I have talked about the Purito Centella Unscented Toner, I have talked about the Purito Centella Unscented Sunscreen, it is about time I talk about the Purito Centella Unscented Serum, don´t you think?
After all I am almost through with my bottle, so I should have made up my mind by now!
So do I think this is a serum worth your money? And whom would I recommend it to?
A few words on the Purito controversy
Now if you have heard about Purito lately, it most likely was about their sunscreen, the one that started the “sunscreen gate” that took down quite a few crowd favorites, some of mine included. But as I said before: I think the brand handled the situation very well, taking responsibility and being transparent, so it still is a brand that I do support, use and review.
What the Purito Centella Unscented Serum claims
This serum rejuvenates the skin by strengthening its barrier. It contains essential Centella ingredients to restore a damaged skin barrier and soothe irritated skin. The Centella Asiatica Extract and Panthenol help calm the irritated skin preventing further inflammation. If your skin is stressed using too many products with various ingredients that do not fit your skin, give your face a break and help it restore by using the Centella Unscented Serum.

Prize and size
The serum contains 60 ml and retails for 20,50 $ on the website here. It is vegan, cruelty-free and has a pH of 5.3 according to the brand.
Texture and scent
Inside the pump bottle is a milky, lightweight serum that leaves a hint of tackiness when applied – not for long, but more so than the toner from the same line. Despite that initial tackiness I never experienced any piling when combining it with other products. There is no noticeable scent.
How to use the Purito Centella Unscented Serum
When and how you use it is entirely up to you: It is suitable for morning and nighttime use, works well with anything applied before and after and could even be used twice daily if you wanted to.
For me it fit best in my nighttime routine, used after cleansing and before moisturizer. I tried it both with and without the corresponding toner and while they seem to enhance each other’s effects, both are great used individually as well.

When we look at the ingredient list,the first thing to notice is the 49% of Centella Asiatica Extract. From what I have read that is the highest concentration available in skincare (please do correct me if I am wrong, I did not do in depth research here). Centella Asiatic is said to be antiinflammatory, soothing and help in wound healing through the terpenoids it contains and that we find added separately in the form of madecassic acid, asiaticoside and asiatic acid. There are also a few peptides from the Matrixyl family (click here for an overview on peptides), my all-time favorite Niacinamide (read more about that here), Glycerin and Sodium Hyaluronate as humectants and Ceramide NP for barrier strengthening as well as Panthenol for soothing and Green Tea Extract as antioxidant.
Does it live up to its claims?
I really enjoy the serum as “supporting act” in winter when the cold, the central heating and my prescription Tretinoin can lead to irritation. It is of course impossible to measure if and by how much it strengthens my skin barrier, but just from personal observation my skin feels soothed when using it.
How does it compare to…
the Purito Centella Unscented Toner
With the toner basically being a more watered down version of the serum, the question is do you really need both of them. Well, I don´t think so. Either of them feels soothing and hydrating on the skin, and if I had to pick – which I will eventually have when I decide which one to repurchase – I would probably go for the toner. Not because it is better in a measurable way, but simply because it is less sticky upon initial application and because I prefer my serum to have more impact rather than just soothe – even though I know quite well that sometimes soothing skin is the most impactful thing you can do.

Would I repurchase?
No.
Not because I dislike it, but because I have already set my heart on repurchasing the Purito Toner of the same line.
Whom do I recommend it to?
Due to its lightweight texture and lack of fragrance and essential oils I think the serum is suitable for all skin types.
