Month in Review January 2019

The first month of 2019 has passed already, and as always it was a particularly grey and gloomy one here in Germany.

We did have snow, but it only lasted briefly, despite a week of bitter cold. Chilly winds, biting frost, you get the idea. Now, it is still Southern Germany, so I may exaggerate a little, but stay with me, it will help set the mood.

And in this cold and chill (and tiny bits of snow) I took off my coat and posed for some pictures in the forest. You may have seen some of them on my Instagram already (@lindalibraloca), but I figured they’d provide viewing pleasure while I sum up the blog posts I wrote for January 2019.

New Skincare Releases – What is worth buying?

This blog post uses affiliate links. Please read disclaimer. Anzeige.

You know what the hardest part of a low-buy is? You actually can’t just go out and just buy all the things that tickle you’re fancy.

Okay, I should have known that before I declared my Low-Buy 2019 on the blog, and obviously I DID know that, but I didn’t know just how hard it would be! I developed a habit of keeping up with new releases over the last year, a great thing for a beauty blogger, but not exactly great for a low-buy beauty blogger.

So I had to find a creative way to deal with shopping restrictions, preferably while creating new content, because that is the ultimate goal, isn’t it?

Here you go – I present you a new series: “New Skincare Releases – What is worth buying?”.

THE INKEY LIST Rosehip Oil – For the soul

This blog post uses affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

Once the New Year Excitement has worn off, all we are left with is the cold, dark and grey reality of winter in Germany. No snow covered slopes to brighten the outdoors here, at least not on a regular!

THE INKEY LIST Rose Hip Oil

When going outside seems to be no fun at all, and you need not only protective layers of clothing, but also protective layers for your soul.

Now don´t tell me you don´t know what I am talking about, chocolate is an excellent protective layer for the soul for example.

As are oils. Posh, golden droplets pressed into your skin – pure bliss

My current crush? THE INKEY LIST Rosehip Oil.

How to build a basic skincare routine

This blog post uses affiliate links and *PR-Samples. Please read disclaimer.

It is no secret that I love testing new skincare, and while I am not invested in the famous 10 step Korean regimen, I admit that there are nights that I am not far from using that amount of products.

It is no secret either that I am not a fan of clutter and wastage, and you don´t have to be a genius to see that this combination can easily lead to trouble. I mean, I do only have that one face, and if I keep purchasing new stuff I will eventually drown in a pile of half empty bottles.

How to build a basic skincare routine
How to build a basic skincare routine – The 4 steps everyone needs

Even worse: When doing my 2018 Beauty favorites (see here) I realized that even if I really fall for a product, I usually don’t repurchase.

Why? Because there are always three others lined up that need to be finished first, and by the time I have gone through all of them, I most likely forgot about the one that rocked my world.

So with 2019 still fresh and new, I set myself a goal: I would build a basic skin care routine out of my favorite products, one that consist of as little steps as possible, but still has everything my aging, acne prone skin needs.

So today, dear friend, we will talk basics. The four steps that your skincare routine should include no matter your age or skin type. The basis on which we will build your best routine ever!

Low-Buy 2019 – Here is how I do it

It is funny that as soon as a New Year starts, new buzz words appear out of nowhere. My top three so far? Pollution, prebiotics and low-buy!

And while I won´t go into detail on pollution and prebiotics (both skincare related) as I have dedicated videos planned on those topics, I figured I would join in on Low-Buy 2019 and tell you how I plan to do it.

Low-Buy 2019
Low-Buy 2019 – from a lipstick lovers perspective

In all honesty, I have been on a Low-Buy for more than three years already. Ever since I went on maternity leave with my daughter and my disposable income suddenly reduced dramatically, I tried to shop my stash both for makeup and skincare.

And, shock horror, this has seen me through three years now with still having unopened products in my drawers. Which is obviously fine with most makeup, but slowly gets problematic with skincare – even unopened most items are expired by now.

Best of Beauty 2018 – My skincare and makeup favorites

This blog post contains PR-Samples and affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

When I wrote my post on „How to accept failure“, I got a ton of lovely comments telling me to focus on all the things I had achieved in 2018 instead of dwelling on what hadn´t worked as planned.

Great advice indeed, so let´s put things into perspective and see what amazing new beauty items I discovered in 2018 because of blogging. I mean, would I really slather so much stuff on my face, constantly switching to the newest skincare item if it weren’t for the sake of writing reviews on here? I don’t think I would.

As it is the nature of this blog, you will find much more skincare items on the list than you will find makeup, for several reasons, and I will talk you through all of them in the video below, which (as always) I recommend you watch on You Tube and in HD.

THE INKEY LIST Retinol – New beginnings

The first review of the year feels a little like the first snow. Everything looks different, feels different, and you are suddenly very conscious about the footprints you are going to leave.

THE INKEY LIST Retinol

Well, after the first hours of winter wonderland everything will turn into the same soggy mess it was before, slightly grey, really wet and clammy. At least this is true for German first snow, so I guess it will be true for this German Beauty Blog as well.

Same reviews, same ramblings, same blog, basically.

Now that we dusted off the first layer of new excitement, let´s focus on the review at hand. THE INKEY LIST Retinol

Monthly Recap – Blog Post Topics December 2018

And just like that, another month has passed, and with this, 2018 comes to an end. Did it drag on? Did it fly by? I have heard both.

But I am not here today to reflect on the year that passed, no. I want to talk about the month that ends today, my hectic and sugar filled December.

Blog Post Topics December 2018
December brought the first snow

Although maybe hectic isn´t the right word (sugar filled is, no denying that). Maybe eventful is more fitting, given that I thoroughly enjoyed every event I attended, Christmas related or not. I visited a Christmas Market at our local zoo with the kids, which was magical (despite me getting Whamed on December 2nd!), met up with people I hadn´t seen for almost a decade and went on my first LARP in six years.

I wouldn´t mind going on like that, maybe cut back a little on the sugar (New Years Resolutions and such), but putting an emphasis on the people in my life that make me happy.

Winter skincare tips – How to get glowing skin in winter

This blog post may contain affiliate links and *PR-Samples. Please read disclaimer.

After what seems to have been the shortest fall in history, the cold and harsh winds are upon us.

Cold and harsh are of course widely exaggerated if I compare my comfortable home in Heidelberg, Germany to where my brother in law lives, up North in Norway, but it is still cold enough for my skin to need special treatment.

Winter skincare tips
Baby its cold outside … Winter skincare tips

So while I take care of body and soul with cozy knits and hot chocolate (a cup a day keeps the doctor away), I have worked out how to best take care of my skin in winter. And other than my hot chocolate I am willing to share these tips!

Instytutum Skincare Rebranded – Is it still as good?

Products mentioned in this post are PR-Samples. Please read disclaimer.

It is always bitter sweet if a brand decides to invent themselves new and reformulate all their products, isn’t it?

If you have been around here for a little while, you might have heard me talk about Instytutum. This Swiss brand, founded by Natalia Derkach (a fellow doctor) claims to offer “result driven skincare” and presents itself with sleek, almost clinical packaging.

You know I am all about skincare giving results, and I found quite a few products within the Instytutum line that I considered worth the (admittedly hefty) price tag. So when I learned that not only the packaging had been changed, but that there were tweaks to the formula as well, I was worried.

After testing the new versions for several weeks now I am ready to give you the details on how the Instytutum rebranding changed the products and if my favorites are still my favorites!
