Best of Beauty 2018 – My skincare and makeup favorites

This blog post contains PR-Samples and affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

When I wrote my post on „How to accept failure“, I got a ton of lovely comments telling me to focus on all the things I had achieved in 2018 instead of dwelling on what hadn´t worked as planned.

Great advice indeed, so let´s put things into perspective and see what amazing new beauty items I discovered in 2018 because of blogging. I mean, would I really slather so much stuff on my face, constantly switching to the newest skincare item if it weren’t for the sake of writing reviews on here? I don’t think I would.

As it is the nature of this blog, you will find much more skincare items on the list than you will find makeup, for several reasons, and I will talk you through all of them in the video below, which (as always) I recommend you watch on You Tube and in HD.

THE INKEY LIST Retinol – New beginnings

This blogpost uses affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

The first review of the year feels a little like the first snow. Everything looks different, feels different, and you are suddenly very conscious about the footprints you are going to leave.

Well, after the first hours of winter wonderland everything will turn into the same soggy mess it was before, slightly grey, really wet and clammy. At least this is true for German first snow, so I guess it will be true for this German Beauty Blog as well.

Same reviews, same ramblings, same blog, basically.

Now that we dusted off the first layer of new excitement, let´s focus on the review at hand. THE INKEY LIST Retinol

Monthly Recap – Blog Post Topics December 2018

And just like that, another month has passed, and with this, 2018 comes to an end. Did it drag on? Did it fly by? I have heard both.

But I am not here today to reflect on the year that passed, no. I want to talk about the month that ends today, my hectic and sugar filled December.

Blog Post Topics December 2018
December brought the first snow

Although maybe hectic isn´t the right word (sugar filled is, no denying that). Maybe eventful is more fitting, given that I thoroughly enjoyed every event I attended, Christmas related or not. I visited a Christmas Market at our local zoo with the kids, which was magical (despite me getting Whamed on December 2nd!), met up with people I hadn´t seen for almost a decade and went on my first LARP in six years.

I wouldn´t mind going on like that, maybe cut back a little on the sugar (New Years Resolutions and such), but putting an emphasis on the people in my life that make me happy.

How to deal with failure

But how about now, with the old year coming to an end? How about the day you sit down to reflect on what you actually wanted to achieve in 2018 and realize that you, no denying that, failed?

December Empties 2018 – Taking out the trash 20

This blog post uses *PR-Samples and affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

My first ever video was an Empties one. It was shortly after Christmas, I was seven months pregnant and lighting, sound and setup were awful.

It is still live though, and I am happy I decided back then, after much uhm-ing and ah-ing, that I wanted to film. Empty containers are better shown than photographed, at least in my opinion, and having a written text on 24 different products would probably prove cumbersome to read.

I am not sure now if it is any less cumbersome to listen to me talk about the 24 empty products, but I´ll just continue blabbing on. Seeing that I managed to keep the video under ten minutes I am positive it won’t be too bad.

THE INKEY LIST Q10 – Understatement

This blog post uses affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

I admit, most company claims make me roll my eyes to the back of my head. Products allegedly shaving years of your face, singlehandedly tightening the skin around your jaw line so you look like your teenage self while transforming your undereyes from “Tired mom on a Monday” to “Bombshell on a tropical vacation” – I have seen it all.

What I haven´t seen that often though is a product that comes with reasonable claims that are, actually, an understatement!

Like, you read them, are all “Yeah, sounds nice”, test the product and are blown away by what it actually can do for you.

That is how I felt when testing THE INKEY LIST Q10.

We all know I love trying new skincare brands, so when I got the opportunity to work with the German skincare brand “My One” by Dr. Klein on the release of their new My One 24 h Anti-Aging System, I jumped at the chance.

This blog post will give you an overview over the products, prices and claims, it is not an in-depth review as I only used them a little over a week, surely not long enough to comment on any long term benefits. Full reviews will follow eventually.

If anyone is tempted to join me in trying the My One System, there will be a giveaway at the bottom of the post, offering you the chance to get your hands on a set of your own.

THE INKEY LIST Collagen Serum – Names

This blogpost contains affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

Unicorn tears – if a brand decides to name their products like that, they lost me as a customer for sure. I prefer a less romantic, more to the point approach, which is why I get along so very well with The Ordinary products: The name is what is inside the bottle.

Fancy? No. But easy to work with for sure!

I recently learned the hard way though that seemingly straight forward names can be misleading! You see, when I placed my THE INKEY LIST order, I hesitated before clicking “Add to basket” when it came to THE INKEY LIST Collagen. It was recommended by Caroline Hirons, but the science behind topically applied collagen is sparse, to say the least.

It was only when I received the product that I realized my mistake: THE INKEY LIST Collagen does, in fact, not contain collagen. It targets collagen production with an amazing cocktail of peptides!

Winter skincare tips – How to get glowing skin in winter

This blog post may contain affiliate links and *PR-Samples. Please read disclaimer.

After what seems to have been the shortest fall in history, the cold and harsh winds are upon us.

Cold and harsh are of course widely exaggerated if I compare my comfortable home in Heidelberg, Germany to where my brother in law lives, up North in Norway, but it is still cold enough for my skin to need special treatment.

Winter skincare tips
Baby its cold outside … Winter skincare tips

So while I take care of body and soul with cozy knits and hot chocolate (a cup a day keeps the doctor away), I have worked out how to best take care of my skin in winter. And other than my hot chocolate I am willing to share these tips!

Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm – Late to the party

This blog post uses affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

I don´t always publish my reviews “on time”, but this has to be the biggest delay ever.

Seriously, I have been planning to write about the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm for more than six years!

Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm
Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm

Six years? Yes! See, like most of us I debated whether or not I should start a blog for quite a bit before publishing my first post. And even before I had decided on a blog name, I was sure to write about the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm. It was one of the first balm cleansers I bought, heavily influenced by Caroline Hirons and A Model Recommends.

What happened? I got pregnant, that is what happened, and with my heightened sense of smell I simply couldn´t stand the scent anymore, depsite the fact that I adored it before.

So here I am, six years and two children later, determined to bring you one of the first reviews I ever planned to write – Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm!
