Decluttering my nail polish collection

I understand it might seem different, but I have never watched an episode of Mari Kondo on Netflix in my whole life. I haven´t even read her book, although I have considered gifting it to certain people I share a roof with several times.

The impulse to declutter my surroundings hasn´t been triggered externally, I have always had it. Not that I am a minimalist, but I prefer organized places and space around me.

My mother might now think back at me growing up and strongly disagree, so I will rephrase to: Ever since I moved out, I had the desire to have a clutter free surrounding.

With two kids though clutter just seems to manifest out of thin air, and that is not limited to kids stuff. No, quite the opposite! I feel like I spend so much time decluttering kids toys and picking up after them that my own stuff grows rapidly.

Laura Geller Baked Balance-N-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation – Food

This blog post uses affiliate links and thus qualifies as advertisement. Please read disclaimer.

My love for food is well documented on this blog, but did you know that this gets triggered by food related makeup? No joking, if something is called Gelato Swirl, Honey Bronze or just Baked Whatever, I start salivating.

And yes, I am well aware that I am so not selling the Laura Geller Baked Balance-N-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation to you here, linking it to mental images of saliva and me stuffing my face.

Maybe I can make it better if I tell you that it contains White Tea Extract for added antioxidant benefits? And that tea goes perfectly with any baked goods? No?

Okay, let´s leave the food and focus on the review instead.

When should I start using anti-aging products

This blog post uses affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

After I filmed the video on “How to build a basic skincare routine”, a common question I got was: When should I start using anti-aging products?

Can starting too soon be harmful?

Which age will be too late?

When should I start using anti-aging products?
When should I start using anti-aging products?

As always, there is no one size fits all answer. The skincare you need is much more determined by your concerns and your lifestyle than it is by the age in your passport!

Starting really early won´t damage your skin – but it will waste money you could spend on other things rather than skincare you don´t yet need.

Starting really late won´t damage your skin either – you just need to know that some things can´t be reversed with OTC skincare products, and that prevention is key.

THE INKEY LIST Vitamin C Serum – More and more

This blog post uses affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

Bigger is better – I am old enough to remember those slogans.

Back when I was young (CENTURIES ago, people!), minimalism wasn´t really a thing. You had to always have more. The newest, the latest, the biggest.

THE INKEY LIST Vitamin C Serum
THE INKEY LIST Vitamin C

It didn´t matter if you did need it. Or even use it, for that matter. You just needed to HAVE it. And while minimalism (and low-buys) seem to be everywhere these days, I feel like some of that more is more mentality is still around.

Take skincare ingredients for example – some seem to think that the higher the percentage of “active ingredient”, the better the product, not taking into account that your skin can actually only absorb a certain amount, and once that amount is reached, the rest goes to waste.

The effect is called bioavailability, and for Vitamin C it seems to be somewhere around 20 – 25%.

Which means that a formula containing 30% Vitamin C, like THE INKEY LIST Vitamin C Serum, essentially contains more than you can use.

Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily. But the higher the percentage, the higher the risk for irritation – so let´s take a closer look at THE INKEY LIST Vitamin C Serum.

Beauty Empties February 2019

This blog post contains affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

A few days ago I had a conversation with Lindsey (who blogs at Sustainably Savvy about green beauty and her zero waste journey) about the “right amount” of products to include into a Beauty Empties video.

I mean, you basically need to get people interested in you talking about trash, that is hard work!

Empties February 2019
Empties February 2019 – What would I repurchase?

On top of that you don´t want to show too many products – I mean, I love watching empties, but if I see the video is an hour long, I will never click on it –  but you don´t want to show too little product either. If all you have is an empty bag of cotton pads and a shower gel, you don´t really need to get started.

Low Buy 2019 – The first month

This blog post uses affiliate links and features PR-Samples, which classifies as advertisement. Please read disclaimer.

So, that low buy thing… How has it been going so far?

Well, thank you for asking! Pretty good, actually.

I admit I feel a little envious about all of you that finished a No Buy January and now are back in the game, credit card in hand, but if I am completely honest, I don´t  really need anything. (Read about my Low Buy 2019 rules here)

Low Buy 2019
This picture has nothing to do with the blog post. I just like it.

Which is actually not entirely true: I DO need a new concealer. I only have one left, the Sephora High Coverage Concealer Natural Finish in Porcelain Rosé, and the reason I still have it is because it doesn´t really work for me. It is NOT high coverage, despite the name, and only lasts three to four hours when used to conceal spots.

Month in Review January 2019

The first month of 2019 has passed already, and as always it was a particularly grey and gloomy one here in Germany.

We did have snow, but it only lasted briefly, despite a week of bitter cold. Chilly winds, biting frost, you get the idea. Now, it is still Southern Germany, so I may exaggerate a little, but stay with me, it will help set the mood.

Month in Review January
Frozen water

And in this cold and chill (and tiny bits of snow) I took off my coat and posed for some pictures in the forest. You may have seen some of them on my Instagram already (@lindalibraloca), but I figured they’d provide viewing pleasure while I sum up the blog posts I wrote for January 2019.

New Skincare Releases – What is worth buying?

This blog post uses affiliate links. Please read disclaimer. Anzeige.

You know what the hardest part of a low-buy is? You actually can’t just go out and just buy all the things that tickle you’re fancy.

Okay, I should have known that before I declared my Low-Buy 2019 on the blog, and obviously I DID know that, but I didn’t know just how hard it would be! I developed a habit of keeping up with new releases over the last year, a great thing for a beauty blogger, but not exactly great for a low-buy beauty blogger.

So I had to find a creative way to deal with shopping restrictions, preferably while creating new content, because that is the ultimate goal, isn’t it?

Here you go – I present you a new series: “New Skincare Releases – What is worth buying?”.

THE INKEY LIST Rosehip Oil – For the soul

This blog post uses affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

Once the New Year Excitement has worn off, all we are left with is the cold, dark and grey reality of winter in Germany. No snow covered slopes to brighten the outdoors here, at least not on a regular!

When going outside seems to be no fun at all, and you need not only protective layers of clothing, but also protective layers for your soul.

Now don´t tell me you don´t know what I am talking about, chocolate is an excellent protective layer for the soul for example.

As are oils. Posh, golden droplets pressed into your skin – pure bliss

My current crush? THE INKEY LIST Rosehip Oil.

Wearable Makeup Trends 2019 – Easy eyes, red lips

This blog post uses affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

Makeup trends – I can´t be the only one that keeps looking them up, but struggles to incorporate them into their actual routine.

Don’t get me wrong, I do wear more makeup than the average woman, but what looks gorgeous on a 20 something on the runway doesn’t necessarily flatter a 40 something doing the groceries.

Makeup Trends 2019
Soft eyes and red lips – a fresh spring look

But seeing that I am stuck in kind of a makeup rut, I decided to challenge myself and see if I can actually adapt the Makeup Trends 2019 to my life – runway to real life, if you will.

To ease into it, I picked the one that was closest to home: Easy eyes and red lips.
