pixi Glow Mud Cleanser – A little bit every day

These days I blame everything on the kids.

Kitchen not cleaned? The kids were so demanding! Or maybe I chose to watch You Tube instead.

Looking tired? They kept me up all night. After I went to bed very late, finishing just that one quest in WoW.

Stains on my shirt? We have started solids. And I tried to do everything at once and spilled my tea.

Haven’t done a face mask in weeks? Well, I actually don’t blame that on the kids. I just sometimes can´t be bothered. Some weeks my cleanse, cleanse, exfoliate, serum, oil routine is all I seem to be able to do.

These are the weeks when pixi Glow Mud Cleanser (PR-Sample) is what I reach for most.

What pixi skintreats claims:

This active yet gentle cleanser with 5% glycolic acid exfoliates to reveal a glowing, healthier-looking skintone. Mud deep cleans & detoxifies pores while hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and avocado oil plump & nourish the skin. Leaves complexion feeling smooth & purified.

Facts:

Prize and size

The product comes in a squeeze tube (prone to getting messy over time at the front) that contains 135 ml and retails for 18 GBP on the website here.

Texture and smell

The texture is a little odd at first, as it isn’t smooth, but has a little texture and firmness. That may be due to the fact that it contains Diatomaceous Earth (see below) that is often used as a physical exfoliant, but it does not feel like a physical scrub. It has no noticeable smell.

Application and effects

I used it as a second cleanse in the evenings or as a morning cleanse, and I would not recommend trying to take your makeup off with it. It contains glycolic acid, so you should avoid the eye area. The cleanser doesn’t lather, even though it contains “natural soap”, it just gets softer when applied to damp skin and is easy to rinse off. I did not notice any tightness or irritation after using it.

Favorable ingredients:

  • Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice: Antiinflammatory, soothing
  • Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil: Rich in linoleic acid, sebum control
  • Diatomaceous Earth: Physical exfoliant, rich in Silica
  • Glycerin: Hydrating
  • Glycolic Acid: AHA, improves skin texture
  • Squalane: Moisturizing, occurs in skins natural barrier
  • Anthemis Nobilis Flower (Chamomile) Extract: Soothing
  • Saponaria Officinalis Leaf/Root Extract: Natural cleanser
  • Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil: Rich in antioxidants and fatty acids
  • Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil: Moisturizing, antioxidant
  • Corylus Avellana (Hazelnut) Seed Oil: Moisturizing, controls sebum
  • Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil: Moisturizing, antioxidant
  • Sodium Hyaluronate (second to last ingredient, so probably not very effective)

Unfavorable Ingredients:

  • Fragrance: Lower third of the ingredient list

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes.

Even though I don’t think the hyaluronic acid, being second to last on the ingredient list, plays an important role in the hydrating process, but there are many other lovely ingredients in there that can do that part.

Would I repurchase?

Yes.

Just like the pixi Glow Tonic (Review here) this one is a great everyday workhorse. It gives me my glycolic fix without being too harsh for daily use and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated.

Who do I recommend it to?

People with sensitive skin that still want to use Glycolic Acid.

People that prefer to do a little bit every day instead of bringing out the big guns twice a week.

People with acne-prone skin and textural issues that want something that will not dehydrate their skin.

Now because I have seen them called dupes: How do I feel it works in comparison to Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip (Review here)?

I´d say they are sisters, not twins. The Ceramic Slip is much stronger for me in terms of “deep cleaning” the skin, but it is also quite harsh when you use it every single day. And it is about three times the price.

So for weeks when I know I won’t have time nerve for the big pampering session, I´ll use the pixi Glow Mud Cleanser at night, but if I know that one evening or two will be dedicated to the “Sunday Facial”, I use my Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip instead.

Are you one to do regular pampering sessions?

Or do you stick to one routine day in, day out?
