this time. You might know that I am a trained anaesthesiologist and specialized in Intensive Care Medicine after that, but both degrees couldn’t be further away from what I do on a day to day basis right now, so a third one is in order.

Or a fourth, if you count the fact that I also have the specialization in Emergency Medicine, but that is more of a “on the side” certificate here in Germany.

Anywho, I started my course, which means that alongside working my day job I will travel to Stuttgart ever so often to spend a week learning about federal law and public water supplies, and of course travel back the same day to be able to put the kids to bed. Which means a lot of time spend on trains – I am getting really good at the whole editing videos on the go thing.

Oh, what a smooth transition to todays topic: The blog posts (and videos) I published last month!

The Inkey List Oil and Water Double Cleanser
One of my favorite discoveries of the month: The Inkey List Oil and Water Double Cleanser

Skincare Reviews

The first item I talked about last month was the pixi Retinol Lotion, which despite being a lovely moisturizer not actually contains retinol. Then things turned to cleansers, with both The Inkey List Oil and Water Double Cleanser and the pixi Hydrating Milky Cleanser reviewed. The first cleanser made it straight to my list of favorite products of 2019, while the pixi Hydrating Milky Cleanser got some bonus points for its extra firm foam.

Another product from The Inkey List, sadly a little disappointing this time, was The Inkey List Brighten-i Eye Cream. Try as I might, I just didn’t love it – probably because I am the wrong demographic. Perfectly fitting for me right now is The Inkey List Ceramide Night Treatment, which helps to repair the skin barrier when using strong retinoids. And as I started reintroducing prescription Tretinoin a few weeks ago, I discovered it exactly at the right time.

Monthly Recap November 2019
I did stick to this routine and build up my retinoid tolerance with minimal irritation over the last eight weeks.

Skincare Basics

Talking about strong retinoids was kind of the topic of the month – I started with my Comprehensive Guide to Retinoids in October and moved on to sharing How to use Retin A with minimal irritation and my full on Evening Skincare Routine with Tretinoin (and on recovery nights), a topic that apparently did interest you quite a bit.

We will move on to other topics soon though, don’t worry. But in the meantime let me share with you a few other blog posts that I think were too good to miss out on!

Link Love

This might be a little contradictionary when listed like this, but I want to mix Gift Guides with Low Waste tips here. While I am not exactly dedicated to living a low waste lifestyle, I try my best to make sensible decisions, and one blog that really offers food for thought without making me feel bad is Sustainably Savvy by the beautiful Lindsey. She shared a piece about “Why free samples are successful (and bad for the environment)” that was eye opening, and also just recently uploaded a Low Waste Gift Guide that you might want to draw inspiration from.

If you are more into the traditional beauty gift guides, Siobhan over at Beautylymin is a great place to stop by – she already published a Christmas Gift Guide under 25 €, a Christmas Gift Guide under 50 € and a luxury edit with gifts at 50€+.

I was also realy excited to see Jasmine publish ta blog post on The Inkey List –  I talk about the brand all the time, and now is your chance to check out if others rate it as highly as I do. And finally Shireen reviewed Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, one of skincare items that are so hyped you start doubting if there is actually any reason to all these rave reviews. Well, turns out there is, as I trust her opinion and she fell for it hard – I really need to try it myself soon.

And this Monthly Recap wouldn’t be complete with me pimping an old blog post with a new video addition – I picked The Inkey List Q 10 Serum this time. Here you go!
