Why I think you should still play video games

„Still?“ is the question I get asked most when I mention it.

„You still play video games?“

Yes.

Yes I do.

Meet my main character, Asharra, a warlock

I started at the tender age of 11, on my C 64 with 5,25„ floppy disks and classics like „Bubble Bobble“, briefly touched on the whole „Age of Empire“ series in LAN-parties with friends and then discovered the world of MMORPG, namely World of Warcraft.

Which just released it´s latest addon, „Battle for Azeroth“, on August 14th.

Now my raiding days are behind me, I just can´t keep up equipmentwise with work, kids and the blog, but that doesn´t mean I won´t immerse myself into the new content as much as possible in the upcoming weeks.

To mask this period of less blog activity I did of course prepare several blog posts, one of them on why I think you, as a beauty lover, should consider playing too!

How I plan to spend my nights

The benefits of playing video games are numerous and scientifically studied.

If you read up on the topic, you will learn that you are more likely to perform well as a surgeon if you trained playing video games, that you are more capable of making fast decisions and that you might even get a career boost from playing, as many of these games build soft skills like team work and leadership strategies.

All highly desirable, but why mention that on a beauty blog you ask?

Well, one of the lessons I learned is that playing as a more mature person can actually slow the aging process! Anti-aging – now we are on topic…

Not the visual one, although you could argue that the fact that they release a new addon in the midst of August significantly reduces the amount of UV-exposure I will get, but that of the brain.

Apparently so-called “brain games” involving problem-solving, memory, and puzzle components have been shown to have a positive benefit on older players. In one study, just 10 hours of play led to increased cognitive functioning in participants 50 and older—improvement that lasted for several years.

I strongly believe that a young and quick mind makes you a very attractive person, so I for one will try to get my recommended game time in. I might not yet be 50, but as always I think that prevention is key!
