The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2 % + B5 – #firstworldproblems

This blog post contains affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

Is the “feels” side of a product important to you? Or is the sensual experience secondary, as long as a product delivers?

And isn´t even asking this question the epitome of #firstworldproblems?

I guess it is. If a product delivers ingredientwise, shouldn´t that be the only thing that matters? Why would we spend more just to have a more pleasant experience when applying something?

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2 % + B5

A question I do ask myself quite often when it comes to The Ordinary products, and one that I have yet to find an answer for.

But I have learned, the “feels” do matter to me, and, within reason of course, I am willing to pay extra just because something feels nicer.

Last product to proove that? The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2 % + B5

The Ordinary Coverage Foundation – Confusion

This blogpost uses affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

While I was trying to write this introduction, I got sucked in to the black hole that is “The Ordinary Drama” time lines. As much as I claim I don´t care for drama online (and believe me, I don´t) it seems like once you start reading, you simply can´t stop.

So much has happened since I shared my initial thoughts here, and it leaves me incredibly confused.

So how do I proceed? I guess I will continue with what I do best and focus on the product at hand, the The Ordinary Coverage foundation and no longer think about the time wasted following link after link in an attempt to make sense to what ultimately may not have one.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation – Habits

This blog post contains affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

I know many a blogger out there started their blog to justify a spending habit that is borderline hoarding. And I am no exception! “I want to write about it!” is a common excuse when yet another red lipstick makes its way into my basket. (But then again, who blogs about a single lipstick anymore? I´ll buy the whole line!)

Mr. Loca has long learned not to question the sheer amount of parcels appearing on our doorstep.

And while I am very good at actually finishing stuff (proof are my empties videos) and my shopping is much more mindful, I am not immune to buying stuff I actually did know in the first place I wouldn´t really use.

Latest one? The Ordinary Serum Foundation. I prefer my base to be matte, long lasting and at least medium coverage, none of which it claims to be.

But of course I put it to the test anyway!

New In Beauty June 2018 – 10 years Cult Beauty

This blog post contains affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

Do you like premade pick and mix bags? We had that at a fair recently, when you could choose your bag, but not what was inside.

My daughter was all over it, while I was a little more hesitant. I mean, what is the point in pick and mix when you don´t get to pick?

She loved the thrill though, carefully going through her purchase, eating her favorites and offering the ones that didn´t appeal to her to her little brother. Who, admittedly, would eat just about anything.

Side note: I of course supervised and stopped him from eating the licorice. Mr. Loca was very happy to step in and take one for the team here.

It kind of reminded me about how I feel when I receive a Gift with Purchase, excitedly dividing things to keep from things to give away. And, among all that, discovering makeup items I hadn´t even heard about before.

This time it was the Lime Crime Velvetine Red Velvet Liquid Lipstick.

The Ordinary “Buffet” – Talk science to me!

This blog post contains affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

It would have been so easy to talk about food in this intro. I mean, come on, “Buffet”? Something along the lines of “Do you prefer it over a la carte?” or “Do you think we eat more or less when there is buffet?”

But I refuse to take the easy road (I save that for late night blog post writing mere hours before something needs to be published) and instead want to talk about a change that I have noticed over the course of the last years in terms of skincare brands and marketing.

The Ordinary Buffet

It might be my focus (and age that makes me remember times when many of my readers weren´t even born), but recently science became increasingly popular. Gone are the days when “look young and fresh” was enough to sell a moisturizer. These days words like “SYN™-AKE peptide complex (with dipeptide diaminobutyroyl benzylamide diacetate)” are casually thrown around, as if everyone was supposed to know what they mean.

Well, most people don´t.

I don´t. At least not without research.

But I can´t help but feel impressed by all the science that obviously went into development and am more inclined to purchase.

The Ordinary EUK 134° 0,1% – Superheroes

This blog post contains affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

Do you have a favorite superhero? Or a favorite super power? I have! Both actually.

My favorite superhero is Mystique, and my favorite power is her power, which is changing her appearance at will. Kind of what I try to do with makeup every day.

Don´t get me wrong, I like how I look, but being able to change it up occasionally would be fascinating.

I do feel though, that the superpower I´d need the most would be a different one: The ability to rejuvenate myself without downtime, to constantly keep going and tackle one task after the other.

The corresponding superhero? Superoxiddimutase, the antioxidant that keeps regenerating itself and tackles free oxygen radicals hour after hour after hour. And, as it happens, the main player in The Ordinary EUK 134 0,1%.

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA

This blog post contains affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

Sometimes a tiny letter can make a huge difference. Make you question things, for example. In cosmetic science, that letter is usually a “v”.

Why a “v” you ask?

And imagine how great it would have been had I said a “y” -Y a “y”?

Because “in vivo” sounds pretty similar to “in vitro”, but in terms of results there is a huge difference.

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA
The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA

See, many ingredients proove their claim on human cells. In the lab, in petri dishes, swimming in a special broth. Which is NOT the same as being attached to a moving human being, always on the run and with many other cofactors like sweat, spf and (other) sexy things (for the sake of the alliteration) that could impede penetration.

Because skin is actually designed to stop things from penetrating (as we have learned here), and we can´t switch that off on demand.

But why am I going on about the difference the “v” makes? Because when it comes to peptides, there are two different camps. The “It works” one and the one that will tell you that peptides are too big to penetrate the skin “in vivo” and thus are a waste of money.

And if you haven´t made up your mind yet, The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA will let you see for yourself without breaking the bank.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution – A long time coming

This blog post contains affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

I love acids for exfoliation.

I have oily, acne-prone skin.

The obvious solution? Using an acid specifically targeted at oily, acne-prone skin. A no-brainer, essentially.  Why do I even talk about it?

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution

Well, dear reader. Because this is what I used in the last months, no YEARS!

Alpha-H Liquid Gold (Review) – Glycolic Acid, pixi Glow Tonic (Review) – Glycolic Acid, Sunday Riley Good Genes (Review) – Lactic Acid, Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Brightening Toner (Review) – Glycolic Acid

See that? Yes, some of them may have had Salicylic Acid added as well, but the main acid? Never the one I actually should have looked for.

Time to get that right, so The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution was quickly added to my routine.

Boycotting brands – What is your take?

About a week ago, I published my first blog post on The Ordinary products (read here). Quite a few of the commenters told me they had either loved the product, but wouldn´t repurchase or that they had sent back all The Ordinary products they owned because they didn´t want to support the brand, or, more precisely the CEO Brandon Truaxe.

Boycotting brands like The Ordinary

Now for full disclosure, I made my order at the end of January, so before the “drama” started, but only get around to publishing the reviews now. Testing skincare takes time. But even if I hadn´t, would I have refrained from ordering The Ordinary if I had known?

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% – Big yellow taxi

This blogpost contains affiliate links. Please read disclaimer.

“Don’t it always seem to go. That you dont know what youve got. Till it’s gone

That is what Joni Mitchell sang in “Big Yellow Taxi”, and yes, you will probably need to google it and never really heard of the song (or her) before, but I like it and I am old and this is my blog and so I will continue to refer to lyrics from 1970.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

And it is what came to my mind after I started using The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% recently and was puzzled about how much it changed my skin.

If you are an old (ha!) time reader, you may remember that in many Empties post and in many a skincare routine, La Roche Posay Serozinc (here) featured heavily. Somehow I stopped using it late last year. No specific reason, I just had other mists that I deemed more appropriate for the season.

My t-zone got oiler after a few weeks, but I didn´t really make the connection.

Until I introduced The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% in my routine and could literally watch that change…
