Monthly Recap – Blog Post Topics November 2018

November is done and dusted, and tomorrow will be the day I get the boxes with Christmas decoration from the basement and start randomly putting them on available surface spots.

Not kidding here, I am a lost cause when it comes to decorating, no matter how much Inspiration Boards I have on Pinterest.

But I am making an effort, for the kids mostly, as I want them to embrace the spirit of the season.

While we get all festive here, why not take the time and browse through my most recent blogposts, just in case you missed some? And if you did, consider subscribing to my Newsletter here, which I will actually send out once more than me and my mother are subscribed.

I know that having an actual mailing list is uber important for blogs, but given that we share a house I don´t think my mother needs my updates electronically.

Taking out the trash 17 – May Empties

This blog post contains PR-Samples and affiliate links. Please see disclaimer.

One in, two out, that was the rule I once tried to establish. And while I think I did pretty good in terms of skincare… No, seriously! I realized I didn’t have any cleansers in my back up drawers just the other day, something that I considered impossible a year ago.

So while I think I did pretty good in terms of skincare, I still can´t seem to go through my makeup. I throw out the odd thing here and there, but even with a conscious effort to wear all my lipsticks and decide which ones to keep and which ones to give away, I haven’t managed to slim down my collection.

And if I look at the ratio of New In Beauty vs Empties videos I post, I feel like I am doomed to drown in beauty products.

pixi Rose Caviar Essence – It is what it is

This blog post contains *PR-samples and affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

There is a fable in Germany which, long story short, adresses the urge to know everything. A problem that I can relate to.

I encourage curiosity, but (fellow moms will agree), sometimes there are too many questions and we need to let go. Let go for times sake and for our own sanity.

“It is what it is”, said love.

This is the last sentence of the fable, and the one I focus on when there simply is no other answer.

Like: What is the pixi Rose Caviar Essence * in term of skincare category? Is it an essence, as the name would suggest? Or a serum, as stated in the claims? Or a facial oil, given that rich natural oils are a main component?

I, dear reader, can´t tell you which category the pixi Rose Caviar Essence * belongs to. But I can tell you many other things about it, if you are curious.

essence longlasting lipliner – What the heart wants

The heart wants, what it wants.

How often have you heard this saying? I have heard it a lot throughout the years, and increasingly more often to justify an obsession with luxury brands.

And while I agree that you sometimes really have to follow your heart…

Wait. This somehow sounds like a Valentines Day post. I swear, this is not intentional, I don’t even DO Valentines Day! I guess the abundance of pink hearts must have fogged my brain.

Back on track: There are occasions where following your heart is the only option. But I firmly believe in using my brain, especially when money is involved.

Which is why I get much more excited about drugstore discoveries these days. The latest one I have been meaning to share? essence longlasting lipliner, available in a multitude of colors.

essence The False Lashes mascara extreme – That extra mile

This blog post contains affiliate links. Please see disclaimer.

A few weeks ago I watched a You Tube tutorial.

Shocking news, I know, but do hear me out!

The tutorial itself was nothing extraordinary, one of these you have playing in the background while doing boring chores like folding laundry. But she said something that actually made me pause, rewind and repeat.

She said, quote: “… going to just use mascara, as I was surprised to find out how many of you don’t wear false lashes on a daily basis.”

Now each to their own, but I´d be surprised to find out that many women would actually wear false lashes on a regular. A quick look around revealed… None.

We do rely on mascara that promises lashes looking as if they were fake. Like essence The False Lashes mascara extreme

Best of Beauty 2017 – My makeup and skincare favorites

This post contains PR-samples and affiliate links. Please see disclaimer.

I am not one to dwell in the past.

Yes, the things that happen to us do shape and affect us, no denying that. But I do believe that it is my choice what defines me.

On some occasions though, I immerse myself in times (long) gone, relive sensual experiences in my mind, remember scents, textures, pleasure…

Best of beauty 2017 – makeup and skincare

Wait, that sounds like I am referring to a kinky paperback with a castle and someone in a ripped dress on the front. I am not!

I am actually talking about the Best of Beauty 2017! I am here to share with you what I loved the most, be it makeup or skincare in the past year.

Questionable reading choices might be discussed elsewhere…

Fall Favorites 2017 – Being unique

This blog post contains PR-Samples and affiliate links. Please see disclaimer.

Are we ever as unique as we like to think? Most of us, especially those that have any kind of creative outlet online, like to think that their content is fresh and special and easily distinguable from others.

We put “our own twist” on things, have a theme in our pictures and invent fancy names for even fancier blog post series.

And then, one day, we take a step back and realize we are doing what everyone around us does as well. Slightly different, maybe, but not as extraordinary as we would have liked to believe.

Fall Favorites 2017
Fall Favorites 2017

Last time that happened to me was with my Favorite posts. You may remember I started to get bored (struggled to find enough new things) to keep up a monthly series.

I decided to turn it into a “New In and short reviews” kind of video.

Which didn´t satisfy me either.

Finally, what a revelation, I decided to only do them occasionally.

Turns out, quite a few of my favorite blogs went there already, posting whenever they felt like doing it. I am so yesterday…

But you know what? I don´t care. Sometimes you don´t have to be unique, you can take inspiration to find whatever works best for you and happily stick with it, knowing that quite a few people seem to feel the same way.

A natural flush – My Blush Collection

As I mentioned here before, I have a tendency to look like I am ill.

Or have had way to little sleep (which is true most of the time).
Blush Collection
My Blush Collection

To stop people from making me sit down and have a glass of water, I rely heavily on the power of blush, both powder and cream.
Again, this little overview is MAC-heavy, just because I genuinely love their products and bought a lot of them back in the days.

The Neutrals

If you would have asked me before I wrote this post which color blushes I owned the most, I would have said “Coral” without thinking twice.
Boy, I was wrong!
Blush Collection - The neutrals
Starting at twelve o´clock, going clockwise: “Garb”, “Blush all day”, “Prim & Proper”, “Semi Precious”, “Personal Style”, “Harmony” (all MAC)
“Garb”: Sheertone Blush, a warm golden brown.
“Blush all day”: Pro Longwear Blush, a rose brown
“Prim &Proper”: Satin, a rose brown
“Semi Precious”: MSF, a plummy brown
“Personal Style”: Beauty Powder Blush, a true neutral brown
“Harmony”: Matte, a taupe brown, great for contouring
Swatches from left to right: “Garb”, “Blush all day”, “Prim & Proper”, “Semi Precious” (Center Colors), “Semi Precious” (All Colors), “Harmony”

The Corals

Not as many as I thought, but as you can see all well loved and left with a dent.
Blush Collection - The corals
L to R: “Instant Chic” (MAC), “Orgasm” (NARS), “Fleet Fast” (MAC)
“Instant Chic”: Sheertone Blush, a true coral (MAC)
“Orgasm”: A more pink toned coral with lots of golden shimmer (NARS)
“Fleet Fast”: Satin, pinker than “Instant Chic”, but more orange than “Orgasm” (MAC)
Swatches L to R: “Instant Chic”, “Orgasm”, “Fleet Fast”

The Peaches

My favorite color as soon as the weather gets warmer. Again, all MAC.
Blush Collection - The peach
L to R: “Warmth of Coral”, “Peach Blossom”
“Warmth of Coral”: Mineralize Blush, despite the name more peach than coral on me.
“Persistent Peach”: Blush Ombre, recently repromoted. Mine is several years old and well loved.
L to R: “Warmth of Coral”, “Peach Blossom”

The Creams

I only got into cream blushes about two years ago, so this part of my collection is the most likely to grow.
I sneakily ordered the MAC Cream Blush in “P.S. I like you” and didn’t include it here, but will do a separate post with it some time soon. Update: Read here!
Blush Collection - The creams
L to R: “Soft Candy” (Max Factor), “Floral Glam” (Essence), “Soft Cardinal” (Max Factor)
“Soft Candy”: A true red, on the warmer side.
“Floral Glam”: Cream to Powder Blush from a long gone LE, a true red.
“Soft Cardinal”: A warm pink, great worn as eyeshadow (see here)
L to R: “Soft Candy”, “Floral Glam”, “Soft Cardinal”
A lot of products, but most of them already have a dent and I even hit pan on “Blush all day” (great for long days, because it really last all day). I use blush every single day.
Looking at my collection, I guess I´ll take it easy on the browns for the time coming and try to find some more pinks and/or berry tones…

What would you think I am missing?

Growing up and getting faster – the nail polish issue

To me, there is nothing that says: “I am a sophisticated grown up woman that knows how to handle her life” quite like perfectly done nails in a dark color.

Sadly this is a goal I haven’t met yet.

At first, I was intimidated by the dark colors.
They were so noticeable, looked like you had actually painted your nails! Quite unlike the sheer pinks or barely there glitters you get as a freebie when buying Wendy.
I case you wondered, Wendy is a magazine about horses, aimed at twelve year old girls. I think it is Germany only, but I reckon there are similar magazines everywhere on this planet.

Then, when I finally overcame my fear of looking like I had put makeup on, the “perfectly done” part was the deal breaker.

As I mentioned before, I am not the most patient girl, and there is always something left to do.
So waiting for the polish to dry is a punishment, leading to chipping and smudging because I just couldn’t wait five more minutes.

Essence nail art express dry drops

But there is hope, brought to me by essence Instant Dry Drops.
Dark months, dark lips, dark nails, this is how I felt for those past few months.
And even if I am not quite sure whether I would call myself a “sophisticated grown up women that knows how to handle her life” quite yet, I may have looked like one.

The nail polishes that helped me achieve this look were:

1. Essie “Sole Mate”
A deep rich plum with a cream finish. Retails for 7,95 € here.
Essie nail polishes last around five days without chipping on me, and this one is no exception. For reference, other nail polish chips after two days, so five days is good!
Opaque in two coats.

Essie Sole Mate

2. Essie “For the twill of it”
A green/purple duo chrome with a metallic finish. It was part of the 2013 fall collection, but you can still get it at 9,24 € here.
The longevity is again five days and it is opaque in one coat, although I prefer two.

Essie For the twill of it

3. P2 “Rich & Royal”
This is the first nail polish I bought after I started to get into reading beauty blogs, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.
It is a taupe-grey with a little hint of violet and a dupe for Chanels Particulière. Wearing a nail polish that could have been Chanel made me feel uber-stylish.
Opaque in one coat and with a great longevity.
Much to my dismay you can’t get hold of it anymore, so I dread the day I will run out of it.
Mr. Loca, seldom commenting on anything beauty or makeup related, calls that color the “Hit your thumb with a hammer”-polish…

P2 Rich and Royal

And to ease my impatient soul, I recently introduced the “Nail Art Express Dry Drops” by essence into my routine.
They claim to dry your nails within 60 seconds while nourishing nail and cuticle with Vitamin E and almond oil.
Although I am not a big fan of the oily part (I have to get up and wash my hands, as it feels that greasy), my nails are dry in an instant.
Retailing at 1,99 € here, they are a bargain.

What are your polish picks for the season?
And your secrets to keeping your polish put and shiny?

Products I regret buying – Part 1

This blogpost contains affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

When you constantly buy new products for testing (*cough*) reasons, inevitable you will find some that just won’t work for you.

And as much as I like to write reviews urging you to run out and buy stuff, I figured it could be of some use to tell you what I already wasted money on to save yours.

Todays edition features a drugstore eyebrow pencil, a concealer/eye cream hybrid, some skincare and a lash growth serum.

A short disclaimer first:
I by no means tell you these are bad products. If you happen to love them, that is great. What may work for me might not work for you and vice versa.

Without further ado…
